Hamma Hamma, WA – On Tuesday, crews completed brushing along Forest Road 25 to serve as the north containment line. Fire crews continued to secure Forest Road 2480 by extinguishing or removing burning material along the eastern edge of the fire. Hoselays and sprinkler systems are operating along the south and east side of the fire. On Wednesday, fire crews will continue chipping debris along Forest Roads 25 and 2401. They will also be extinguishing burning material and cutting hazard trees to improve firefighter safety along Forest Road 2480. Due to the steep, inaccessible terrain, firefighters will not engage on the west flank of the fire on Jefferson Ridge but will be monitoring fire growth on the west and north side. The long term strategy is to keep the fire between Forest Road 25 and Forest Road 2401 while monitoring fire behavior and progression to the west. If conditions are favorable, firefighters will conduct burn out operations to remove unburned fuels within containment lines. Smoke may be visible over the fire area today. NORTHPORT WA – 8:30 pm. The Washington Department of Natural Resources released the following statement regarding today’s aircraft incident: “We are aware of an incident involving a fixed-wing aircraft at the Horns Mountain Fire near Northport, WA. We are working with our partners to gather more information at this time but want the public to know that the pilot of the aircraft is ok and receiving medical attention for any possible injuries.” Air Spray USA, Inc, the company that owns the aircraft, stated: “The aircraft experienced an unknown problem on the fire it was working near the US/Canadian border. The pilot executed a forced landing on a logging road and was able to exit the aircraft. He was transported to the hospital. No other information is available at this time. Kettle Falls, WA – The Boyd’s fire is located 3 miles west northwest of Kettle Falls, Washington. The fire has burned 2,922 with no containment at this time. Participating agencies in fighting the fire include Washington Department of Natural Resources, USFS Colville National Forest, Bureau of Land Management, Joint Fire Districts Stevens County 8/Ferry County 3 and the Colville Bureau of Indian Affairs. Approximately 430 structures remain threatened. Three residences were lost in the fire in addition to several outbuildings. Overnight, crews worked along the southern perimeter of the fire securing fire line, establishing drop points and gridding the fire area. Dozer line was completed tying into the Bisbee Mtn.
