White River and Irving Peak Fires Update September 4, 2022 - 9:00 AM Plain, WA – Lightning started the White River and Irving Peak Fires on August 11. The fires are burning on the Okanagan-Wenatchee National Forest, northwest of Plain, WA. Suppression Strategy – Fire managers are continuing to implement our long-term strategy including the use of primary and contingency perimeter lines for containment. Tactics include completion and reinforcement of fire lines (roads and hand line). Operations – A more seasonal, cooler weather pattern moves over the fire area tomorrow moderating fire behavior. Smoke may continue to be visible over the next several weeks as remaining interior fuels continue to smolder and burn out. Firefighters will continue to actively manage both fires over the coming weeks with a long-term strategy in place. Due to moderating fire behavior, fire updates will transition to every other day meaning there will be no update tomorrow. Daily updates may resume...

White River and Irving Peak Fires Update September 3, 2022 - 9:00 AM Plain, WA – Lightning started the White River and Irving Peak Fires on August 11. The fires are burning on the Okanagan-Wenatchee National Forest, northwest of Plain, WA. Suppression Strategy – Fire managers are refining a long-term strategy including the use of primary and contingency perimeter lines for containment. Tactics include completion and reinforcement of fire lines (roads and hand line). Operations – A cold front will be moving into the area with slightly higher humidity, lower temperatures and very strong winds, gusts possibly up to 35 mph. Wind alignment with the topographical features near the fires could test the work on control lines completed to date. No structures have been lost due to these fires. Fire The White River and Irving Peak Fires are burning near each other in the White River and Little Wenatchee River drainages upstream from Lake Wenatchee. They have burned a total of 3,575 acres and are 1% contained. Firefighters are patrolling roads to monitor and hold the fires. The fires have reached the roads at several locations. Smoke from the fires on Thursday was observed to be settling into the river drainages, especially the lower portion of the White River drainage. Todays fire activity is expected to be slow backing on the lower slopes with pockets of higher intensity. Upper slopes and ridge tops will be more active. The Irving Peak Fire could continue a slow flanking movement to the east and west.
