The steep, rugged, and dangerous terrain led managers to take mainly a confine/contain strategy with firefighter and public safety being the highest priority. Crews continue to shore up containment lines around the north, east, and south portions of the fire. A more accurate assessment of the fire perimeter was done yesterday by air with an updated acreage of 1024. The fire continues backing, active flanking, and some torching. News Release September 7, 2022 Davenport, WA - The Seven Bays Fire is located approximately 15 miles northwest of Davenport, WA. This fire started on Sunday, September 4th and has burned approximately 1,000 acres of rangeland, stubble and scattered forest lands. The fire is 15% contained. Evacuations: No Evacuation levels. Road Closure: No Road Closures. Tuesday, Fire fighters completed containment line around the fire and began mopping up the perimeter of the fire. Current fire containment is at 15%. Small unburn islands of fuel within the fire perimeter continue to burn. Fire fighters conducted hazard tree falling along Miles-Creston road which caused temporary closure of the road. High winds will start early in the day with gust up to 30 mph, and there is a chance of thunderstorms, which could cause erratic winds up to 40 mph. Rum Creek Fire stays calm today MERLIN, Ore. – The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning today due to high temperatures and low relative humidity, which ended at 8 p.m. A Heat Advisory extends until 11 p.m. Wednesday, with more hot weather expected later in the week. As of 6 p.m., gusts were recorded up to 15 mph on the ridgetops in the fire, with stronger winds recorded nearby. With high temperatures, low relative humidity, and some gusty winds, the Rum Creek Fire burned actively today. On the northwest part of the fire towards the Rogue River, firefighters found and suppressed a few small spot fires. The rest of the fire stayed within the containment lines. The northwest corner near Montgomery Creek and the Rogue River has large unburned pockets of fuels, creating a potential for fire to flare up and make a push toward containment lines.
