NORTHWEST INCIDENTMANAGEMENT TEAM #10 Al Lawson-Incident Commander Clear skies give firefighters more opportunities to engage the fire Sunday, September 10, 2017 Fire: Uno Peak Completion: 1% Acres: 7,236 Start Date: August 30, 2017 Cause: Under Investigation Location: 15 miles NW of Manson, WA Total Personnel: 273 Fuels/Topography: Timber, grass, rugged terrain Yesterday: Fire activity was insignificant due to higher humidity levels and cooler temperatures. Air support was back up and running with four helicopters from Chelan County, the Washington Air National Guard and a S61 Sikorsky. They were able to drop water along the eastern side of the fire. Crews bulldozed trail on Nelson Butte. The structure crew work within the Canoe Creek area completed about 75% of the structure protection. Enumclaw Washington, September 10, 2017 - The Sawmill Creek Fire is currently 848 acres with 0% percent containment. As of Sunday morning, the fire remained within the parameters of the Sawmill Ridge area northeast of the town of Greenwater. Overnight fire activity was minimal due to light rain and lower temperatures. Today firefighters continue to improve roads and remove fuel around the fire. The fire continues to threaten the watershed for the City of Tacoma, industrial timberland, DNR protected lands, and the United States Forest Service lands. The Sawmill Creek Fire was reported to the Washington Department of Natural Resources (DNR) dispatch center on Sept. 4, at 7:30 p.m. Total Personnel 360, Crews 10, Engines 20, Dozers 3, Injuries 0, Structures Destroyed 0 There is a warming and drying trend Sunday with temperatures increasing as much as 10 degrees from yesterday and relative humidity dropping. Yesterday: Crews continued preparing containment line, reducing fuels, and performing mop-up along the eastern, southern, and western fire perimeters. Firefighting efforts benefited from continued cooler temperatures and higher humidity, breezy wind conditions did not significantly increase fire activity. Helicopters continued supporting firing and holding operations. On the southwest perimeter firefighters conducted mop-up along containment lines in the Morgan Creek drainage and areas south. On the east perimeter, firefighters continued firing activities into Jungle Creek with holding and mop-up activities along the southern fire line. Firing operations were initiated along the northern perimeter. Favorable humidity recovery resulted in less active fire behavior during night operations, which assisted firefighters with holding and mop-up on the western and southern flanks. Fire activity has moderated under current weather conditions and is not expected to change over several days. Cooler, moist air and northeast winds kept the fire in check with minimal growth seen over the last 24 hours. This current weather pattern will continue to help slow the spread of the fire on the Pierce County side and will allow firefighters to make progress along this western edge. FIRE UPDATE: Saturday morning, September 9, 2017 at 10:00 am East Crater Fire (Indian Heaven Wilderness) and Bear Creek Fire (Bear Creek Watershed), Mount Adams Ranger District, Gifford Pinchot National Forest East Crater Fire: Fire activity is relatively quiet this morning due to cloud cover over the fire area. Fire spread continues to be minimal and current fire size remains at 467-acres. Heavy equipment is working to prepare roads and remove trees and brush from roadsides on the east side of wilderness to serve as fireline and minimize fire spread outside the wilderness. The fire has been burning in the Indian Heaven Wilderness since September 3rd. FIRE CLOSURES: Hikers are advised that the Indian Heaven Wilderness and a portion of the Pacific Crest Trail are closed due to the fire. Campsites around the Indian Heaven Wilderness are also closed. Fortunately the weather moderated overnight with increased humidity and lower temperatures and the fire did not progress significantly to the south. The fire perimeter remains approximately two miles north of the line that would trigger an elevation to a Level 2 evacuation for the Mazama area. Fire Location: Approximately 7 miles northwest of Cle Elum, WA on lands owned or managed by Washington Department of Natural Resources, The Nature Conservancy, and the Cle Elum Ranger District of the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. Yesterday: Crews continued preparing containment line, removing hazard trees, and performing mop-up along the southern and western fire perimeters yesterday and during night operations. Firefighting efforts benefited from cooler temperatures and higher humidity. Helicopters were able to support firing and holding operations during the day due to increased visibility. Press Release Sheriff FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE EOC UPDATE FOR JOLLY MOUNTAIN FIRE Kittitas County, WA - 09/08/2017 - The Kittitas County Emergency Operations Center is continually working with the Pacific Northwest 2 Type 1 Incident Management Team to evaluate evacuation levels and road closures with regards to the Jolly Mountain Fire. Going into the weekend, the EOC does not anticipate lowering any current evacuation levels. Current evacuation levels and affected areas are listed below: Level 3 – everything north of Double O Ranch Road all the way north to the Boulder Creek area; West Fork Teanaway; Middle Fork Teanaway area; North Fork Teanaway; and Teanaway Meadows. These flights identify and map areas of heat and showed a small section of activity in the upper reaches of the Monument Creek drainage. An earlier aerial reconnaissance had shown some movement into the top of Pat Creek but this was not confirmed by the infrared. Otherwise the fire made very little progression towards the south. The fire area continues to burn into steep, rugged terrain in the Pasaytan Wilderness and is being managed using a confine strategy that combines containment by natural features and full suppression to control the spread toward the town of Mazama.
