Structure protection around Selma remains a top priority. Structure protection will continue as fire crews burn out and mop up around potentially affected structures and strengthen the containment line between the Klondike Fire and the communities of Selma, Wonder and Wilderville. Today, efforts will continue to focus on structures near the southeast corner of the Klondike Fire where it spotted across the Illinois River on Saturday night. The spot fire is established south of the river and firefighters are monitoring its progression. Crews will also be working to clear vegetation around communication sites on 8 Dollar Mountain. Work on western contingency line continues. Heavy equipment is being used to re-open firelines constructed during past fires and to tie together existing roads west of the Taylor Creek and Klondike Fires. Terrain driven upslope/downslope winds will occur with exposed areas having NW wind in the afternoon hours, shifting to NE overnight. The smoke will partially shade the area from the sun. Warm and dry weather continues through the week. Minimum relative humidity will be 20%. Max temperatures: Mid-90s in the valleys to mid-80s on the ridges.Yesterday’s Activities: Two spot fires, detected Saturday south of South Fork Indian Creek and south of Twin Valley Creek, prompted implementation of low intensity hand firing on the contingency line south of the fire. Excavators with a masticator attachment completed clearing the brush on the north side of the fire along Forest Road 25. Crews also completed brushing around the Hamma Hamma Cabin to help protect it. With 300 residential and commercial structures threatened, a structure-protection team stayed on scene along the fire’s eastern edge in Entiat River Valley. No structures have been damaged or destroyed in this fire. “Our crews accomplished a lot Monday and our priority is to hold and secure these areas and keep the fire away from Ardenvoir,” says Deputy Incident Commander Carlton Joseph.
