They are burning on the Okanagan-Wenatchee National Forest, northwest of Plain, WA.Special announcements- Effective immediately, the Forest Service is increasing the closure on Little Wenatchee Road (Forest Service Road [FSR] 65) to include the section between the National Forest boundary and the junction of FSR 65 and FSR 6700. This closure is in place for firefighter and public safety due to Irving Peak Fire traffic on the roadway. FiresThe White River and Irving Peak Fires are burning near each other in the White River and Little Wenatchee drainages upstream from Lake Wenatchee. They have burned a total of 2,665 acres and are 1% contained. Firefighters are patrolling where roads have been improved to hold the fires and monitoring them as they approach. Today the fires areexpected to continue slowly backing downhill with isolated flareups in heavy fuel. The Irving Peak Fire should also continue a slow flanking movement to the east along the slope near the top of the ridge. The Irving Peak Fire could be more active than the White River Fire due to more exposure to the sun and wind.SmokeThe fires yesterday produced more smoke than in recent days. It accumulated in the drainages near the fires and at Lake Wenatchee overnight. The smoke will be held in place until a strong morning inversion lifts. Highlights: Lightning started the White River and Irving Peak Fires on August 11. They are burning on the Okanagan-Wenatchee National Forest, northwest of Plain, WA.Today concludes Northwest Team 7’s 14 days on the White River and Irving Peak fires. Northwest Team 8, with Incident Commander Kevin Stock, will assume command of the fires at 8:00 p.m. on August 29.Operations: Firefighters have completed preparations on the roads surrounding the White River Fire and along Little Wenatchee Road. They continue to patrol along White River Road and Sears Creek Road. Masticators are now working along the 200 and 311 road systems. Yesterday, the Irving Peak fire reached Forest Road 6504, creating an anchor point for firefighters. They have burned a total of 2,665 acres and are 1% contained. Firefighters north and east of White River, and south of Irving Peak, are patrolling and prepared if the fire approaches the fire lines. Today the fires are expected to continue slowly backing downhill with isolated flareups in heavy fuel. The Irving Peak Fire should also continue a slow flanking movement to the east along the slope. The Irving Peak Fire should be more active than the White River Fire due to more exposure to the sun and wind.Smoke: Smoke from yesterday and overnight will have accumulated in the drainages near the fires and Lake Wenatchee. They are burning on the Okanagan-Wenatchee National Forest, approximately 15 miles northwest of Plain, WA.Operations: Yesterday, firefighters completed nine days of chipping operations and road preparation along 14 miles of the Little Wenatchee Road. Priority now will shift to dozer and mastication work along the 200 and 311 road systems.Firefighters north and east of White River are patrolling and prepared if the fire approaches the fire line. Fire: The White River and Irving Peak Fires are burning in the White River and Little Wenatchee drainages upstream from Lake Wenatchee, on either side of Wenatchee Ridge. They have burned a total of 2,522 acres and are each 1% contained. Bulldozers and masticators continue to improve firelines. Fire crews and engines are positioned to hold those lines. Yesterday had modest fire growth, and the same is expected today, with fire backing down steep slopes, continued burning of large fuels within the fire perimeter and some movement sideways along the slope. Smoke: Quieter winds will tend to keep the smoke in the general area of the fire and Lake Wenatchee during the day. In the evening, after the normal nighttime down valley winds start, smoke will move down the Wenatchee River drainage. Plain, WA – Lightning started the White River and Irving Peak Fires on August 11. They are burning on the Okanagan-Wenatchee National Forest, approximately 15 miles northwest of Plain, WA. Operations: Yesterday’s wind brought increased fire activity and growth along the southern and southeastern flanks of the Irving Peak Fire. Minimal growth on the White River Fire was observed due to helicopters checking the fire’s spread into the afternoon along the southeastern perimeter. High winds gusting to 40 mph prevented the use of helicopters in the late afternoon. Chippers continued their work west along the Little Wenatchee Road and the 6504 Road. Dozers and masticators are opening and improving the road system north of Little Wenatchee Road to use as a fire line if needed. Clouds, lower temperatures and higher humidity will combine today to decrease fire activity.Smoke: Gusty W-NW winds will disperse any smoke during the day, with little to no impact on communities. Fire: The White River and Irving Peak wildfires now total 2,522 acres. Firefighters are using a combination of natural features and constructed fire line to actively contain these wildfires. Strong winds, generally from the West, will affect the fire area Friday. The weekend will be much cooler and marine air is bringing higher humidity.Smoke: Wind is likely to drive increased fire spread, and there will be more smoke produced from the fires Friday compared to days prior. Expect air quality to be UNHEALTHY for SENSITIVE GROUPS at Lake Wenatchee, with periods of UNHEALTHY there, especially towards evening. Highlights: Lightning started the White River and Irving Peak Fires on August 11. They are burning on the Okanagan-Wenatchee National Forest, approximately 15 miles northwest of Plain, WA. Both fires are under an “indirect” suppression strategy. Brush and small trees are being cleared and chipped along the White River and Little Wenatchee Roads, to prepare these roads for use as containment lines if the fires reach them.Operations: Yesterday, mop up continued on a small lightning-caused fire north of the White River Road caused by Monday’s lightning.
