Cedar Creek BAER Report Summary (Cedar Creek BAER Burned Area Emergency Response)
The USFS BAER team has completed their assessment and treatment recommendations for critical values at risk in the area burned by the Cedar Creek Fire. The BAER team was comprised of experts in natural resource disciplines that assessed potential effects and risks to life and safety, soils, geology, hydrology, roads and bridges, recreation sites and trails, and native plant communities. Muckamuck Final update (Muckamuck Wildfire)
Conconully, WA: FINAL UPDATE: The Muckamuck Fire started by lightning on Saturday August 4, 2021. The fire is located in and around the Town of Conconully, Washington. Mixed conifer with dead and downed materials are the primary fuel source along with ponderosa pine, sagebrush, and cured grass meadows. The fire is estimated at 13,297 and is now 99% contained. During the first phase of the fire there were 4 primary and 3 secondary structures lost.The fire is now in full patrol status and a small group is continuing to repair dozer and handlines. This will go on for several more days. There is a chance you will see smoke in the area at times. This is unburned fuels in the middle of the fire and well within the containment lines. Size: 21,552 acres Total Personnel: 293 (6 crews, 14 engines, 4 helicopters, 17 water tenders, 2 heavy equipment) Containment: 50% Location: 12 miles NW of Chelan, WA Cause: Under investigation Reminder about Drones: If you fly, we can’t. All aerial suppression efforts are grounded when drones are detected within the restricted flight area of the fire. Yesterday: Due to the high winds, a flare up occurred within the containment lines in the northeast section. Firefighting crews, engines, and a helicopter were able to respond quickly. The suppression efforts were effective and kept it within the containment lines. Road crews continued to work on road repairs to ensure safe access for fire personnel. Firefighters and air resources focused suppression efforts where active fire is adjacent to communities in and around Cliffdell, Goose Prairie, and Bumping Lake. Crews continued firing operations to strengthen the north/south fireline (about one and a half miles northwest of Cliffdell) to keep active fire from moving west. Firefighters began installing dozer line from the most western point of Forest Road 1706 northwest toward American Ridge. Crews monitored and strengthened structure protection operations (hose lays, sprinklers, fuels clearing) in the Goose Prairie, Bumping Lake, Bumping River Road, and north/south portion of Highway 410 corridor areas. September 16, 2021 Walker Creek Fire Update (Walker Creek Fire Wildfire)
Tonasket, WA: Yesterday, excavators continued to work on dozer line repairs in the Diamond Bell, Fox and Bunch road areas. Hand crews worked around cabins and other structures to restore dozer berms to help the land recover. Crews continue to patrol the fire line and monitor the fire behavior at the northwest flank of Mt Bonaparte. Today, tree removal will continue along Bunch Road and residences in the area should use caution and expect delays. The team is meeting with landowners in the area to address rehabilitation concerns. Yesterday and Overnight: Firefighters and air resources focused suppression efforts where fire is adjacent to the communities in and around Cliffdell, Goose Prairie, and Bumping Lake. Firefighters completed a hose lay along the new north/south fireline (about one and a half miles northwest of Cliffdell) and began firing operations to keep active fire from moving west. Crews successfully completed firing operations along the east/west portion of Forest Road (FR) 1706 to limit active fire from moving north in that area. Mt Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest Pincer Creek Fire Update Pincer Creek Fire Continues Smoldering and Creeping Significant Rain Expected Later This Week Everett, WA, Sept. 15, 2021 – Fire managers report that the Pincer Creek Fire has been relatively quiet over the last several weeks due to the cooler temperatures, increase in precipitation and a more fall like weather pattern. The fire continues to smolder and creep mostly within the Mineral Park Fire scar of 2003. The fire is estimated at 980 acres. Rolling debris and falling snags are a constant threat to the Cascade River Trail. It is anticipated that the Cascade River Trail (# 769) and Middle Fork Cascade River Trail (#769.1) will be closed until next spring at the earliest. It is hoped that over the winter fire weakened trees will fall, reducing the hazards on the trails. Conconully, WA: The Muckamuck fire has been a long process and the team is preparing to turn it over to a smaller organizational structure. There has been lots of preparation in the background to make sure the right resources are left on the fire. Crews on the line have finished their mop up operations and are now focused on repair work and patrolling the fires perimeter. This is customary to make sure the fire has a great containment line and ready to turn back to local agencies. Additional repair work and repairing handlines will continue today. Weather today is expected to be mostly sunny with a max temperature 56 degrees at the peaks with 30% humidity. Northwest winds 6-10 with gusts to 20 mph on the ridgetops in the afternoon. Yesterday: Ahead of the anticipated weather pattern change, firefighters continued to strengthen the containment line west of the fire. Using both hand and aerial ignition, crews worked to complete firing along the southwest perimeter of the fire. Mop up continued in the Slide Peak area and elsewhere on the fire as crews continue checking for and extinguishing any hot spots. Yesterday, wildland engines patrolled the fire perimeter, engaging in any remaining hot spots along the fire line or around structures. Operations continues to shift and focus on rehabilitation of dozer lines and fire suppression damage. Excavators have been working on dozer lines between Diamond Bell Road, Bunch Road, and up to Fox Road. Additionally, hand crews have been evaluating hand trails for mitigation as well as work on sensitive areas of dozer repairs, such as lines surrounding historic cabins. Crews are working with chippers to remove concentrated fuels created during initial attack. A BAER (burned area emergency response) team is evaluation conditions on the fire and recommending mitigation measures to reduce erosions and promote recovery of the ecosystem.Today, crews will continue on patrol along the fire line, searching for hot spots. Muckamuck Fire update 9/14/21 (Muckamuck Wildfire)
Conconully, WA: Yesterday Division Charlie was gridding for any additional hot spots and doing work on repairing handline. There was a hot spot found approximately 500 feet in from the perimeter and mitigated. Division Xray continued their gridding and securing line. Division Foxtrot was in patrol status and no hot spots or hazards were located. Moving into today the fire perimeter is in patrol status. Work will continue on repairing dozer and handline. Heavy equipment has finished up their repair work on Xray and is moving to Division Charlie. Weather today is expected to be mostly sunny and clouds will build in the afternoon with a slight chance of precipitation. The max temperature of 60 degrees and humidity hovering at 43%. Winds 5-9 with gusts in the afternoon to 18 mph. Road closures remain in effect and are being evaluated on a daily basis. Yesterday and last night: Firefighters focused efforts along the northern portions of the fire, conducting firing operations throughout the day. Firing operations were less successful at night due to increased relative humidity below the inversion at about 4200’. Resources continued to secure and anchor line along Forest Road (FR) 1706 and the new north/south fireline (about one and half miles northwest of Cliffdell) to prevent fire spread to the north and east. Additional materials and equipment arrived and were used to reinforce structure protection in the Goose Prairie community. As expected, fire continued backing down slope on the western flank toward the Bumping River.
