South Valley Fire Daily Update - August 9 (South Valley Fire Wildfire)
Dufur, OR – Current Status: Last night was the final night shift on this incident. These crews have worked long and hard and have an excellent safety record of no injuries. They will get some much needed rest today and be rolled over into the next day shift plan.Today, crews will focus on meeting the District’s mop-up standards and patrol the fire perimeter and unburned islands. All the hard work putting out this fire will be tested this week by the predicted high temperatures and gusty winds. Sufficient re-sources will remain assigned to the fire to patrol and handle any problems that may arise. Other resources will begin the demobilization process to get much needed rest.Weather Forecast: Red Flag Warnings are in effect for Thursday for hot, dry and unstable conditions. Maple Fire Daily Update 08-09-18 (Maple Fire Wildfire)
Hamma Hamma, WA – The Maple fire is located 23 miles North of Shelton, WA, above the community of Hamma Hamma. The fire is burning in steep terrain on the Jefferson Ridge Line and North of Jefferson Creek. Elk Lake trail runs through the middle of the fire. The Maple fire has burned 810 acres, is 5 percent contained and has roughly 163 personnel currently working the fire. Crews and equipment ordered earlier in the week are now beginning to arrive. We expect to have around 300 personnel on the fire by tomorrow. We are also expecting more equipment. Our priorities are to keep the fire from spreading further East, North and South. Public Meeting: We have a public meeting scheduled for Friday, August 10, 2018 at 7:00 pm. The meeting will be held at the Hamma Hamma fire station, 34571 N US Hwy 101, Lilliwaup, WA 98555. Summary: After an active day of fire on Tuesday, firefighters made good progress on Wednesday. As hotter and drier weather moves into the region today, firefighters are expecting more active fire behavior in the afternoon. Community Meetings: Please note the change in venues for the Shady Cove Public Meeting. To facilitate more guests, the Shady Cove Meeting will be held at Shady Cove School, 37 Schoolhouse Lane. Containment is defined as the status of a wildfire suppression action signifying that a control line has been completed around the fire, as well as any associated spot fires, which can reasonably be expected to stop the fire’s spread. Taylor Creek and Klondike Daily Update - Aug 8th (Taylor Creek Fire Wildfire)
Taylor Creek Fire Acreage: 41,977 Containment: 38%Klondike Fire Acreage: 35,072 Containment: 15%Galice Road closure lifted at 5:00 pm on August 7, 2018, restoring access to local businesses and boat ramps. Hard work and diligence of crews working the fire line in this area allowed the road to open to all traffic and the river to all recreation. Crews from the Oregon Fire Marshal’s office continue to patrol the area and protect structures. Firefighters continue to attack the Taylor Creek and Klondike fires. Wherever rollout occurs firefighters use safe tactics to attack and contain the fire. Patrolling crews quickly respond to these situations. Construction of the contingency lines steadily progresses. Crews working the Taylor Creek fire made significant progress completing the Peavine Road contingency line. Firefighters are continuing to monitor the fireline along Galice Road.
