Jolly Mountain Fire Update - September 15, 2017 (Jolly Mountain Fire Wildfire)
Yesterday: Favorable weather conditions helped firefighters increase containment to 30% on the Jolly Mountain Fire. Hotshot crews utilized strategic firing operations to reduce unburned fuels between the containment lines and the fire south of Salmon la Sac. North of Morgan Creek on the western perimeter, firefighters patrolled to ensure the fire remained within containment lines. Mop-up operations continued on the southern perimeter and east to Teanaway River. Crews and helicopters conducted holding operations from Jungle Creek north to Beverly Campground. Today’s Activities: Aerial resources will continue to assist crews with firing operations from Salmon la Sac south to Howson Creek. Along the western perimeter north of Morgan Creek, firefighters are patrolling to ensure the fire stays within control lines. Smoke: Smoke is settling in the valley floors in the overnight hours. Communities closest to the fires and in the same or adjacent drainages are being effected the most. Areas of smoke early in the day will turn to hazy conditions in the afternoon and evening. Expect smoke to settle in the valleys again

FIRE UPDATE: Thursday, September 14, 2017 at 10:00 am EAST CRATER FIRE INFORMATION: 509 395-3360 East Crater Fire (Indian Heaven Wilderness), Mount Adams Ranger District, Gifford Pinchot National Forest EAST CRATER FIRE: Low humidity and east winds on Wednesday helped fuel an increase in the size of the fire by approximately 20 acres, moving the fire towards the eastern edge of the wilderness boundary. Late afternoon helicopter water bucket drops helped checked the spread of the fire. Resources from the East Crater Fire also responded yesterday to a .2 acre fire near Eckhart Point, approximately nine miles northwest of Trout Lake off of Forest Road 23. That fire was controlled by early evening. Late Wednesday a six person engine crew and two fallers arrived to support the East Crater fire suppression efforts. Yesterday: Firefighters finished preparing and plumbing a pump and sprinkler system on the dozer-constructed line south of Salmon la Sac Creek. Crews patrolling the fire’s western and southern containment lines continued mop-up operations. To the east, firefighters were successful in ensuring protection of cabins on the North Fork Teanaway River as the fire backed down to containment lines. Aerial firing operations continued in the Jungle Creek drainage to reduce unburned interior fuels. Two SEATs (single engine air tankers), in combination with a Type 1 helicopter, delivered water drops to cool active fire behavior on the northern perimeter near Johnson Creek. Enumclaw Washington, September 14, 2017 - The Sawmill Creek Fire is currently 915 acres with 0% containment and has increased 64 acres over the last few days. On the North Zone of the Norse Peak Fire, firefighters continue their efforts to improve roads, remove fuel around the fire and build indirect line. Crews continue to work their way into the fire to build direct containment lines. Mount Rainier National Park News Release For Immediate Release Patti Wold, 360-569-6563 Sunrise and White River Areas Reopen: Evacuation Drops to Level 1 September 13, 2017—After being closed due to fire activity outside of the park the Sunrise and White River areas reopened this morning at 8:00 am. Facilities in the area, including the White River Campground and area trails, are now also open to normal use. The evacuation level for the White River and Sunrise area has dropped from a Level 2 to a Level 1, which means to "Be Alert." Fire danger still exists in the greater area and all personnel and visitors should monitor the situation. The park will provide updates in the event of a change in the evacuation status to a voluntary or mandatory evacuation. Included are some important safety tips for residents as they begin to move back into areas that had previously been under evacuation. HAZARDS ▪ Shallow root systems have burned and standing dead trees (snags) will fall easily, especially in high winds. ▪ Walking through blackened areas is not safe for anyone, including pets. White ash may indicate deep pockets of heat where roots and ground vegetation continues to burn below ground level. ▪ Fire equipment remains in the area. Helicopters have been providing water drops, coordinating with resources on the ground to aid with structure protection and are expected to continue similar operations today. Fuel reduction preparations will continue along FS 1900 Road toward the Pacific Crest Trail, as well as improving clearance completed earlier this week. FIRE UPDATE: Wednesday morning, September 13, 2017 at 11:00 am East Crater Fire (Indian Heaven Wilderness), Mount Adams Ranger District, Gifford Pinchot National Forest East Crater Fire: Wednesday is the beginning of a cooling trend lasting through the weekend. Forecasted winds will be westerly and generally less than 15 mph, with the potential for rain over the weekend. Tuesday’s warm weather produced minimal fire grow with some interior single tree torching. To minimize fire spread outside of the Wilderness area a 20 person fire crew, along with heavy equipment, continue to prep FS Road 6035 and other roads along the east side of Indian Heaven Wilderness for use as the fire line. This work consists of removing brush and small trees along roadsides and installing hose lays and will be completed in the next several days.
