  Cub Creek 2 Fire Morning UpdateJuly 18, 2021  Fire Information Line – (541)-670-0812 (8:00 am to 8:00 pm) The fire is burning on Okanogan County Fire District 6 and Washington Department of Natural Resources protected lands and the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. Winthrop, WA — Cub Creek 2 – The fire has fundamentally split into two fingers. The east finger is burning north over Boulder Creek and east up toward the previous Tripod Fire scar and First Butte Lookout. The west finger is burning north paralleling the Chewuch River where it has crossed the 8 Mile Ridge and just south of Paul Mountain.  The majority of the left flank of the fire is lined with dozerline from the heel of the fire to First Creek Road which ties into Forest Road 140 leading to Buck Lake.  The fire has burned past Buck Creek campground at this time with no damage.  Colville Tribes Closes Reservation Due to Uncontrolled Fires (Nespelem, WA) — The Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation declared a state of emergency today due to multiple uncontrolled fires on the Colville Reservation. The Reservation is currently shut down to industrial activities and to the general public. The Tribes has imposed an Industrial Fire Precaution Level IV general shutdown, which closes all forest roads to the public. State and county improved roads (with a paved or gravel surface) remain open.

Bucket drops were used in the northeastern area of the fire, which continues to pose challenges. The Saturday night shift, which included two newly arrived Hotshot crews, focused their efforts in that area. That work will continue and crews will ‘spike’ camp in the area in order to increase efficiency by incurring less travel time. Crews continued constructing line north of Cache Creek and scouted locations to tie the firelines together.  Sisters, OR  –  The Grandview fire acreage has been updated to 6,032 acres by using more accurate mapping information. Containment on the fire is now 43%. Bootleg Update July 18, 2021  Location: 28 miles northeast of Klamath Falls, OR   Size: 298,662 acres  Containment: 22%                    Personnel: 2,053   (Klamath Falls, OR) – Red Flag weather conditions played a significant role in fire behavior yesterday.  The fire pushed over Sam’s Cabin Road and the 27 Road to the north. The fire continues to be held from Preacher Flats to Mitchell Monument, and is pushing further east, approaching the 28 road.  Fire crews were able to insert dozer line and burnout to minimize the fire growth overnight. Mazama, Winthrop, and residences upslope from the valley floor should expect periods of USG and Unhealthy air, particularly when the winds shift from downvalley to upvalley continuing until the inversion lifts. Upvalley winds will then start to scour out the smoke. Twisp should expect Moderate to USG throughout the day. Less impacts should occur further downvalley. Consider creating an inexpensive clean room in your house even if you don’t have an air purifier. Utilize a box fan with a filter taped to it in a room with a closed door and closed windows.  Sweet Home, Ore. – The Bruler Fire has remained at 156 acres over the past few days since cooler temperatures, light winds and higher humidity helped firefighters by reducing fire activity. Firefighters were successful in placing hose around portions of the fire perimeter and have lined the entire fire with direct and indirect line. Containment is now listed at 10%.Firefighters are working to bring indirect line closer to the fire perimeter to keep the fire size close to its current footprint. Keeping the fire small is a priority of the Agency Administrator and the Incident Commander. Today, firefighters will continue to place sprinklers on the perimeter of the Bruler Fire. Sprinklers add water to the dry, dead and down trees and plants. The sprinklers will reduce the probability of fire spread, both within and outside the fire perimeter, by increasing the relative humidity in the fire area. INCHELIUM, WASHINGTON – The Summit Trail Fire started on July 12th 17 miles west of Inchelium after a lightning storm moved through the area. California Interagency Incident Management Team 10 is in command of the fire with Incident Commander Daren Dalrymple. Yesterday, crews continued to build direct fire line. There was fire growth on the north-northwest side of the fire, and crews scouted Upper Ridge Creek Road, developing a plan to prep and hold the fire along the road. Due to limited resources the fire continued to grow northeast at a moderate rate of spread. The fire has reached the Beaver Creek Dam Drainage on the east side, and crews continue to construct line to the northeast toward that area. North of Hwy. 138, crews continue holding, securing and mopping up lines along the west flank near Steamboat and east flank above Dry Creek.
