Elbow Creek Fire Evening Update - July 24, 2021 (Elbow Creek Wildfire)
Wallowa, OR – The Elbow Creek fire has burned approximately 21,928 acres and is 25 percent contained. Overall, today was a successful day for firefighting operations. An inversion’s blanket of smoke suppressed fire activity and created ideal conditions for successful burnout operations from the crews. Efforts in the Elbow Creek area will continue to be prioritized, and slow burnout operations will be completed during night shift. Eric Perkins, Operations Section Chief commented, “We are very happy with where we are at.” In the southwest corner of the fire, a one-acre spot fire occurred, but was caught by a quick response from crews. Currently, the spot fire is being lined by a dozer with assistance from aerial resources. The east side of the fire continues to hold steady with mop-up operations in full swing. Summit Trail Fire Evening Update, July 24 (Summit Trail Wildfire)
The Summit Trail Fire was active again today with higher temperatures and lower relative humidity. The fire has crossed the proposed control line along Oregon City Ridge to the east, and crews are beginning to prepare the Bridge Creek Road as a contingency line. They will continue to assess opportunities for containment closer to the active fire's edge as well. Residents can expect to see crews on roads and among structures north of Bridge Creek. Work along the Bridge Creek Road will begin tomorrow, and motorists can expect one-way, controlled traffic along the road between approximately 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. daily from Carson Beach west to Beaver Dam Creek. Summary: Southeast Washington Type 3 Interagency Incident Management Team 2 assumed command of the fire at 8:00 p.m. on July 23 and is working with the Washington State Patrol-Fire Marshal’s office for this state mobilization.Start Date/Time: July 22, 5:42 p.m. Evacuations: As of 6:00 p.m. this evening, all the areas east of Highway 155 between milepost 18 and Osborn Bay Campground Road are now at an evacuation Level 1. 2021.7.24 Spruce Canyon Update #1 (Spruce Canyon Wildfire)
Colville, WA: The Spruce Canyon Fire started Friday, July 23. 2001 at 2:02 p.m. near Spruce Canyon Rd. and Black Lake. The fire spread quickly due to low relative humidity, unseasonably dry conditions, and heavy timber. Initial attack operations were able to slow the spread of the fire with an aggressive attack. The fire was turned over to the Northeast Washington Interagency IMT Type 3, Team 2 on Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. The fire is currently estimated at 90-100 acres with 0% containment. Firefighters were pulled from other fires in the area to assist Department of Natural Resources, U.S. Fish and Wildlife, and local fire agencies. The partnerships and mutual aid were critical in slowing the spread of the fire.Firefighting efforts today will focus on structure protection, containment lines and getting a good assessment of the fire. July 24 2021 Daily Fire Update (Jack Fire Wildfire)
Fire Information: The fire is currently at 19,956 acres with 57 percent containment. The fire is burning in timber, primarily the understory, with leaf litter and brush. North of Hwy 138, fire activity continues to stay within the control line perimeter. Crews will remain patrolling the area and collecting equipment not being utilized on the fire. South of Hwy 138, on the west flank, firefighters resume patrol to ensure fire will continue to stay within containment lines. Along the southeast flank, good progress was accomplished during burnout operations which reinforces and strengthens control lines. Burning operations will resume today. News Release July 24th, 2021 Wellpinit, WA - The Sherwood Fire is located about 2 miles Northeast of Wellpinit, WA. It started on Wednesday, July 21st and has burned approximately 500 acres of forested land. The fire is currently about 1 mile south of Cottonwood road and 2 miles west of Wilkinson road. Fire crews worked to continue to get a containment line around the fire. The containment line on the south side of the fire has held. The fire continues to grow on the north, east and southeast sides of the fire. The fire has crossed Sheep creek and is burning to an old logging road and into an area of flatter ground. Lick Creek Fire: Firefighters continue to patrol the perimeter of the fire looking for hot spots and mopping up as needed around the southern edge. Green Ridge Fire Update for July 24, 2021 (Green Ridge Fire Wildfire)
Green Ridge Fire Current Situation: Hot Shots, Smokejumpers, and Wildland Fire Modules worked within the Wilderness connecting natural features with trail systems as fire lines and securing spot fires to the east and north of the fire. Air operations moved personnel as needed and dropped water or retardant to assist ground resources and keep fire spread in check. To the west, northwest, and north of the Wilderness roads are being prepared as contingency lines using masticators, dozers, and other heavy machinery. A spot fire outside the line in the Meadow Creek area grew to about 75 acres yesterday before firefighters, aided by aerial support, were able to contain it. Bruler Fire Update for Saturday, July 24 (Bruler Fire Wildfire)
Sweet Home, Ore. – Firefighters have added hose around the perimeter of the Bruler Fire. Work progressed on the alternative and contingency lines yesterday. Firefighters worked on adding direct line on the northwest side of the fire. The helicopter was not used yesterday, as the fire activity remained low. Containment is now listed at 25%.Today, firefighters will continue to add to established contingency line and will conduct additional cold trailing and mop up activities. Masticators and bulldozers will strengthen control lines around the fire perimeter. The Willamette National Forest issued an order yesterday banning the use of campfires within the forest boundary. News ReleaseJuly 24th, 2021 Rice, WA: Yesterday, crews continued to work along the fire line, making progress to extinguish hot spots up to 500 feet around structures and 150 feet along the fire line. The majority of containment along the fire line is between 50 to 100 feet, with sections at 150 feet. Today, crews will continue to conduct mop-up operations, increasing the sections of the lines towards the goal of 150 feet. Crews were able to provide accurate mapping of the fire edge, bringing the final total of the fire to 815 acres in size. During initial attack of the fire, crews constructed over 8 miles of dozer line and a half of a mile of hand line. Where appropriate, these will be rehabilitated as containment continues. Location: 28 miles northeast of Klamath Falls, OR Size: 401,601 acres Personnel: 2224 Containment: 42% (Klamath Falls, OR) –Yesterday, fireline construction progressed north from Long Creek toward Coyote Creek. The day shift was able to hold the fireline from the 400 Road to the south despite some active fire behavior that was pushing to the north and west. Night shift was able to work the area between Long Creek and Coyote Creek and construct direct fireline with dozers, hand crews, and hose lays. Crews continue to clear roads as a contingency plan above Sycan Marsh. Firefighters addressed spot fires on the northeastern flank and struggled to hold them.
