Holiday Farm Fire Update 9/28 (Holiday Farm Fire Wildfire)
Springfield, Ore. – Firefighters on the Holiday Farm Fire welcomed another favorable day of weather Sunday. Calm winds and blue skies produced perfect working conditions that helped bump containment to 55 percent. The fire has not spread from its current footprint of 173,094 acres in seven days. The area will continue to turn from warm to hot over the next few days with an east wind component that is expected to stir fire behavior inside the interior of the fire. Residents and passersby can expect to see small columns of smoke within the fire’s interior over the next few days. These “smokes” pose minimal threat to crossing containment lines or threatening homes. Fire personnel are encouraging the public to not report these smokes to emergency services as they overload the system and create unnecessary response. Hazard tree and debris removal will continue along Highway 126, but local motor vehicle traffic will be allowed through with a pilot car along a 10-mile stretch...
Smoke Information - Did You See Smoke Today (Inchelium Complex Wildfire)
Did you see smoke on the Inchelium Complex Fires today? Fuels continue to burn within the perimeter of the fires (Inchelium Highway, Fry, and Kewa Fields) and are unlikely to spread beyond the containment line. Fire crews will continue to monitor the line to ensure containment. How long will smoke appear on Inchelium Complex Fires? Smoke will continue for several weeks or more. Internal fuels, such as logs and stumps will take some time to burn and completely consume. What is causing the smoke? Partially and unburned fuels exist within the fire perimeter and these will continue to smolder and be consumed through a slow burn. In fire terms, areas of the Inchelium Complex Fires had a dirty burn: an area where there is still a lot of standing, half-burned fuel susceptible to reburning. When should I report smoke and to who? Please understand that smoke from far interior burning is generally not a concern. If you see, however, some active burning closer to the fire’s edge, around...

Three Phases of Wildfire Recovery (Western Oregon USFS BAER Burned Area Emergency Response)
THREE PHASES OF WILDFIRE RECOVERY There are three phases of recovery following wildfires on Forest Service lands: - Fire Suppression Repair - Emergency Stabilization-Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) - Long-term Recovery and Restoration Fire Suppression Repair is a series of immediate post-fire actions taken to repair damage and minimize potential soil erosion and impacts resulting from fire suppression activities. This usually begins before the fire is contained, and before the demobilization of an Incident Management Team. This work repairs the hand and dozer fire lines, roads, trails, staging areas, safety zones, and drop points used during fire suppression efforts. Emergency Stabilization-Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) is a rapid assessment of burned watersheds by specialists to identify imminent post-wildfire threats to human life and safety, property, and critical natural or cultural resources on National Forest System lands. If necessary, BAER teams will make...

Daily Update for Lionshead Fire, Sunday, September 27 (Lionshead Fire Wildfire)
Lionshead Fire Update – Sunday, September 27, 2020 - 10 a.m. Firefighters Anticipate Warming and Drying WeatherSpecial Notice: This will be the last update prepared by the Rocky Mountain Area Type 1 Incident Management Team. Pacific Northwest Incident Management Team 13 will assume command of the fire this evening at 8 p.m. Current Situation: Work on the Lionshead fire is proceeding well. Overnight, there was good moisture recovery, but the cool wet weather of the past few days is expected to be replaced today by a warming and drying trend. Shifting winds are also possible. This could result in a slight increase in fire behavior. Winds will likely be out of the east. The changing wind direction could test control lines in some new places. With the drying trend, there could be some fire movement, but a more likely scenario is for most fire activity to continue primarily in green, interior islands. Yesterday: Firefighters patrolled the fire perimeter watching for places near the fireline where heat has held-over through the rains. Crews on the south end of the fire worked to connect segments of dozer line with handline. Today’s Activities: Along with handline, containment lines can include a combination of roads, scars from past fires, treated vegetation areas and natural features such as water or expanses of rock that are free...
