8/14 Northwest CA Smoke Outlook (Natchez Fire Wildfire)
Similar pattern to previous day. Light northeast winds expected for most of the day and smoke will build in drainage areas. Smoke is expected to have more dispersion on August 15. Coastal areas are expected to have smoke impacts this morning as northeast winds transport smoke from southern OR fires. Building smoke in the afternoon will cause unhealthy levels in Hornbrook, Yreka, and Fort Jones.

Kelly Mountain Fire UPDATE August 14, 2018 0800 AM Northeast Washington Interagency IMT Type 3, Team #1 Ed Lewis Incident Commander For Immediate Release Republic, WA – Crews will continue to establish preliminary lines around the fire, focusing on the southeast and southwest flanks of the fire. Dozers and special logging equipment (feller bunchers) will be used to establish preliminary lines as well as remove snags and blown down trees (wind throw). Hand crews will be engaging the fire directly where terrain and safety allows. Fire managers will utilize aircraft when available. Due to more accurate mapping, the fire is now listed at 23 acres. The Kelly Mountain Fire was reported at approximately 11:00am on August 11th and was a part of eleven lightning and storm related fires reported in the Republic/Curlew/Toroda area. Summary: The Northern Rockies Incident Management Team and the Oregon Department of Forestry Incident Management Team are in unified command of the Miles, Columbus, Snow Shoe, and Round Top Fires. The daily update will report only on the current active fires. The fire behavior on area fires will continue to be moderated by lingering smoke conditions until the inversion lifts mid-day. When this happens, there will be a noticeable change in fire behavior beginning around 3:00 p.m. Fuels remain receptive to burning and live fuels are drying ahead of seasonal norms. Miles Fire (31,544 acres, 12% contained): Firefighters have continued to make good progress on the entire southern perimeter of the fire, including the areas south of Elk Creek Road where the fire had spotted within the past week. EVACUATION ORDERS AND WARNING FOR THE HAPPY CAMP AREA For public health and safety due to wildfire, an Evacuation Order has been issued for the area south of the Natchez Fire, near the terminus of the South Fork Road (National Forest System Road (FSR) 17N32) and to include an additional residence in the South Fork of Indian Creek.On August 1, 2018, the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office issued an Evacuation Warning for all residences accessed by the South Fork Road (FSR 17N32...) and the Grayback Road north of the junction of the South Fork Road. The warning was issued as a precautionary measure and is still in effect. The Warning Area has been expanded to include all residences on or accessed from the Indian Creek/Grayback road from the intersection with Dolittle Creek, north to West Branch Campground.Residents in the Warning Area are reminded to be vigilant in the possible event that the Evacuation Warning is upgraded to an Evacuation

Kelly Mountain Fire UPDATE August 13, 2018 2100 PM Northeast Washington Interagency IMT Type 3, Team #1 Eddie Lewis Incident Commander For Immediate Release Republic, WA – Crews utilized dozers to establish preliminary lines around the fire, working primarily north of the fire perimeter. Historic blown down trees (wind throw) and snags on the southern edge of the fire created inoperable conditions for dozers. Special logging equipment (a feller buncher) aided fire crews in removal of snags and blown down trees. Two helicopters provided air support for fire line crews. Additionally, air support located two hotspots and along with crews on the ground successfully suppressed them. Evacuation levels around the Rimrock Lake area have been adjusted, as of noon 8-13-18.All Evacuation Level 2 "Be Set" around Rimrock Lake have been dropped to Level 1 "Be Ready."Indian Creek Campground and Indian Creek cabins have been reduced from Evacuation Level 3 "GO!" to Level 1 "Be Ready."Indian Creek dispersed camping remains at Evacuation Level 3 and is closed.White Pass Ski Area remains under Evacuation Level 1 "Be Ready."Tieton Road remains CLOSED from Forest Road 1000 to US Hwy 12. Local resources from US Forest Service, Washington State Department of Natural Resources along with private contractors responded to the Kelly Mountain fire that grew rapidly due to strong winds and extremely dry conditions. Hamma Hamma, WA – On Sunday crews continued clearing and chipping roadside brush on the south side of the fire along Forest Road 2401. Fire hose, sprinklers, and pumps have also been installed along Forest Road 2401. On the northeast side along Forest Road 2480 fire crews continued to secure the fireline by extinguishing or removing burning material near control lines and cutting trees. Falling debris (rolling logs and rocks) and snags continue to be a concern to the safety of fire crews. Excavators with a masticator attachment continued working west on the north side along Forest Road 25 clearing roadside brush. The fire has held along Jefferson Creek for 3 days thereby limiting fire growth. Heavy fuels such as logs and stumps continue to burn and smolder putting up smoke.
