Goddard Road Fire News Release - July 20th, 2021 Rice, WA: Yesterday, crews began the process of bringing up pumps, hoses and port-a-tanks to begin mop-up operations. Along Goddard Road, crews worked on mop-up operations, utilizing engines and a skidgine as primary water sources. In heavier fuels (timber with understory), crews held the line and allowed fuels to continue to consume (burn out), which will allow crews to engage in mop-up safely and in an efficient manner. Today, crews will continue to work on constructing hose lays and engage in reducing hot spots to 25-50 feet into the interior. Crews will work for several days to ensure hot spots are out to 150 feet or where necessary to contain the fire line and 500 feet around structures. A palm IR (infrared) unit arrived this morning and will work with crews to identify hidden heat along the fire line. SAFETY on Hwy 138: Firefighter safety and community safety are the Team’s number one priority. Please be aware of increased fire traffic and follow posted speed limits along Highway 138. Fire information: The Jack Fire is currently estimated at 18,993 acres and is 55% contained. North of Hwy. 138, firefighters continue mop-up, securing and deepening primary line. Fallers are removing snags and at-risk trees to make roads safe to travel and crews continue to monitor fire behavior along North Umpqua River. South of Hwy 138, crews continue mop-up and brushing operations. Heavy equipment crews will prepare line, creating potential control lines along shaded fuel breaks. A shaded fuel break involves removal of shrubs and smaller ladder fuels from under larger trees. Fire Update for July 20 am (Elbow Creek Wildfire)
Wallowa, OR – The Elbow Creek Fire, located about 17 miles northwest of Wallowa, has grown to 17,260 acres. Containment is estimated at 15 percent.The north and east sides of the fire are in excellent shape as crews transition into mop-up operations. The primary focus for crews remain on the south and west sides with overnight growth into the Deep Creek and Sickfoot Creek drainages. Wildland firefighting crews will continue to establish and strengthen containment lines and seek opportunities for burnout operations on this portion of the fire. One helicopter is assisting with suppression efforts with options available from other fires if needed.Structural task forces based in Troy and Promise, which were brought in by the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office, have prepped structures in the area by reducing flammable vegetation around homes. Grandview Fire Update, July 20, 9am (Grandview Wildfire)
In coordinated effort, the Deschutes and Jefferson County Sheriff’s offices have lifted all evacuations around the Grandview Fire area. Sisters, OR – The Grandview fire remains at 6,032 acres. Containment on the fire is now 72%. Fire crews working inside the fire line are pushing mop up toward the objective of 300 feet. Crews are hauling fire hose back to camp, leaving the main hose lines in place for use as ODF IMT 2 plans to hand over command to a type 4 team on Thursday. Snags are a continuing concern around the perimeter of the fire and felling crews are working to remove them to reduce risk of hazards to the other crews and the public. As containment on the fire grows, we would like to thank the public for remaining vigilant and for obeying forest closures put into place on the Deschutes National Forest and the Ochoco National Forest Crooked River National Grasslands. California Interagency Incident Management Team 10 is in command of the fire. The Summit Trail Fire burned actively until about midnight. Night shift crews were busy overnight containing a spot on the fire’s western edge and continuing to patrol and mop up. The priority for today is the south/southeastern side of the fire, with dozers working directly along the fire’s active edge to stop the fire’s spread in the Beaver Dam Creek drainage and toward Twin Lakes. Sweet Home, Ore. – Mop up work continued yesterday around the perimeter of the Bruler Fire. Firefighters continue to engage the fire more directly where possible. Containment is listed at 10%.Fallers have completed work on the north side of the fire, removing hazardous snags that pose a direct threat to firefighters on the ground. This will allow engines to engage heat sources with water. This work will move to the northwest side of the fire today. Lines held, but some spotting and slop-over occurred, particularly on the northeast and lower eastern edge of the fire. Some spotting also occurred in the Central Peak area, as unburned interior fuels continue to dry out and ignite. Crews were able to construct additional hand and dozer line and complete a small burnout operation in areas of more active fire behavior. Location: 28 miles northeast of Klamath Falls, OR Size: 388,359 acresPersonnel: 2,250 Containment: 30% (Klamath Falls, OR) – For ten days in a row, extreme fire behavior in the afternoon and evening has resulted in firefighters moving to safety zones. Yesterday evening, parts of the fire received a trace amount of rain from thunderstorms in the area. The main Bootleg Fire merged with the Log Fire as anticipated. Fire activity in this area was moderated by smoke cover decreasing fire intensity, so firefighters took advantage of conditions to improve the northeastern firelines. Toward the east, significant fire movement resulted in the fire spotting over Forest Road 28 (Trunk Road) toward Summer Lake. On the north edge, firefighters made progress constructing dozer line during the night and early morning while temperatures were cooler and winds calmer. Cedar Creek and Delancy Fires Evening Update July 19, 2021 Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest Fire Information Line - Cedar Creek and Delancy Fires: 509-557-0740 (8:00 am to 8:00 pm) Winthrop, WA — Cedar Creek and Delancy Fires are burning on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest in very steep and rocky terrain in heavy down fuels. Cedar Creek Fire is burning south and west of State Route 20. Today, fire activity increased on all fire fronts, especially uphill to the south. The southeast portion of the fire pushed to the north and east of Sandy Butte where growth continued down the hill toward the highway. More fire line was secured along and above Highway 20.
