Hazard tree and debris removal will continue along Highway 126, but motor vehicle traffic will be allowed through with a pilot car along a 10-mile stretch between mileposts 28 and 38. Property owners may find that more trees will be removed over the next weeks and months. For more information regarding road closures and delays, visit https://www.oregon.gov/odot/Pages/Wildfire.aspx or www.tripcheck.com.   Lingering showers will keep the fire damp today, but a turn to dry, warm weather is on the horizon. September 26 Riverside Fire Update (Riverside Fire Wildfire)

Inciweb Articles OR - September 26, 2020 - 9:58am
Weather and Fire Behavior: Wind speeds up to 40 miles per hour and wet conditions presented challenges for those working on the Riverside Fire Friday.  Fire weakens trees, making them more susceptible to falling during high winds.  Further, after vegetation is burned from around rocks, they are more likely to shift, particularly when rain moistens soils.  Low clouds and forecast precipitation will limit fire behavior today.  Spread rates will be very low.  While precipitation over the area since Wednesday has affected fire behavior, there are places within the perimeter that are sheltered by the tree canopy and continue to smolder. Yesterday: Crews patrolled the fire area, seeking and extinguishing hot spots. Suppression repair work, including constructing waterbars to address potential soil erosion, is ongoing. Good progress is being made working along the Abbott road to secure it as a potential holding line to the north of the fire.   Today’s Activities: Hand...

Inciweb Articles OR - September 26, 2020 - 9:23am
Lionshead Fire Update – Saturday, September 26, 2020 - 10 a.m.  More Winds Test Control LinesSpecial Notice: The Rocky Mountain Incident Management Team shared a pre-recorded Public Meeting message to discuss the fire situation and evacuation level changes in Marion County. The recording is available on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/events/1383001042049433/ ). Current Situation: Friday brought quite a bit of rain to the west side of the fire. This raised fuel moisture and helped reduce the immediate danger of additional spread in that area. The east side received spotty precipitation and gusty southwest winds. Fuel moistures on the east side of the crest remain somewhat lower. The wind and dry fuels have resulted in some fire activity in green islands within the fire perimeter. These islands may put up smoke during expected windy conditions today. Building high pressure could bring east winds to the fire area today, testing control lines throughout. The high winds yesterday...

Inchelium Complex Update Sept. 26, 2020 (Inchelium Complex Wildfire)

InciWeb Articles WA - September 26, 2020 - 7:22am
News Release  -  September 26th, 2020 Inchelium, WA: Heavy rainfall across the fires was utilized by wildland fire crews to increase containment on the northern lines of the Kewa Fields Fire as well as around structures and homes. Rainfall made for hazardous conditions on roads as well as within the fire perimeter and crews were diligent at maintaining safety through throughout the day.  Increasing containment allowed units to demobilize early from the fire and return to their home districts or be reassigned to another fire. Additionally, some crews continue to ‘time-out’ on the fire and are being demobilized to rest in their home units before being redeployed to fires or to conduct initial attack in their home districts.  Wildland crews typically time out after 14 days of fire engagement and are required to take rest and relaxation days (R&R) before returning to duty, although extensions are possible.   Additional rainfall helped to reduce some of the interior burning...
