Highlights: The White River and Irving Peak Fires were started by lightning on August 11 and are burning on the Okanagan-Wenatchee National Forest, approximately 15 miles northwest of Plain, WA. After clouds prevented an infrared flight for a couple days, an infrared flight yesterday provided fire personnel with a more accurate estimate of acres burned.Operations: Crews continue to make good progress on prepping roads and chipping along White River and Road Forest Road 6404. They anticipate completing that work today. Sawyers are progressing up Forest Road 6500 felling dangerous snags while chipping crews follow behind them. Firefighters completed installation of sprinklers around buildings and will be testing those sprinkler systems today. Creeping and smoldering behavior was observed in ground fuels, and occasional single tree torching during the warmest part of the day. The fire is burning is very steep and rugged terrain with thick dead and down timber litter on the ground, making direct access to the fire dangerous for firefighters.  Crews and heavy equipment continue to improve roadways and other natural barriers as indirect containment line in anticipation of the challenge of stronger winds predicted later this weekend. Highlights: The White River and Irving Peak Fires were started by lightning on August 11 and are burning on the Okanagan-Wenatchee National Forest, approximately 15 miles northwest of Plain, WA. These fires have burned approximately 1,000 acres, with 1% containment.Operations: Fire growth slowed yesterday as it remained cloudy and muggy for most of the day. Smoke and haze also impacted aviation operations, but aircraft were able to drop water on the Irving Peak Fire and will continue air operations today to support on-the-ground firefighters. Additional crews and woodchippers have arrived and will work on brushing and chipping along the Little Wenatchee Road. Near the White River Road. and Tall Timbers area, crews will complete installation of sprinklers around identified buildings and continue with structure evaluation and preparation. Highlights: The White River and Irving Peak Fires were started by lightning on August 11 and are burning on the Okanagan-Wenatchee National Forest, approximately 15 miles northwest of Plain, WA.Suppression Strategy: Both fires are being suppressed with a combination of strategies and tactics that provide the highest likelihood of success while mitigating risks to firefighters. Values at risk include human safety, private property, recreational resources and critical habitat for threatened and endangered species. Extremely steep and inaccessible terrain require that firefighters construct indirect fire line using existing roads, in some cases a considerable distance from the fire’s burning edge. Highlights: The White River and Irving Peak Fires were started by lightning on August 12 and are burning on the Okanagan-Wenatchee National Forest, approximately 15 miles northwest of Plain, WA. Both fires have burned approximately 943 acres combined, growing approximately 148 acres in the past 24 hours. Growth was primarily uphill, while water-dropping aircraft helped to moderate spread downhill toward values at risk. Yesterday, firefighters worked to prepare Little Wenatchee Road and Sears Creek Road, securing threatened structures, and preparing roads to be used as containment lines when needed. Both fires have burned approximately 676 acres combined with zero containment.
