Weather: Morning SW winds are predicted to switch to N-NW by afternoon, however winds may fluctuate to northeasterly from time to time. 10-15 mph winds are predicted this afternoon with evening gusts of 20-25 mph on the ridges. Humidity today will be 22-30% with overnight recovery rising to 45-50% by the early morning hours. Another warming and drying pattern, along with lighter winds is forecasted for Sunday through Tuesday. Max temps: Upper 80s in the valleys to lower 80s on the ridges. CRITICAL COUGAR CREEK UPDATE INCREASED EVACUATION LEVELS AND ONE NEW EVACUATION AREA ADDED Chelan County Emergency Management has raised existing evacuation levels at 7:30 pm tonight, Friday, August 10, 2018. The Entiat River Road from Ardenvoir north to the end of the road (approximately to milepost 25) and Mad River Road are now Level 3, which means "leave immediately." The Entiat River Road from Crum Canyon (including Crum Canyon Road) up to the southern boundary of Ardenvoir is now elevated to Level 2, which means "prepare to leave at a moment's notice."A new Level 1 Evacuation Notice was issued for the Entiat River Road from US 97A to Crum Canyon, which means "time to prepare." Cougar Creek, Lost, Bannock Lakes, and Whitepine Fires Saturday, August 11, 2018 Cougar Creek Fire Acreage: 18,376 (5,948-acre increase) Containment: 5 percent Personnel: 933 Last evening forecasted winds out of the northwest arrived, pushing fire toward the southeast, down Miner's Ridge, Hornet Creek and into the Mad River drainage. Wind-driven fire also moved through McKenzie Saddle with single-tree torching visible. Eastern lines on the Cougar Fire were tested, and in some areas, spot fires occurred, which are being managed today. Additional resources were acquired through State Mobilization for the Cougar Creek fire and activated last evening at 6:15 P.M. to assist the structure protection group in the Entiat River Valley. Summary: Forty one different fire agencies are providing structure protection under the coordination of the Oregon Office of the State Fire Marshal. These firefighters have checked 1018 structures and prepared 398 homes to better withstand wildfire conditions. Those preparations were tested overnight with increased fire activity and no homes were lost. Although fire weather will be slightly moderated today, relative humidity levels remain well below the critical threshold. The fire area has seen minimal moisture since May and is officially in a moderate drought condition. Fuel conditions remain conducive to active fire behavior. When the smoke inversion breaks mid-day, there will be a noticeable increase in fire behavior. Firefighters hear a single, unified message from Agency Representatives. Today temperatures will drop with winds gusting as high as 20 mph out of the north, becoming northeast. Moderate fire weather conditions are expected today. A noticeable smoke column was present Friday afternoon on the Klondike Fire, as the fire became more active. As predicted on Friday, winds out of the southwest and lifted the smoke cap increasing fire activity. This caused the fire to consume fuels between the Klondike Fire and recent days firing operations east southeast of the fire. This strengthened the margin between the Klondike Fire and the communities of Selma, Wonder and Wilderville to the east . Smoke inversions will continue to affect the region. Increased traffic in the Galice area will continue to present safety concerns for firefighting crews along areas roads....

A Red Flag Warning is in effect until 8 p.m. YESTERDAY: Interior areas of the fire continued to show some pockets of heat and produce smoke. Fire managers ensured these areas within containment lines were patrolled and monitored. Firefighters continued to mop up along the fire perimeter. This process is time consuming and thorough, as embers and heat can be hidden for days. Additionally, suppression repair worked on dozer lines and fences outside of containment lines that were damaged during suppression activities. The structure protection assessments were completed in areas around and ahead of the fire. Night operations have ceased, with the exception of the National Guard providing presence and patrol. Resources have started to be released from the incident due to the increase in containment. An objective of incident management is to fit the size of the organization to the need of the fire. Most of the growth was limited to the west side of the fire into the Lake Chelan - Sawtooth Wilderness, with minor growth near Gilbert Mountain and the area north of Poplar Flat Campground.
