FIRE AREA EMERGENCY CLOSURE FREMONT-WINEMA NATIONAL FOREST Order Number 06-02-03-18-02 Pursuant to Title 36, Code of Federal Regulations §261.50 (a) and (b), the following act is prohibited on National Forest System lands and roads within the following described area on the Paisley, Silver Lake and Bly Ranger Districts, Fremont-Winema National Forest, as described in attached Exhibit A. Level 3 Evacuation in place along Twisp River Road (Crescent Mountain Fire Wildfire)

A level 3 Evacuation has been issued for persons living on West Buttermilk Creek Road and Twisp River Road all west of the Buttermilk Creek intersection. Persons should evacuate NOW, do not wait. Evacuate east towards Twisp. The Crescent Mountain Fire is currently on Snowshoe Ridge advancing down drainage towards Eagle Creek. The Red Cross will be setting up a shelter at the Methow Valley Community Center, for persons needing a place to stay. LEVEL 3 EVACUATION West Buttermilk Creek Road and Twisp River Road all west of the Buttermilk Creek Intersection with Twisp River Road. For more information on the Crescent Mtn Fire, persons may call the Incident management team at (480)744-9318 or call Okanogan County Emergency Management at 509-422-7206.

There will be a community fire information meeting today at 6:00 p.m. at the Grange on 2nd Street in Happy Camp. Weather: Continued hot, dry, and sunny due to high pressure over the fire area. This high pressure will create a stronger inversion leading to increased smoke in the valleys and ridges through the daylight hours. Morning calm winds will shift to 3 to 6 mph out of the southwest to northwest later in the day, with stronger 10 mph upslope winds due to afternoon heating. Poor humidity recovery on the ridges last night will lead to daytime relative humidity in the twenties to teens. Max temperatures: 90-100 in the valleys and upper 80s on the ridges. Yesterday’s Activities: Patrol, mop up, and backhaul of equipment continued on the north half of the fire. This area of the fire contains most of the established containment lines. Republic, WA – Firefighters will be continuing to remove the remaining snags and hazard trees around the fire perimeter today. Crews will work to improve the hose lay around the main fire as they transition into mop-up operations. The three spot fires to the southeast of the main fire have been lined and are no longer a threat to spread. The Kelly Mountain Fire started at approximately 11:00am on August 11th and was a part of eleven lightning and storm related fires reported in the Republic/Curlew/Toroda area. Local resources from US Forest Service, Washington State Department of Natural Resources along with private contractors responded to the Kelly Mountain fire that grew rapidly due to strong winds and extremely dry conditions. The fire is located south of Kelly Mountain, approximately 12 miles north of Republic. There are no structures or residences threatened at this time. A strengthening pressure gradient will bring breezy winds at ridge tops, down to the valley in the afternoon. Warm and dry conditions continue today. Moderate to extreme fire behavior is expected on local wildfires. Smoke Light winds should bring relief today around Yakima, Ellensburg, Moses Lake, Cle Elum, and Leavenworth. All other areas may see slight improvement this morning, with generally declining air quality in the afternoon to evening hours. Expect air quality conditions to decline over the weekend. Other Expect a well deserved break from British Columbia wildfire smoke that has blanketed the forecast area since Monday. Acreage: 34,482 Containment: 35 percent Personnel: 1,119 Cougar Creek Fire: Increased winds Thursday pushed fire smoke out of Leavenworth and parts of the Entiat River Valley. The winds also aided firefighters who conducted low intensity burnout operations along the southern perimeter from Sugarloaf Lookout to Gold Ridge. Winds will increase Friday with a Red Flag Warning across the fire area. Humidity continues to be critically low. Friday’s focus is to hold the containment lines in the Entiat River Valley and reinforce protection on the southern perimeter. Weather permitting, helicopters will assist firefighters on the ground in the Sugarloaf Lookout area where they will work to gain more depth of the containment line; and above Grandma Creek, crews will work to hold fire in the steep and rocky terrain. Gusts up to 20mph in aligned valleys are forecasted for this afternoon. In the southeast part of the Klondike fire, winds will push fire away from people and homes east of Route 199 and toward Babyfoot Road. Firefighters are in place to protect and hold the fireline and continue to protect structures in the area. Fire will become more active with increased flame lengths, rates of spread and potential for spotting. Smoke from the Klondike fire will be blown to the southwest, but winds may bring smoke from other fires in the state to the Grants Pass and Selma areas. Crews hold southeastern Klondike Fire amid increased fire activity. The fire was active along the Illinois River Rd where crews continue to defend homes. Daily Update - August 17, 2018 (Miles Fire Wildfire)

The number of fires under the direction of the Northern Rockies and Oregon Department of Forestry incident management teams is beginning to dwindle. With the Snow Shoe Fire declared fully contained yesterday, suppression resources will narrow their focus to the remaining two fires, Miles and Columbus. The final acreage for the Snow Shoe Fire stands at 3,816 acres. Fire suppression repair work and salvage logging operations will continue on Snow Shoe. Firefighters continue to increase containment on both of the remaining fires. The northwest flank of the Miles Fire was the most active yesterday in the Elkhorn Peak area with increased burning taking place well within control lines. With that portion of the fire burning in steep, rugged terrain, fire operations personnel continue to let the fire slowly work its way toward established control lines.
