Firefighters are proceeding methodically with burning operations on the north edge of the fire, applying low intensity fire to the landscape in a slow and controlled manner. In sections where the main fire is approaching control lines and burnout operations are not yet complete, helicopters are dropping water to slow forward progression. Current Situation: Heavy equipment continues to repair dozer lines while hand crews continue to repair handlines. Mop up will be focused along the campgrounds as well as around Conconully. Air resources are available as needed. Weather: Temperatures will warm slightly as the valleys are anticipated to reach the low to mid 80s and 60s in the higher terrain. Size: 17,260 acres Total Personnel: 451 Containment: 40% Cause: Under investigation Yesterday: Fixed wing scoopers and helicopters were used extensively, dropping water to delay fire movement to the west and south. Delaying the fire's progression gives firefighters additional time needed to secure and improve containment lines. Helicopters were also used for aerial ignition, adding depth to previously burned containment lines near Slide Peak; and working in conjunction with firefighters hand lighting along the containment line from Crescent Hill to Junior Spike late in the day. Engines and crews continued mop-up and patrol from Twenty-five Mile Creek State Park to Chesapeake Saddle to better secure containment lines. To the south, firefighters sought and extinguished areas of heat, improving fire lines around Slide Ridge. Schneider Springs Evening Update September 5, 2021Warming and drying conditions have contributed to an increase in fire activity on the northeast and northern sections of the fire today. Due to the increased fire activity in the Lost Creek and Gold Creek area, firefighters are continuing firing operations above the Lost Creek area this evening to prevent the fire’s spread toward the homes in that area. The firing operation occurring tonight is a continuation of building control features that began several days ago and will tie into existing lines and natural barriers.Firefighters, engines, and helicopters are working in coordination to conduct these operations and monitor and patrol for any spot fires outside of containment lines. Yesterday: Active burning continued in the northwest corner of the fire, consuming pockets and islands of unburned vegetation south and east of Junior Point and Crescent Hill, well within containment lines. Light winds allowed firefighters to hand light along containment lines. Engines and crews mopped up to better secure containment lines and patrolled from Twenty-five Mile Creek State Park to Chesapeake Saddle. To the south, firefighters secured and mopped up to improve the fire lines around Slide Ridge. Heavy equipment and fire crews relocated a section of containment line from a mid-slope road up to old dozer lines on a ridge top near Stormy Mountain.
