Summit Trail Fire Morning Update, July 23 (Summit Trail Wildfire)
INCHELIUM, WASHINGTON – The Summit Trail Fire was ignited by lightning on July 12th approximately 17 miles west of Inchelium. A VIRTUAL public meeting will be held on Saturday, July 24 at 11am. It will be hosted on the Colville Tribal Broadcasts, News and Information Facebook page at: www.facebook.com/CCTBroadcasts A recording of the meeting will be available as well. Fire activity was reduced somewhat yesterday due to lighter winds, and crews were able to make some good progress. They continued to hold the southern and western edges. The priority today will be to continue to build line ahead of the active fire to stop fire spread toward Twin Lakes as the fire backs into the Beaver Dam Creek drainage. The fire is expected to be active in the Lynx Creek drainage as well and crews continue to prepare the road for containment actions. The fire is currently just a few hundred feet south of the road. Smoke Outlook for 7/23 - 7/24 North Central Washington Cedar Ck, Delancy, Cub Creek 2 Smoke Mazama may have periods of unhealthy air in the afternoon. Unhealthy to hazardous conditions will prevail in Winthrop with periods of clearing in the late morning. Twisp may have unhealthy air to mid morning, then clearing. Communities further down valley will clear earlier. Omak may experience unhealthy air primarily in the afternoon. Smoke from Canada will result in unhealthy air in Oroville and Tonasket in the early morning. Smoke may intrude into the Chelan airshed this afternoon. Health Stay indoors as much as possible while air quality is unhealthy. If you don’t have an air purifier or an HVAC system, create a clean room in your house with a box fan and filter. Monitor the Purple Air Website, or the Fire and Smoke website to find areas with cleaner air in your vicinity. Consider travelling down valley for some fresh air.
Bootleg Fire Daily Update July 23 (Bootleg Fire Wildfire)
Location: 28 miles northeast of Klamath Falls, OR Size: 400,389 acres Personnel: 2389 Containment: 40% (Klamath Falls, OR) – The Oregon State Fire Marshall Incident Management Team has transitioned to working with Zone 2 on the north and northeast sections of the fire. Yesterday, the fireline into Long Creek was improved with hose lay and overnight firefighters were able to begin constructing direct line between Long Creek and Coyote Creek. Crews continue to work on the contingency lines in the northern portion of the fire above Sycan Marsh. Fire activity picked up in the eastern portion of the fire and spotted over Forest Service Road 2901. Goddard Road Fire Update 7/23/21 (Goddard Road Fire Wildfire)
News Release - July 23rd, 2021 Rice, WA: The fire had a significantly reduction in fire behavior yesterday due to cooler temperatures and lighter winds. This allowed crews to make further progress into mop-up operations and gaining on reducing hotspots to the 25-50 foot interior. Crews will continue to work over the next few days to ensure hot spots are out to 150 feet or where necessary to contain the fire line and 500 feet around structures. A Palm IR unit (which utilizing infrared technology to identify heat or hotspots along the fire edge) is progressing around the fire edge, identifying hotspots for crews to extinguish. Today, crews will continue to work along the fire edge, identifying hotspots (burning stump holes, burning forest litter debris, and other pockets of burning material) and extinguishing them. Nine individuals have tested positive. In accordance with protocols developed in partnership with the Oregon Health Authority for the 2020 fire season, individuals reporting symptoms and those who worked closely with them are tested and isolated until results are received. Those who test positive are quarantined away from the fire camp. Fire Update for July 22 am (Elbow Creek Wildfire)
Wallowa, OR – The Elbow Creek fire, now at 19,993 acres, is moving up the ranks in priority across the region and orders for crews and other resources are being filled. Twelve new crews arrived yesterday evening and the fire now has resources from Washington, Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, Michigan, California, Oregon, and Idaho. As additional personnel arrive more objectives are being met, giving firefighters the ability to plan ahead and make changes to suppression techniques. The most active area of the fire remains in the Elbow Creek Drainage near the confluence of the Grande Ronde River. This particular area is central to the intersection of several canyons that produce erratic winds from all directions. Steep slopes along Indian Ridge and Grossman Creek are challenging as firefighters continue to establish hand and dozer lines. Grandview Fire Update, July 22 Central Oregon – The Grandview Fire burning northeast of Sisters on private lands protected by Oregon Department of Forestry and the Crooked River National Grassland is now 95% contained at 6,032 acres. A Central Oregon Management Service Type 4 Incident Management Team under the command of Luke Garcia is now managing the Grandview Fire. Crews will continue to mop-up the fire perimeter until it is fully contained. This will be the last daily update until containment is reached. News Release July 22nd, 2021 Wellpinit, WA - The Sherwood Fire is located about 2 miles Northeast of Wellpinit, WA. It started on Wednesday, July 21st and has burned approximately 375 acres of forest land. Northeast Washington Incident Management Team 3 was dispatched to assist the initial suppression efforts by Spokane Tribe of Indians, and Washington State Department of Natural Resources. Fire camp is established at the Spokane Tribal Pow Wow grounds. Last night fire crews worked on getting fire line around the fire and were able to get 30% of the fire lined. Green Ridge Fire Current Situation: Structure protection measures have been completed around recreation residences at Little Turkey Tail and the Godman Guard station. Road systems have been prepared for burnout operations to the west of the fire along the 46 road. From the Panjab area north of the fire, fireline and hose lays have been constructed, connecting fireline from Meadow creek drainage to the 4022 road north of the Wilderness. On the east side of the fire, in the Wilderness, firefighters are slowing the spread of the fire with aerial support. About 50,000 gallons of retardant and more than 30 flight hours with four helicopters were part of yesterday’s operations. Firefighters are implementing a strategy to the north and east of the fire that considers the highest probability of success given the current limited availability of the specialized resources as well as the terrain and burning conditions.
