09-12-18 Update (Crescent Mountain Fire Wildfire)

InciWeb Articles WA - September 12, 2018 - 8:11am
September 12, 2018 Update Fire activity has moderated due to cool temperatures, relatively low winds and higher relative humidity. Crescent and McLeod Fires received reports of precipitation yesterday which contributed to increased containment. Rain received Tuesday did not fully saturate fuels, although any precipitation helps reduce fire spread potential. Smoke and fire activity will still be visible. Until this area receives a soaking rain or the first blanket of snow, stumps, downed logs, and other ground fuels will continue to smolder and smoke. With reduced fire activity and increased containment, firefighters will no longer work night shifts.Crescent Mountain Fire: Crews will continue to patrol, mop up and remove equipment and supplies from secured fire lines near residences where it is safe to do so. The fire remains active along the lines in the areas near Buttermilk Creek and along the ridgelines near Lake Chelan. Firefighters strive to limit the fire size and minimize...

Iron East Fire Morning Update 9/11/18 (Iron East Fire Wildfire)

InciWeb Articles WA - September 11, 2018 - 10:29am
The preparation continues on both fires, improving line, installing hose lays, chipping the removed brush and generally getting ready to remove fuels by ignition.During early Monday morning, the eastern fire’s containment northeast line was tested and held. Interior embers began two very small fires ahead of the main fire. The wind rapidly expanded the eastern fire indicated by its long narrow footprint. Fire crews contained these fires. They also discovered another spot outside the dozer line which quickly extinguished. The eastern fire is now approximately 100 acres. The fire is burning primarily in dry, dead and downed woody debris. These fuels retain the fire’s heat longer than twigs and grasses. In Fire Terminology these heavy fuels are known as 100 hour or 1000 hour fuels. The western fire has not grown appreciably mainly due to its location in a deep depression that the wind has little effect on. It has been slowly moving down slope. The plan today is to continue direct...

Miles Fire Update, September 11-12 2018 (Miles Fire Wildfire)

Inciweb Articles OR - September 11, 2018 - 10:06am
A Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) team arrived on Monday. The team will mitigate unstable landscapes in order to prevent loss of critical natural resources. BAER teams are staffed by specially trained professionals such as hydrologists, soil scientists, engineers, biologists, vegetation specialists, archeologists, and others who rapidly evaluate the burned area and prescribe emergency stabilization treatments. Appropriate hazard reduction for employees, contractors, and the public may be needed as a result of the fire. This work includes the identification and mitigation of danger trees next to roads, trails, and firelines which pose a significant threat to firefighters and the public when the area is reopened. Fire suppression repair will continue to focus on restoring dozer lines and handlines to a more natural state and to prevent sediment runoff from impacting fish-bearing streams. An upper level trough will move through the area on Tuesday, then deepen on...
