Muckamuck Fire update 9/12/2021 (Muckamuck Wildfire)

September 12, 2021 - 10:11am
Conconully, WA: Yesterday crews worked to secure containment lines, grid for hot spots, complete repair work on campgrounds, and backhauling equipment. Division Charlie (north portion of the fire) will stay focused today on securing perimeter lines, backhauling equipment, and gridding the area for hot spots. Division Xray (northeast portion of the fire) will grid for additional hot spots, secure perimeter lines, backhaul equipment, and look for additional repair work that needs done. Division Foxtrot (south end of the fire) has completed their objectives and is now in full patrol status. Turn back standards in the areas that are secured are now in full swing. Repair standards include: chipping and disbursing of large concentrations of unburned fuels created during suppression, identify and inventory fences, and any other damages that were created by suppression efforts. They will remove garbage, litter, and flagging. The only flagging that will remain in place are in hazard areas....

Twenty-five Mile Fire Update - September 12 (Twentyfive Mile Wildfire)

September 12, 2021 - 9:26am
Size: 21,130 acres   Total Personnel: 397 Containment: 41%   Location: 12 miles NW of Chelan, WA Cause: Under investigation   Weather and Fire Behavior: Yesterday the fire made short upslope runs and burned actively through an island of unburned vegetation north of Stormy Mountain. While the fire did not threaten containment lines yesterday, the activity seen is an indicator that large fuels remain very dry and will continue to burn despite recent precipitation. Today will be partly to mostly sunny with seasonable temperatures. The afternoon will bring winds from the west or southwest with gusts to 20 mph on ridge tops. Although relative humidity will be lower than yesterday, humidity levels are still elevated and will delay drying in the grasses and other fine fuels. Yesterday: Crews completed most of the work needed to break down and remove the hoses, pumps, and other equipment around homes in the Lake Chelan corridor from south of Hollywood Beach...

Rain brings new hazards to the Summit Trail Fire (Summit Trail Wildfire)

September 12, 2021 - 9:20am
September 12, 2021  Daily Update Acres: 49,551 acres Start Date: July 12, 2021 Cause: Lightning Containment: 64% Total personnel: 681 Location: 17 miles west of Inchelium Fuels: Timber (litter and grass understory), light logging slash  Highlights: Although recent rainstorms helped to dampen fire activity on the Summit Trail Fire, the additional moisture also created several new hazards, including muddy roads and slick hillsides. As water infiltrates and softens the soil, tree root systems weakened by fire become increasingly vulnerable to falling over as multi-directional winds push through the canopies. To minimize exposure to these hazards, crews are concentrating on backhauling nearly one hundred miles of hose lines, supplies, and equipment from control lines where road conditions are favorable. Operations: Yesterday, dangerous road conditions prevented crews from accessing the northwestern portion of the fire area. As an alternative, crews focused on pulling several miles of...

September 12, 2021 Walker Creek Fire Daily Update (Walker Creek Fire Wildfire)

September 12, 2021 - 7:53am
Tonasket, WA:  Yesterday, crews assessed the fire line after the rains and made progress in containing the remaining line in the area of Bunch and Fox road (south of USFS 030 road – Virginia Lilly area).  Crews will continue to patrol this area for any remaining fuels (stump holes or woody debris) that continue to burn.  Crews continue to evaluate and work on containment of lines on the northwest flank of Bonaparte Mountain.  The peat bog along Bonaparte Lake Road continue to burn and smolder, which can cause heavy smoke in the morning and evening hours.  This can drastically reduce visibility and it is recommended that alternate routes or residence avoid the area during these periods.  Today, crews will continue to monitor and patrol lines throughout the day.  Repair crews are continuing to map almost 80 miles of suppression dozer line for repair throughout the fire.  Rehabilitation work is primarily along dozer lines that can impact water resources or on steep slopes, to...

Actualización del Incendio Schneider Springs 11 de Septiembre de 2021 (Schneider Springs Wildfire)

September 11, 2021 - 1:34pm

Schneider Springs Fire Update September 11, 2021 (Schneider Springs Wildfire)

September 11, 2021 - 1:20pm
Yesterday: Moderate precipitation fell across the fire, with a tenth to two-tenths of an inch measured in some areas. The moisture helped slow fire progression and behavior, allowing firefighters to continue suppression efforts in key focus areas. The spot fire along American Ridge slowed significantly, with minimal growth in that area. Structure protection continued along the Highway 410 corridor, as a precautionary measure should the fire continue to spread in that direction. Crews and heavy equipment worked to reduce vegetation along Forest Road (FR) 1709 after several days of work in this area to provide a safe place for firefighters to conduct firing operations in the days ahead. Firing operations were halted yesterday off FR 1706 due to the rain and unfavorable burning conditions. Crews continued to work to secure line and slow fire spread around Edgar Rock. Along the southern edges of the fire, mop up and repair work continued.Today: Pacific Northwest Team (PNW) 10 (Lawson)...

