Cedar Creek and Delancy Fires Daily Update August 9, 2021 Winthrop, WA — The Cedar Creek and Delancy Fires are burning on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest and public and private lands within Okanogan County. These fires are being managed by Great Basin Incident Management Team 1. Fire Information Line: Cedar Creek and Delancy Fires: 509-557-0740 (Staffed 8:00 am to 8:00 pm daily) Fire Weather: After a cool start Monday, temperatures will rise quickly by Monday afternoon. This will also bring much lower humidity levels to the region. Skies will remain mostly clear, with some fair cumulus along higher mountain peaks. Light and variable winds in the morning will gradually turn back to the northwest during the afternoon, with some higher gusts along aligned valleys in the evening. WHITMORE FIRE UPDATENORTHWEST INCIDENT MANAGEMENT TEAM 12Incident Commander: Bobby Shindelar August 9, 2021The Whitmore Fire is located on the Colville Reservation south of Omak Lake and west of Nespelem, WA. The Incident Command Post at Nespelem Community Center is closed to all but essential personnel to help ensure the health and safety of firefighters and community members.Operations Yesterday, fire fighters took advantage of cooler temperatures, higher moisture levels, and less active fire behavior to secure stretches of fireline. The southwest to southeast borders of the fire along Columbia River Road experienced no fire spread and firefighters conducted mop-up operations successfully. Today, resources will be patrolling that area. Along the northern portion of the fire, including Kartar Creek Road, aircraft assisted crews in securing the perimeter. Inchelium, Wa. – The cold front that moved into the area yesterday brought measurable rain to the Summit Trail Fire, Upper Lime Creek Fire, and Chuweah Creek Fires. This moisture gives firefighters the opportunity to build direct fire line, while fire behavior is still moderate. Even though this moisture is helpful, the fire is not yet out. A drying trend will start today and continue with warmer temperatures throughout the week which will increase fire activity.Firefighters will hit the fire hard today with more direct attack in areas where possible. They will continue to work to respond to fire starts from last Wednesday’s lightning storm and reinforce lines on the northeast flank of the Summit Trail Fire. Most of the western and the southern sides are mopped-up inside the fire line and that line has held for several days. Estimated size: 161 acres Containment: 60% Today: Fallers will continue removing snags that have the potential to fall across containment lines. Hand and engine crews will mitigate roll out hazards, mop up and rehab lines. Hoses, pumps, porta-tanks and other equipment that is no longer needed will be hauled to fire camp where it will be prepped for deployment to future fires. Firefighters searched areas east of the fire that had initially been included in the fire footprint and found one spot fire, which was immediately lined and mopped up. Firefighters connected line around the fire. Progress was made on the 4510 and 3300 Roads to improve emergency access and create a contingency line. Firefighters overnighted at two spike camps close to the fire to minimize travel time. 8/9 Smoke Outlook Fire Rain fell on the fires yesterday and temperatures will remain cool this morning but warming begins this afternoon and temperatures will continue to rise the rest of the week. Fire activity will be minimal today with no perimeter growth expected. Cedar Creek is 52,859 acres (+0) and 32% contained. Cub Creek 2 is 62,368 acres and 24% contained, Muckamuck is 1,935 acres and 0% contained. Delancy remains at 223 acres. The Cub Creek 2 team has taken on management of the Muckamuck fire. Smoke Good air quality throughout the forecast area yesterday! Did you get out and enjoy the clean air? Expect another day of mostly good conditions although with hot and dry weather expected this week, the clear air may not last much longer. Bulldog & Mack Mountain Update 8-9-21 (Bulldog Mountain Wildfire)
Bulldog Mountain Fire: Yesterday the fire did not grow significantly due to heavy rain that fell throughout the day. This gave firefighters the chance to work close to the fire’s edge in areas that were safe to do so. With limited resources on the ground, work continued to gain better access to areas to the east of the fire. Heavy equipment was moved in and assisted with fire line and road construction. Today much of the same type of work performed yesterday will continue. As more resources arrive on the incident more progress will be made to establish containment lines as well as direct fire attack operations where appropriate. There are 83 personnel assigned to the incident. There have been no injuries or structures lost. The Bulldog Mountain Fire started August 5. 2021, located 20 miles north of Kettle Falls. EVACUATION LEVELS UPDATE: All evacuation orders that were previously at a Level 3 have now been reduced to a Level 2 (Get Set). Today on the fireline, aircraft, dozers, and crews focused on slowing the spread of the fire towards SR155. Cooler temperatures and increased moisture levels aided their efforts. Firefighters also worked on improving containment lines and mopping along the southwest and southeast perimeters of the fire, including Columbia River Road. Tonight, crews will continue working to secure the northwest perimeter of the fire, conducting burnout operations to reduce potential for future fire spread. Tomorrow, additional aircraft and resources will be engaged in halting the spread of the fire. More resources have been assigned specifically for structure protection along SR155. Community Meeting: Todays community meeting was attended by approximately 50 residents of the Entiat Valley. Information was shared on suppression activity that has taken place, the status of the fire and the plan for the coming days.Today: The focus today was to shore up containment lines. Fallers removed snags (snagging) that posed the threat of falling outside of the perimeter while hand crews and engines mopped up and installed water bars on containment lines to prevent erosion. The reduction in acres is due to more accurate mapping. Tomorrow: Continue snagging and mop up. Begin back hauling equipment, (hose, pumps, porta tanks) no longer necessary for suppression. Walker Creek Fire Update 8/8/21 (Walker Creek Fire Wildfire)
Today, the management of the Walker Fire will transition from Tom Merritt’s Northeast Washington Type 3 Team 1 to Jay Winfield’s Northern Rockies Type 2 Team 6. Along with the Walker Fire, Team 6 will manage both the Spur and Chickadee Fires. All of these fires started on August 3rd, when a dry lightning storm peppered the region, starting numerous fires which quickly overwhelmed local resources. Smoke from these fires, and others burning regionally, have resulted in smoke lingering over the communities of Omak, Tonasket and Loomis for the past few days. The recent cold front has lightened inversion of smoke in the valley for the end of the weekend, but a high pressure will be moving in Monday and smoke will remain throughout the week. Firefighters are taking advantage of the cooler temperatures with higher relative humidity to strengthen and expand containment lines. News Release August 8, 2021 Orient, WA - The Nine Mine Fire is located 4.5 miles south / southeast from Laurier, WA. This lighting caused fire started on Wednesday, August 4th and has burned approximately 300 acres of forested land. Northeast Washington Incident Management Team 3 was dispatched August 7th to assist the initial suppression efforts by Joint Fire Protection District 3-8 (JFPD3-8), and Washington State Department of Natural Resources. Inchelium, Wa. – Firefighters continue their work to contain fire starts from Wednesday’s lightning storm and reinforce lines on the northeast flank of the Summit Trail Fire. Much of the western and the southern flank are mopped-up inside the fire line and the line has held for several days. Two new fires that started on the Colville Reservation, the Seventeen Mile and the Upper Lime Creek, are drawing resources from the Summit Trail Fire. Resources are being reallocated from sections in mop-up and patrol status. This ensures we can assist the other fires while still supporting critical areas on the eastern flank of the Summit Trail Fire. NW Team 7 assumed command of the Upper Lime Creek Fire at 6:00 a.m. today. The Upper Lime Creek Fire was estimated at 162 acres yesterday. Fire managers and local officials will provide up to date information on the fire and be available to answer your questions. Today: The fire remained quiet last night despite gusty wind. The fire is now completely lined; the focus today will be strengthening lines by removing snags, securing debris that could roll out and ignite new fires outside of the lines and mopping up.
