 KEY ELEMENTS OF A BAER ASSESSMENT                               Forest Service BAER assessment teams are established by Forest Supervisors before wildfires are fully contained. The Schneider Springs emergency fire area closure on National Forest System lands was decreased, increasing opportunities for recreational activities ahead of the Labor Day weekend. Please keep in mind that these areas are still being utilized by firefighting resources. Be vigilante and drive with caution.Updates to the Forest Fire Area Closure include:Beginning at the point where Highway 12 intersects the OWNF boundary on the east section line of T14R15S13, the closure boundary proceeds along the OWNF boundary in a northerly direction until it intersects the Naches River. The boundary follows the Naches River north until it intersects the Bumping River. The boundary follows the Bumping River west until it intersects the American River. To the south, firefighters worked from Slide Peak along Forest Road 8410 to tie in with dozer line. On the North side of the fire they conducted mop-up operations between Utah Saddle and Grouse Mountain. Air support included delivering water to keep fire spread in check, monitoring firelines, and aerial ignition to strengthen fire lines by adding depth.  Today: Engines and firefighters continue to hold, mop-up, and improve the fire line between Twenty-Five Mile State Park and Junior Spike, utilizing aerial firing and suppression support. Burning operations will continue to strengthen containment lines around Slide Ridge. Firefighters working along existing fire lines will search for and extinguish areas of heat that may pose a threat to containment lines. Firefighters will continue to maintain...

The northern perimeter of the fire is the primary area of focus for the resources on the incident, which remains hot with creeping and smoldering fire behavior. The Schneider Springs emergency fire area closure on National Forest System lands will be decreasing, effective Thursday, September 2 at noon, increasing opportunities for recreational activities ahead of the Labor Day weekend. Please keep in mind that these areas are still being utilized by firefighting resources. Be vigilante and drive with caution.Updates to the Forest Fire Area Closure include: Lands within the William O. Douglas Wilderness to the North and West of Bumping Lake are now open. Access to these areas is available via US Hwy 410 only; Bumping Lake Road remains closed. National Forest System lands south of US Hwy 12 are now open. Small sections north of US Hwy 12 between the Tunnel and Indian Creek are now open to allow for recreation residence access immediately adjacent to the highway. Fire crews continue to secure all fire lines. In the northwest corner the resources have secured the line from the burn out and will continue to mop up. The repair work in the campground is ongoing. Air resources and hose lays are in place and supporting the mop up efforts. The backhaul of excess supplies and equipment is ongoing.
