Acres: 616Personnel: 267Percent Containment: 35% Start Date: September 14, 2020Residences Threatened: 50 Injuries: 0Current Situation: Today: Crews cleaned out areas north and west of the Sand Ridge Trail, clearing snags after a successful burnout operation Saturday night. The low intensity applied fire removed a good portion of the fuel load between Hwy 12 and the main fire to the junction with the Sand Ridge trailhead. Crews remain focused on both sides of Highway 12 in the area of Sand Ridge trail and Indian Creek. The hottest part of the fire remains the northwest corner in the William O. Douglas Wilderness Area and pockets of unburned fuel throughout. Inchelium Complex Update Sept. 21, 2020 (Inchelium Complex Wildfire)
Two fires currently burning in a mix of timber and brush on the Colville Indian Reservation and one in patrol status comprise the Inchelium Complex: Inchelium Highway Fire, Kewa Fields Fire, and Fry Fire. All three fires are being managed for full suppression. Crews remain focused on securing exterior lines with an emphasis on mopping up around structures, and the ongoing protection of natural and cultural resources. Current Situation: Yesterday on the Inchelium Highway Fire, crews continued mop up along the northwest flank and around structures within the fire’s perimeter. Resource Advisors are working with firefighters to provide guidance ahead of suppression repair work. On the Kewa Fields Fire, crews continued to hold containment lines as they further secured the northeast, east, south, and west flanks. The Big Hollow Fire is 15 miles northwest of Carson and 7 miles southeast of Cougar, Washington. Weather today will be cool with a possibility of light precipitation. Heavy rain is predicted to move into the area Wednesday and stay through Saturday. Northwest Team 12 will be transitioning off the Big Hollow Fire at 6 PM tonight, to be replaced by two Type 3 teams. One on the east side and one on the west side of the fire. The members of Northwest Team 12 greatly appreciate the outpouring of community support, offers of assistance, and encouraging signs along the road. Yesterday’s Operations: Crews finished the control line behind the guard station at Government Mineral Springs and they continue to monitor the area. The Big Hollow Fire is 15 miles northwest of Carson and 7 miles southeast of Cougar, Washington. Temperatures today will be mainly in the 60s with relative humidity 50-60 percent, with widespread fog likely through the morning. Northwest Team 12 will be transitioning off the Big Hollow Fire at 6 PM Monday night, to be replaced by two Type 3 teams, one on the east side and one on the west side of the fire. Yesterday’s Operations: Patrols continued along FS 57 and FS 58 Roads. Fire crews monitored the fire on the ridge west of Wind River Hwy and in the Wind River drainage. The FS 31 road system and the road to Government Mineral Springs were prepped. Firefighters monitored around the cabins at Government Mineral Springs and worked on improving hose lays around the structures already protected with sprinklers. Two fires currently burning in a mix of timber and brush on the Colville Indian Reservation and one in patrol status comprise the Inchelium Complex: Inchelium Highway Fire, Kewa Fields Fire, and Fry Fire. All three fires are being managed for full suppression. PNW Incident Management Team #12 will be holding a virtual community meeting on the Gifford Pinchot Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/GiffordPinchot/videos/ on Sunday, September 19 at 5:00 PM. The team will be giving an update to the current situation of the fire, as well as the current and predicted weather, fire behavior, and the leader’s intent from the incident commanders. Current Situation: Yesterday on the Inchelium Highway Fire, crews continued to find and extinguish hot spots near containment lines in the northwest flank, with aggressive mop up pushing deeper into burned areas along all flanks. Omak, WA – Yesterday firefighters continued their progress on repair work. Repair work is done to mitigate the damage that happened during initial attack and any other operations during the fire. Dirt road repairs will continue today on the roads that have been driven on several times by fire apparatus. Chipping operations on the northeast portion of the fire continued yesterday and will continue today. Most of the resources fighting this fire are being released home or to another incident. Northeast Washington Interagency Incident Management Team Type 3 Team 2 will transfer command of the Cold Springs Fire back to the local agencies at 6:00 pm Saturday September 19th. A Type 4 Incident management Team made up of local resources will take over the fire. Another storm system is expected by the middle of next week. Yesterday's Operations The south and west areas of the fire are in patrol and clean-up stage. Finishing work and clean-up was conducted along the 31 Rd. Fire near Wind River Highway continues to be monitored.
