Muckamuck Fire Activity More Visible Today (Muckamuck Wildfire)
Residents of Conconully are likely seeing an increase in smoke today as clear, dry air is helping increase the activity on the #MuckamuckFire.We anticipated the increased fire activity as warmer, drier weather was predicted and we've been preparing for it. Orient, WA - The Nine Mine Fire is located 4.5 miles south / southeast from Laurier, WA. This lightning caused fire started on Wednesday, August 4th and has burned approximately 139 acres of forested land. Evacuations: As of 1:00 pm on Sunday August 8th the evacuation level has been reduced to level 1. Level 1 is Ready, in the Ready, Set, Go, all hazards evacuation system. Ready means get prepared, changing fire conditions can change evacuation levels and you may need to leave your home. This level 1 notice is for homes on Imperial Way and Sand Creek Rd. Road Closures: Nine Mine Rd. has been reopened to traffic. Use caution if driving this road and watch for fire traffic. Inchelium, WA – On the Summit Trail Fire, firefighters will continue to mop up inside the fire line on the western and southern flanks and anticipate completing direct line along the eastern flank of the fire within the next few days.Warmer temperatures will continue throughout the week, drying out fuels and increasing fire activity. A burnout operation conducted yesterday on the Summit Trail Fire focused on the northeast and eastern flanks. The eastern flank burnout was called off due to the live fuels in the area being too green to burn. The burnout on the northeast flank burned about 30 acres. All three fires encompass 702 personnel. North and South Twin Lakes are now open for boating activities. Crews will continue to extend and connect hand lines, dozer lines, and secondary lines on the east side of the Summit Trail Fire. WHITMORE FIRE UPDATENORTHWEST INCIDENT MANAGEMENT TEAM 12Incident Commander: Bobby Shindelar August 11, 2021The Whitmore Fire is located on the Colville Reservation south of Omak Lake and west of Nespelem, WA. The Incident Command Post at Nespelem Community Center is closed to all but essential personnel to help ensure the health and safety of community members and firefighters.Operations Yesterday, the western and southern flanks of the fire were in patrol status. Fire resources constructed direct control lines on the north and east sides of the fire, using dozers and handline as well as utilizing existing roads. Firing operations to secure the fire’s edge along these control lines were successful yesterday and into yesterday evening. These efforts will continue today and tonight. Firefighters are mopping up along the western flank. Chippers are working along Forest Road 51 to restore a more natural appearance to roads where brush and small trees have been removed. These fires are being managed by Great Basin Incident Management Team 1. Fire Information Line: Cedar Creek and Delancy Fires: 509-557-0740 (8:00 am to 8:00 pm daily) Fire Weather: Temperatures continue to rise on Wednesday, with lower elevations approaching 100 degrees. Humidity levels will decrease below 20 percent in the afternoon. Cloud cover will be limited to higher cirrus. Winds will start light from the southwest, switching to northwest, with some gusts around 15 miles per hour down the Methow Valley late afternoon. A brief push of north-northeast winds will cross the region late Wednesday night into Thursday morning, with some aligning slopes receiving gusts above 20 miles per hour after 3 pm. Bulldog Mountain Fire: Yesterday additional resources continued to arrive on the fire line and progress was made scouting control line possibilities. Crews utilized helicopters to keep the fire growth minimal as firefighters on the ground continued to establish indirect and contingency containment lines. Fire crews worked near the fire in a few areas constructing direct fire line. Additional heavy equipment arrived and was deployed to assist in these efforts. Today much of the same type of work performed yesterday will continue. Motorists traveling on the Boulder Hwy should be vigilant and watch for heavy equipment and firefighters turning off and onto the roadway. There are 156 personnel assigned to the incident. 8/11 Smoke Outlook Special Statement The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for the area extending through Saturday. Fire Temperatures will reach the mid 90's to low 100's today. Fire activity will increase this afternoon as temperatures increase and burning within the control lines is expected. Cedar Creek is 52,889 acres (+30) and 35% contained. Cub Creek 2 is 62,489 acres (+0) and 54% contained, Muckamuck is 1,179 acres (+116) and 0% contained. Delancy remains at 223 acres. Smoke Air quality will remain mostly good from the Methow Valley down to Wenatchee although smoke will accumulate at times in the Methow Valley when temperatures cool overnight and smoke flows down valleys. Air quality could reach Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups at times. When weather conditions were favorable, firing operations were completed for the interior of the primary line. While fire is a natural part of the landscape, the post-fire effects – whether from the flames themselves or the efforts needed to safely suppress it – can be detrimental if left unattended. Suppression repair and restoration are distinctly separate parts of an intricate process that lays the groundwork for the forest ecosystem to begin its regrowth. “Restoration is a long-term project while suppression repair is fixing the immediate damage – and I don’t even want to call it damage because it’s what is needed to be done – repair is fixing what was done in order to suppress the fire quickly,” said Eireann Pederson, Silviculturist for the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest’s Methow Valley Ranger District. “We will work to repair handlines and dozer lines by planting grass seed, installing water bars, pulling berms amongst other things, then we’ll talk about restoration.
