InciWeb Articles WA - August 11, 2018 - 8:46am
A Red Flag Warning is in effect until 8 p.m. YESTERDAY: Interior areas of the fire continued to show some pockets of heat and produce smoke. Fire managers ensured these areas within containment lines were patrolled and monitored. Firefighters continued to mop up along the fire perimeter. This process is time consuming and thorough, as embers and heat can be hidden for days. Additionally, suppression repair worked on dozer lines and fences outside of containment lines that were damaged during suppression activities. The structure protection assessments were completed in areas around and ahead of the fire. Night operations have ceased, with the exception of the National Guard providing presence and patrol. Resources have started to be released from the incident due to the increase in containment. An objective of incident management is to fit the size of the organization to the need of the fire. Personnel expand and contract in concert with the complexity of the fire. ...

Taylor Creek and Klondike Daily Update - August 11 (Taylor Creek Fire Wildfire)

Inciweb Articles OR - August 11, 2018 - 8:41am
The OR Department of Forestry, US Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management are working together to advise fire managers. Firefighters hear a single, unified message from Agency Representatives. Today temperatures will drop with winds gusting as high as 20 mph out of the north, becoming northeast. Moderate fire weather conditions are expected today. A noticeable smoke column was present Friday afternoon on the Klondike Fire, as the fire became more active. As predicted on Friday, winds out of the southwest and lifted the smoke cap increasing fire activity. This caused the fire to consume fuels between the Klondike Fire and recent days firing operations east southeast of the fire. This strengthened the margin between the Klondike Fire and the communities of Selma, Wonder and Wilderville to the east . Smoke inversions will continue to affect the region. Increased traffic in the Galice area will continue to present safety concerns for firefighting crews along areas roads....

East Tiger Mountain Bike Trail System now over 25 miles

WA DNR News - August 10, 2018 - 2:20pm

Today Washington State Department of Natural Resources is opening 1.5-miles of new mountain bike trails on East Tiger Mountain, just a short drive from Seattle.

Predominantly built by volunteers with support from Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance in partnership with DNR, two new trails bring the East Tiger Mountain Bike Trail System’s total trail mileage to over 25 miles!

New mountain bike trails are popping up quick on DNR lands in the Snoqualmie Corridor, only one year after opening Inside Passage and less than three months after opening the nearby Raging River State Forest trail system, these two new trails provide additional very difficult riding opportunities on the mountain. See video of Raging River below.

One of these two new trails, N.O.T.G (Not Off-the-Grid), offers a faster descent alternative to Off-the-Grid Trail, while East Bound & Down trail provides a more easily accessible, more challenging descent option from Tiger Summit Trailhead, located off of Inside Passage Trail. See the new trail locations in our updated trail map of the East Tiger Mountain Bike Trail System.

A look at our new trail map. Part of a recreation vision for the Snoqualmie Corridor

DNR’s Snoqualmie Corridor Recreation Plan, released in March 2015, included new opportunities in East Tiger Mountain as a top priority. New trails are a result of the local input and community support that went into that planning effort. Visitors will continue to see improvements identified in the plan on the ground for the next decade.

Partial funding for these new trails was made possible through the Nonhighway & Off-road Vehicle Activities Program grant, which the Washington State Recreation & Conservation Office awarded to DNR. A mountain biker zooms through our Raging River Trail.

Sweat equity from hundreds of volunteer labor hours helped match grant funds and helped make the two additional new trails a reality.

Getting there
  • From Issaquah, go east on I-90 to exit 25. Turn right onto SR-18 west. Go 4.5 miles to Tiger Summit.
  • Turn right. Take Westside Road left .3 miles to the Tiger Summit Trailhead on right. Leaving the trailhead, ride out on the Connector trail.
  • Cross the Main Tiger Mountain Road onto NW Timber Trail for a few hundred feet before turning left to get on the Master Link Trail, which can be used to access both trails, riding Quick Link to access N.O.T.G. and Inside Passage to access East Bound & Down.
Finding your way Before you head out, don’t forget to download our East Tiger trail map to a mobile device. Visit our website for map downloading instructions. You can learn more about recreation on Tiger Mountain at dnr.wa.gov/Tiger.

(SPANISH) Cougar Creek, Lost, Bannock Lakes, Whitepine Fires - 08-10-18 (Cougar Creek Fire Wildfire)

InciWeb Articles WA - August 10, 2018 - 12:05pm

Cougar Creek, Lost, Bannock Lakes, Whitepine Fires Update 08-10-18 (Cougar Creek Fire Wildfire)

InciWeb Articles WA - August 10, 2018 - 10:00am
A Red Flag Warning forecasts shifting winds with gusts to 40 miles per hour Friday evening into Saturday. Windy conditions could cause fires to grow and spread rapidly despite fireline construction already completed. The forecast predicts an afternoon shift to strong northwest winds, which could align with ridges to push the fires to the southeast. Firefighters have used burnout tactics to help check the advance of flames in that direction. However dry vegetation, high temperatures, and low humidity mean airborne embers could ignite spot fires as much as a mile ahead of the main fire. The forecast also notes a possibility of thunderstorms without rain that could spark new fires in tinder-dry forests. Cougar Creek Fire: Very high temperatures and low humidity Thursday led to moderate fire activity on all but the north side of the fire. The fire remained active overnight, as temperatures stayed above 80 degrees with humidity levels around 30 percent. Firefighters conducted more burnout...
