WHITMORE FIRE UPDATE NORTHWEST INCIDENT MANAGEMENT TEAM 12 Incident Commander: Bobby Shindelar August 7, 2021   The Whitmore fire is burning on the Colville Reservation south of Omak Lake and west of Nespelem, WA. NW Incident Management Team 12 is managing the response to the fire from the Nespelem Community Center. The Community Center is closed to all but essential personnel to help ensure the health and safety of firefighters and community members.   Operations Yesterday afternoon, the Whitmore and Hamilton fires merged, creating one larger fire. This incident is now being managed solely as the Whitmore Fire. Firefighters focused on protecting structures along the northwest perimeter of the fire near Kartar Valley Road, as well as on structures south of Columbia River Road. In the southwest portion of the fire, resources secured the Goose Flats area with dozer line and burnout operations. On the western flank, firefighters are continuing to do suppression repair work and backhauling extra supplies. Inchelium, Wa. – Firefighters made good progress on Friday, continuing to contain fire starts from Wednesday’s lightning and reinforcing lines on the northeast flank in advance of forecasted winds. Much of the western flank and the southern flank have been mopped-up to thirty feet inside the fire line and the line has held for several days. Crews will continue this work today, extending and connecting hand lines and dozer lines on the west and east sides of the fire. Work progresses on the fuel break along Hall Creek Rd. to create a contingency fire line to the northeast of the fire. A large cold front is moving in on Saturday evening into Sunday, which will rapidly change the wind direction from SW to NW and increase wind speed. While there may be some showers, wetting rains are not expected. This front will also bring cooler temperatures on Sunday. Cub Creek 2 Smoke Outlook for August 7 (Cub Creek 2 Fire Wildfire)

Smoke Air quality has improved significantly and undoubtedly residents of the area are breathing a sigh of relief. The fires are not extinguished yet though so smoke will remain a factor at times in the Methow Valley. The Okanogan Valley area may be impacted by some of the new fires burning in the area of Conconully and Loomis. The growth on these fires is a big uncertainty for possible smoke impacts to the area. Community Meeting: A community meeting will be held Sunday August 8 at 5PM at Cooper’s General Store in Ardenvoir. Fire managers and local officials will provide up to date information on the fire and be available to answer your questions. Yesterday: Friday afternoons wind led to very active fire behavior and pushed the fire to the NE; the fire spotted across the northern containment line and continued to run to the NE. During the run, fire fighter escape routes were threatened. All resources were ordered off the line until the threat had passed and escape routes were determined to be safe.  Resources then established new containment lines consisting of dozer line, hose lays and port-a-tanks to check the NE spread of the fire.  Air support came from 2 helicopters, 2 scoopers, 2 fire bosses and 1 air attack.    Cedar Creek and Delancy Fires Daily Update August 7, 2021   Winthrop, WA — The Cedar Creek and Delancy Fires are burning on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest and public and private lands within Okanogan County. These fires are being managed by Great Basin Incident Management Team 1.   The Okanogan County Office of Emergency Management adjusted evacuation levels for communities bordering the Cedar Creek Fire; most were reduced. WINDY PASS FIRE UPDATE             Date:  Saturday, August 7, 2021 – 07:00 a.m. Contact:  Public Information Officer Hannah Blackstock, 509-800-7177   Windy Pass Fire Acres: 119 Containment: 15%  Personnel: 86 Closures: Pending   Operations Yesterday: Minimal fire growth occurred due to a low cloud layer, light precipitation, and cool temperatures. Firefighters began hand line construction along the west side of the fire down to the North Fork Taneum Trail #1377. Line improvement continued along Trail #1377 to the south of the fire. Fire personnel identified potential areas to construct effective containment line around the north and east sides of the fire.   8/7 Smoke Outlook   Fire Cooler temperatures and higher humidity will keep the fires in the Methow Valley fairly quiet today. The main area of burning in the Cedar Creek fire is currently in the Sheep Creek/Bridge Creek area. The main burning in the Cub Creek 2 fire is in the northern Lake Creek, and west of Chewuch river area. Cedar Creek is now 52,859 acres (+26) and 25% contained. Cub Creek 2 is 61,391 acres (+365) and 24% contained. Delancy remains at 223 acres.   Smoke Air quality has improved significantly and undoubtedly residents of the area are breathing a sigh of relief. Summary: Southeast WA Type 3 Incident Management Team assumed command of the Moe Canyon fire at 6:00AM August 05, 2021. The fire was reported at 6PM August 03. Initial attack was carried out by crews from WA DNR and USFS supported by aircraft. The fire is burning in steep, rugged terrain 10 miles NW of Entiat WA. Today: Line progress continued today along the northern perimeter of the fire. Hose lays were established on the northwestern perimeter while hand crews continued to improve containment line on the northeastern edge. Dozers also worked on the northeaster perimeter. To the south of the fire, dozers were successful in constructing a contingency line parallel to and just south of the Chief Joseph-Monroe transmission lines on Roaring Ridge. As expected, winds picked up in the early afternoon leading to more aggressive fire behavior. Weather: Cooler temperatures are forecast for Saturday with the highs expected to be in the mid-70’s. News Release  - August 6th, 2021 Tonasket, WA:  The Walker Creek Fire started on August 3rd at approximately 3:22pm.  It is located approximately 22 miles east of Tonasket and 1.5 miles southeast of Bonaparte Lake.  Yesterday, crews continued to strengthen dozer lines and made direct line where possible.  The fire spotted over the fire line on the northern section of the fire.  Aerial support through retardant drops and helicopter bucket water drops were utilized to contain the spot, allowing crews to work on constructing a new dozer line and hand line where necessary.  A spot fire also occurred on the southern section of the fire with crews and a dozer working on containing that section of the fire with a new line.  The Spur fire has burned across USFS 0100 and it backing towards Bonaparte Lake, despite several retardant drops along the fire line.  Rapid spread and spotting from Spur Fire into this morning has caused a spot fire over the Bonaparte Lake Road.  Spur fire has...

Final Fire Update 8/6/21 (Molybdenite Wildfire)

  News Release August 6, 2021 Cusik, WA - The Molybdenite Fire is located about 9 miles Southeast of Ione, WA. It started on Saturday, July 31st and has burned 55 acres of forested land.    Six hand crews and eight engines continued to work on mop up operations and overall fire containment has increased to 70%. One crew remains out on initial attack to another fire starts in the area to support local jurisdictions.   This evening at 18:00 the fire will transition from the type 3 incident management team to local jurisdiction type 4 team. The resources that continue to remain working this fire will move base camp to Sullivan Lake Ranger Station from the Kalispel Tribe Pow Wow grounds.
