Bruler Fire Update for Monday, July 19 (Bruler Fire Wildfire)
Sweet Home, Ore. – Firefighters took advantage of the light winds and relatively high humidity to remove fuels around the Bruler Fire perimeter. Mop up work continued along the south side of the fire. Sprinklers were strategically placed along the west and east side of the fire to aid in suppression of hot spots. Containment is now listed at 10%. Fire activity increased on the northwest and southwest corners of the fire yesterday. A helicopter dropped water on the fire to prevent it from escaping control lines. Additionally, a small spot fire was controlled outside the fire perimeter. Today, firefighters will continue to place sprinklers on the south side of the fire. Engines and firefighters will conduct mop up activities on the north and south side of the fire, leading to future sprinkler placement. Personnel: 2,181 Containment: 25% Yesterday was the ninth day in a row with such extreme fire behavior that firefighters moved to safety zones and looked for opportunities to re-engage. Please note: the fire map issued today does not reflect the actual fire perimeter as the infrared data collection flight was not performed due to aircraft mechanical issues. There was active fire all night on the southeastern corner. A fire slop over across the 28 Road is estimated to be over 2,500 acres in the Elder Creek area. Firefighters worked through the night to limit growth. On the north edge, firefighters disengaged when the fire aggressively moved past retardant lines three to four miles north toward Long Creek. Special Update: Firefighter reported missing, found alive and well (Bootleg Fire Wildfire)
A firefighter became separated from his crew while working on the Bootleg Fire in Lake County yesterday, July 18th. The incident occurred when the fire crew was working on containing spot fires in the Happy Camp area. Crew members reported the individual as missing at 6:30 pm. The Zone 1 Incident Management Team immediately initiated a search mission. Incident aircraft and other resources were dispatched to help with the search. An incident helicopter spotted the firefighter at 8:20 pm but could not locate an adequate landing zone. Another firefighting crew joined in the search and located the separated firefighter. Lake County Sheriff’s personnel also responded to the area and assisted with the search operation and extraction of the individual. Goddard Road Fire News Release - July 19th, 2021 Rice, WA: The Goddard Road fire was reported on July 16th, at approximately 1:43pm near Goddard Road and Orin-Rice Road. The fire is about 1 mile northeast of Rice and 11 miles southeast of Kettle Falls. Yesterday, crews continued to construct additional direct lines along the fire line and monitored heavier fuel (timbered areas, with forest litter debris), which are quickly consuming with the low relative humidity and dryness of the fuels. Along Goddard Road, the fire backed down (a slow progression of the fire as it moved downhill) and was monitored by crews as it stopped at the road. Fire weakened trees and snags have the possibility to fall across the road and are being mitigated by crews to reduce the hazard. 19 July Summit Trail Fire Update (Summit Trail Wildfire)
INCHELIUM, WASHINGTON – The Summit Trail Fire started on July 12th 17 miles west of Inchelium after a lightning storm moved through the area. California Interagency Incident Management Team 10 is in command of the fire with Incident Commander Daren Dalrymple. Yesterday on the south end, firefighters built direct fireline with crews and indirect fireline with dozers. The fire progressed to the north and remains south of the Lynx Creek Road. On the southeast side, crews continued direct line construction and mopped up areas along the completed sections of fireline. Fixed wing aircraft and helicopters were used on a spot fire to the south. Today the priority is to construct line and mop up around the spot fire on the south end. Elbow Creek Morning Update - July 18 (Elbow Creek Wildfire)
Wallowa, OR – Oregon Department of Forestry’s Incident Management Team 3, led by Incident Commander Link Smith, in conjunction with key members from Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Blue Team, have assumed command of the Elbow Creek Fire 31 miles southeast of Walla Walla. The arrival of the fire management organization brings in additional overhead capacity and firefighting resources. Progress was made yesterday on the northwest side of the fire with firefighting crews constructing line and stopping progression of the fire into the Elbow Creek Drainage.
