NO DRONES - If you fly we can't (Cub Creek 2 Fire Wildfire)

InciWeb Articles WA - July 25, 2021 - 11:46am
IF YOU FLY, WE CAN'T - NO DRONES Unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), or drones, and other model aircraft are increasingly available online and on store shelves. As a result, drone incursions into airspace around active wildfires are increasing.  Prospective operators—from consumers to businesses—want to fly and fly safely, but many don’t realize that just because you can easily acquire a drone doesn’t mean you can fly it anywhere, or for any purpose.  Dozens of airspace conflicts are reported yearly within the wildland fire community. Just one incident on a wildfire, however, can adversely affect the safety and efficiency of the overall firefighting effort. Firefighting aircraft including lead planes, helicopters, airtankers and smokejumper para-cargo fly as low as 150 feet above the ground, which is the same altitude that many hobbyists’ drones fly, so most wildfires have a temporary flight restriction, or TFR in place over the fire area. Drones have limited...