Moisture dampens fire activity on the Summit Trail Fire (Summit Trail Wildfire)

September 11, 2021 - 10:59am
September 11, 2021  Daily Update Acres: 49,329 acres Start Date: July 12, 2021 Cause: Lightning Containment: 64% Total personnel: 679 Location: 17 miles west of Inchelium Fuels: Timber (litter and grass understory), light logging slash  Highlights: The Summit Trail Fire received a half-inch of rain overnight, reducing fire activity throughout the fire area. Light rain showers persisted for nearly 12 hours, allowing small fuels such as dead grass, pine needles, and small sticks and twigs to absorb enough moisture that they will likely require several days of lower humidity and wind to dry out before supporting active fire movement. Larger fuels such as branches, limbs, and snags may still continue to burn despite these wetter conditions. Spot fires are likely to surface in the coming days as the smoldering debris on the forest floor dries out and reignites. Operations: On the northwest side of the fire, crews evaluated the burnout operation from the previous day and attempted to...

Muckamuck update 9/11/2021 (Muckamuck Wildfire)

September 11, 2021 - 10:25am
Conconully, WA: Yesterday crews worked on hot spots within the fire and worked to secure perimeter lines. Division Charlie (north portion of the fire) worked to finish up black line operations and were able to secure another portion of their division which helped with containment numbers. Division Xray (northeast portion of the fire) worked hot spots and continue working in 150 ft from the perimeter. The repair group finished up work on the Kerr Campground and moved to Oriole Campground. This is repair work to clean up trees and debris from the fire. Division Foxtrot (south end of the fire) finished up perimeter control and is now in full patrol status. Today crews will continue more of the same work in their divisions. Over the next few days crews will remove equipment that is no longer needed on the fire and focus on repair and cleanup. Some of those repair standards include: chipping and disbursing of large concentrations of unburned fuels created during suppression, identify and...

Walker Creek Fire Daily Update (Walker Creek Fire Wildfire)

September 11, 2021 - 9:11am
Tonasket, WA:  Rainfall totals along the fire since 5am this morning range between .34 to .37 inches of rainfall (NWS – Spokane).  Rainfall started around noon yesterday in the fire area, continuing throughout the night.  Fire behavior decreased throughout the day, with minor torching still visible throughout the early afternoon, pushing smoke down through the Antoine Creek drainage.  No infrared flight was flown yesterday due to the heavy cloud cover and rainfall.  Burnout operations were considered, but ultimately dropped as near-term forecasted rainfall and rising relative humidity would have made the operation unsuccessful.  Due to the duration and amount of rainfall, fire behavior will minimize for at least the next 48 hours.  Crews will evaluate conditions on the ground and create plans for direct line along the fire on the northwest flanks of Bonaparte Mountain, where available and safe for crews to engage.  Crews will continue to monitor and patrol the other sections...

Twenty-five Mile Fire Update - September 11 (Twentyfive Mile Wildfire)

September 11, 2021 - 8:49am
Size: 21,130 acres   Total Personnel: 401 Containment: 40%   Location: 12 miles NW of Chelan, WA Cause: Under investigation   Weather and Fire Behavior: Light rain showers fell over the fire area yesterday though heavy fuels remain very dry. Heavy fuels are large diameter snags, logs, and large limb wood, that ignite and are consumed more slowly than finer fuels like grass, leaves, and moss. The heavy fuels are still burning and as the finer fuels dry out, they will again contribute to fire spread. Today will be drier and warmer, mostly sunny in the morning with increasing clouds in the afternoon, and light winds from the west-southwest. Today’s forecasted light winds, cloud cover, and increased relative humidity will moderate fire activity. Yesterday:  Using both hand and aerial ignition, firefighters were able to conduct firing operations in the afternoon along Devil’s Backbone. Heavy fuels were receptive to burning, however additional...

Cedar Creek, Cub Creek 2, and Delancy Fires September 10, 2021 (Cub Creek 2 Fire Wildfire)

September 10, 2021 - 5:35pm
Cedar Creek, Cub Creek 2, and Delancy Fires September 10, 2021 Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest   Minimal fire behavior occurred in the Cedar Creek Fire this week, with limited isolated creeping and some torching in the Varden Creek drainage and near Slate Lake.   On the Cub Creek 2 Fire, some creeping has been observed around the Farewell and Lake Creek vicinity. No activity was observed on the Delancy Fire. Cooler temperatures and higher humidities are expected across both fires this weekend, reducing the likelihood of active fire behavior and smoke production for the next few days. Crews and heavy equipment continue to complete suppression repair across both fire areas, repairing firelines, felling hazard trees along roads, chipping debris, and repairing roads damaged by suppression activity. The shortage of personnel and equipment nationally, plus the need to prioritize these resources for active fires with immediate suppression needs, have slowed the progress...
