9/10/2021 Update on Muckamuck Fire (Muckamuck Wildfire)
Conconully, WA: Yesterday crews continued their efforts on hot spots and mopping up 150 feet from the perimeter of the fire. Infrared has assisted crews in finding additional hot spots that aren’t seen from gridding the area. The south end of the fire is in patrol status for the most part. While patrolling the southern area of the fire a few hot spots were found and were mitigated by the crews. The repair group continued their task of scouting areas that need repair and working previously identified areas. Today firefighters are continuing mop up and focusing on the hot spots. Patrols will continue on the southern edge of the fire. Most resources are assigned to the north end where most of the heat remains. This is the point of the fire that our crews are working methodically to make sure perimeters are secure and mop up standards are being met. Unfortunately, this is the time they need to be extra vigilant due to the danger of burned-out trees that are ready to fall, stump holes...

Strategic burning operations prove successful on the Summit Trail Fire (Summit Trail Wildfire)
September 10, 2021 Daily Update Acres: 49,329 acres Start Date: July 12, 2021 Cause: Lightning Containment: 64% Total personnel: 675 Location: 17 miles west of Inchelium Fuels: Timber (litter and grass understory), light logging slash Highlights: Yesterday’s weather provided favorable conditions for burning operations to occur across the northwest and northeast sides of the fire, along with the area around Lynx Mountain. Firefighters successfully incorporated aerial ignitions into their operations to encourage interior burning in several key areas around the perimeter. A few small spot fires ignited from burning trees falling across the road on the eastern flank, although these spots were quickly contained and mopped up. Fire activity is expected to be minimal today due to incoming rain, higher humidity, increased cloud cover, and lighter winds. Operations: On the west side, crews applied fire starting from control lines moving northeast toward Seventeenmile Road, while a...
Twenty-five Mile Fire Update - September 10 (Twentyfive Mile Wildfire)
Size: 21,052 acres Total Personnel: 418 Containment: 40% Location: 12 miles NW of Chelan, WA Cause: Under investigation Yesterday: Firefighters were able to take advantage of favorable conditions yesterday afternoon by continuing hand firing and aerial ignitions in the Stormy Mountain area. The primary objective of these burnout operations is to secure a line around the fire and limit the footprint of the fire to the area within that line. Air resources dropped retardant in strategic locations to “pre-treat” along the containment line in advance of firing operations. Further east and north, firefighters continued patrolling, mopping up, and securing the line where burnout operations were completed several days ago. Today: As conditions allow, firefighters will continue burning operations to reinforce the containment line along the Devil’s Backbone northwest of Stormy Mountain. These firing operations are expected to continue for...
September 10, 2021 Walker Creek Daily Fire Update (Walker Creek Fire Wildfire)
Moderating temperatures, along with heavy cloud cover reduced fire behavior along the northwest side of the fire yesterday. The fire grew about 217 acres. The fire has been predominately backing in heavy fuels, with single torching being observed. Heavy fuels, steep terrain and rocky cliffs create a severe hazard for wildland firefighters to create direct line on the fire. Crews have been prepping the USFS 125 and 130 roads as indirect fire line. Further evaluation is being considered on creating indirect line between the northern and southern flanks of the fire. Aerial support is assigned to the fire and will be available to slow progress of the fire as backs down to the fire line, if needed. Fire behavior increased into the night as a thermal belt established at around the 5,000 foot line. An infrared flight has been flown last night to determine the additional growth. Crews will be evaluating potential burn out operations from this morning into the early afternoon, prior to the...

Why are burn out operations on Stormy Mountain necessary (Twentyfive Mile Wildfire)
Burn out operations are being used on the Twenty-five Mile Fire to strengthen indirect containment lines from Slide Peak to Stormy Mountain. These strategic firing operations will continue along the Devils Backbone to near the Pot Peak and Devil’s Backbone Trail junction just south of Angle Peak. Indirect containment lines were constructed some distance from the fire edge to allow time for completing the line construction and to take advantage of natural features like Slide Ridge and Devils Backbone where firefighters have a greater chance of stopping the fire. In the face of fire rapidly moving uphill, pushed by wind, spotting at distances of one tenth of a mile or more, or in situations where dense vegetation is directly adjacent to the indirect containment line, a line on the ground, even one the width of a dozer line, is not enough. Fire will easily compromise lines when there are mixed conifer trees, subalpine fir and overcrowded vegetation directly adjacent. All of these...
Muckamuck Fire update 9/9/2021 (Muckamuck Wildfire)
Conconully, WA: Firefighters will continue their main efforts on the Charlie Division which is on the northeast and northwest portion of the fire. There is approximately 200 acres of active fire that they will go direct and indirect with fire suppression. There is still some mop up and repair work on division Xray which is the eastern portion of the fire. Division Foxtrot which is the southern and western division of the fire is primarily in patrol status. Repair work is being done on areas of the fire that need cleaning up such as: fence repairs, road repairs, logging snags, dozer line and handlines. Much of the same efforts on the repair side will continue for the next several days. Infrared flights are being done each night to look for hot spots. This technology shows the firefighters specific areas to focus on and confirms their previous efforts were successful. Crews will continue securing indirect fire line, and mopping up 150 feet in from the perimeter. The weather...

The September 9th operational video update for the Summit Trail Fire is now available on the Northeast Washington Fire Information Facebook Page
Shifting winds and weather patterns challenge firefighters on the fire (Summit Trail Wildfire)
September 9, 2021 Daily Update Acres: 48,795 acres Start Date: July 12, 2021 Cause: Lightning Containment: 64% Total personnel: 615 Location: 17 miles west of Inchelium Fuels: Timber (litter and grass understory), light logging slash Highlights: Yesterday’s gusty southerly winds presented challenges to firefighting efforts that prevented additional burning operations on the north and northwest areas of the fire. Today’s winds are forecasted to be lighter, and if conditions prove favorable, firefighters will conduct planned ignitions both from the ground and by air. Burning operations are needed in multiple sections of the fire, including Lynx Mountain and the northwestern perimeter to strengthen control lines. The opportunity to conduct these critical operations may be limited by the incoming rain predicted on Friday. Although rain will help minimize the spread of the main fire, dampened forest fuels will not consume adequately during burning operations, which could offer...
