Fire Evacuation Level Change (Taylor Creek Fire Wildfire)
The Josephine County Sheriff's Office is issuing a downgrade from a Level 2 "BE SET” to a Level 1 “Be Ready” for residents on Galice Creek Road from 287 Galice Creek Rd to 1750 Galice Creek. The change goes into effect 8/15 at 3:30 pm. Several evacuation advisories remain in effect for Josephine County. Click here to view the interactive evacuation

Public Meeting to be Held in Winthrop A public meeting is scheduled for Thursday, August 16, 2018, at the Winthrop Barn in Winthrop, Washington. Fire managers will discuss developments on the Crescent Mountain and McLeod Fires. Community members will be given a chance to ask questions and speak with incident management personnel, agency administrators, and public information officers. Evacuation and Road Closure Update - August 15, 2018 (Boyds Fire Wildfire)
Evacuation Levels: Currently, the Matsen Creek Rd. south to Kamloops Island is a Level 2. Matsen Creek Rd. to Boulder Creek Rd. remains at a Level 2. Highway 395 north is still one lane with a pilot car from Barney’s Junction to Kamloops. Highway 20 west remains closed and under a Level 3 evacuation. Many of the public have inquired about this portion of the highway. Although fire activity has diminished, much of the area remains at risk to the public due to danger trees and rolling debris from the fire. Public and firefighter safety is our highest priority. Fire officials will continue to assess the situation and as more information becomes available the public will be notified. A Red Cross Shelter has been set up at the Kettle Falls High School for any evacuees.Road Closures: SR 20 both directions from Milepost 337 Inchelium Road to Milepost 342. Summary: A FIRE WEATHER WATCH HAS BEEN ISSUED TODAY FOR DRY LIGHTNING POTENTIAL A weather system today will lead to some cloud buildups and possibly a thunderstorm. The greatest chance for a thunderstorm is east of the fire. If a thunderstorm does occur, gusty outflow winds as high as 40 mph are anticipated to make rapidly changing conditions for firefighters. Changing conditions are anticipated to include active burning on the interior portions of the fire an increase in the potential of spot fires outside of the fire perimeter. If dry lightning occurs with this system, there is an increased chance that the team will need to respond to initial attack fires. Weather: Today will be mostly sunny becoming partly cloudy with a slight chance of showers or thunderstorms in the late afternoon. Winds will be NW at 3-6 mph with gusts up to 10 mph; 15 mph on ridges. Terrain driven upslope/downslope winds will occur with exposed areas having NW wind in the afternoon hours, shifting to NE overnight. Warm, dry weather and smoky skies will continue. Minimum relative humidity will be 30%. Max temperatures: 80-90s in the valleys to mid-80s on the ridges. Yesterday’s Activities: Low intensity hand firing, assisted by aircraft, continued west of the new primary fireline along the south end of the fire. Due to fire activity overnight, the fire is now estimated at approximately 52 acres. The fire is being managed under a full suppression strategy and with the favorable conditions that presented today, crews were able to safely engage in direct attack on the south portion of the fire. This slowed its rate of spread and increased containment to 10%. Today we were fortunate to have a Canadian Helicopter with Rappellers who were able to rappel onto the fire and engage in direct line construction on the south flank of the fire. The team is still actively engaged in developing contingency plans to ensure that the fire impact is minimized in areas threatened.Approximately 40 structures in the area of the fire remain under a Level 1 evacuation (Get Ready).
