Morning update 9/18/20 (Cold Springs Fire Wildfire)

 Omak, WA – Yesterday crews continued their work on repairing fencing and roads that were damaged during initial attack operations. On the northeast corner of the fire crews will continue repair work and chipping operations where containment lines were constructed. Most of the resources fighting this fire will be demobilized over the next few days as their work is completed, leaving a small force of local resources to manage the fire under a Type 4 team.     The Cold Springs Fire started on Sunday evening 9/6/20 and is 189,923 acres and is now 85% contained. Approximately 78 primary residences and 60 secondary buildings were lost or damaged during initial attack operations. There are approximately 142 firefighters from local agencies and from around the region that are engaged in firefighting operations.  The Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of an infant and serious injury of 2 individuals that were found Wednesday 9/9/20 within the fire...

Cold Creek Fire Update September 18, 2020 AM Update Information line 509-761-4858 Incident Commander- Leonard Johnson  Acres: 400 Percent Containment: 5   %                                                          244 personnel Start Date: September 15, 2020   Yesterday:  Resources worked throughout the day to reinforce containment lines around the fire perimeter. Early in the evening, progressing fire on the north side of Highway 12 continued to pose challenges to the stability of the slope and rolling debris downhill forced limited access and a new spot fire on the south of Highway 12.   Firefighters concentrated on the East and West flanks of the fire on the south side of Highway 12 and completed fire line along Clear Creek. Big Hollow Fire Update - September 18 (Big Hollow Fire Wildfire)

The Big Hollow Fire is 15 miles northwest of Carson and 7 miles southeast of Cougar, Washington. Cool weather and a wetting rain are expected to arrive today and stay through Saturday afternoon. Warm and dry conditions will return Sunday through Tuesday. Yesterday’s Operations: Heavy equipment work was completed on the S6000 and S1000 roads. A direct line was cut north of the spot fire within the DNR Siouxon block. Prep along the 3105 and 3107 has been completed. Sprinkler installation and operational checks were completed around Government Mineral Springs cabins. Crews continued to monitor the fire in the Trapper Creek drainage. The fire west of Wind River road and the work on the 54 road was monitored. Today’s Operations: Patrols will continue along the 57 and 58 roads. September 17, 2020 AM Update Information line 509-761-4858 Incident Commander- Leonard Johnson Acres: 252 Percent Containment: 5 %      Personnel: 148      Start Date: September 15, 2020 Current Situation: Crews were able to build some containment line yesterday on parts of the perimeter. Firefighters concentrated yesterday on the East and West flanks of the fire on the south side of Highway 12. Both hand crews and heavy equipment were used to place containment lines connecting it the North side of Clear Creek. The fire has not moved across the creek. There is a forecast later this week for winds to start blowing from the West and the goal is to make sure the southern portion of the fire does not continue to grow towards the Rimrock area. Personnel also worked on the fire located on the north side of Highway 12 that has expanded into the wilderness area north and west of Indian Creek. Se espera que para hoy llegue un clima frío y húmedo que se mantendrá hasta el sábado, y también hay probabilidad de tormentas eléctricas para esta noche. Two fires currently burning in a mix of timber and brush on the Colville Indian Reservation and one in patrol status comprise the Inchelium Complex: the Fry Fire, Inchelium Highway Fire, and Kewa Fields Fire.  All three fires are being managed for full suppression. Crews remain focused on exterior line construction with an emphasis on mopping up around structures, and the ongoing protection of natural and cultural resources.Three National Guard units arrived yesterday including the 141th Air Refueling Wing (Air Guard), 420th Chemical Battalion (Army Guard), and 194th Air Refueling Wing (Air Guard).Current Situation: On Inchelium Highway Fire, firefighters aggressively reinforced containment lines around the entire north flank. The Big Hollow Fire is 15 miles northwest of Carson and 7 miles southeast of Cougar, Washington. Cool and wet weather is expected to arrive today and stay through Saturday. Thunderstorms are possible tonight. Yesterday’s Operations: Crews patrolled the control line along the 57 and 58 roads, conducting mop-up where necessary. Crews continued to prepare the S1000 and S6000 roads and evaluated options to contain the spot fire within the DNR Siouxon block using the S2000 road. Crews began removing fuels along the 3105 and 6401 roads to create a containment line for the northwest. Structure protection work was completed around Government Mineral Springs cabins.  Omak, WA – There was good progress yesterday on the fire line. Crews continued their work on rehab of the roads and fixing fences that were damaged during initial attack. The smoke cleared enough to get a recon flight over the fire. This fire is over 293 square miles and a flight was needed to check on containment lines and look for anything that could cause a flare up. There are no areas of concern at this time. Most of the fire line is in patrol status and the entire fire is expected to be in patrol status in the next day or two.    The Cold Springs Fire started on Sunday evening 9/6/20 and is 189,592 acres and is now 80% contained. Approximately 78 primary residences and 60 secondary buildings were lost or damaged during initial attack operations. (Lincoln County, Washington) – El Equipo NW 10 transferirá la administración del incendio de Whitney a las agencias locales a las 8:00 am el jueves 17 de septiembre. Whitney Fire Final Update - September 16, 2020 (Whitney Fire Wildfire)

(Lincoln County, Washington) – Northwest Incident Management Team 10 will be transferring management of the Whitney Fire back to the local agencies at 8:00 am Thursday, September 17. As crews near full containment of the fire, fuels will continue to burn within the interior, although they are unlikely to spread beyond the perimeter. The public may notice some smoke over the coming weeks. Firefighters will continue to work to mop up all hot spots near structures and inside the fire area within at least 100 feet of the outer edges of the fire. The meeting will be streamed via Facebook Live on the Gifford Pinchot Facebook page.The team will be giving an update to the current situation of the fire, as well as the current and predicted weather, fire behavior, and the leader’s intent from the incident commanders. Questions can be left on this post as well as during the virtual meeting, and staff will try to answer them to the best of our ability at the end of the presentations. The Big Hollow Fire is 15 miles northwest of Carson and 7 miles southeast of Cougar, Washington. Some smoke and morning fog are forecast, with temperatures up to the mid-70s. Variable winds will be under 10 mph. Yesterday’s Operations: Firefighters suppressed a new start in the Trapper Creek Wilderness that could have threatened containment lines. Equipment and crew numbers continued to increase as crews held road 57 after resuming firing to consume fuels inside the control line; they also resumed firing along road 58. Crews used heavy equipment to continue clearing roads S1000 and S6000, and worked to limit fire spread south of Canyon Creek. Two fires currently burning in a mix of timber and brush on the Colville Indian Reservation and one in patrol status comprise the Inchelium Complex: the Fry Fire, Inchelium Highway Fire, and Kewa Fields Fire.  All three fires are being managed for full suppression. The cause of the fires remains under investigation. Crews remain focused on exterior line construction with an emphasis on mopping up around structures, and the ongoing protection of natural and cultural resources.  Current Situation: Yesterday on Inchelium Highway Fire, improving and securing containment lines progressed in the northern areas. Most of the effort focused on interior work around structures within the fire perimeter. In the northeast, east, and southeast flanks of Kewa Fields Fire all lines held and crews continued mop up operations.  Omak, WA – Crews will continue the mop up and repair the roads and fences that were damaged during initial attack. The northeast portion of the fire that was a high priority for several days is now in patrol status.  The footprint of the fire is over 293 square miles with a perimeter of 134 miles. Firefighters are patrolling and looking for any remaining hot spots that could be a threat to the containment lines. Power companies are making progress with the help of firefighters that are clearing hazard trees around their work sites. The Cold Springs Fire started on Sunday evening 9/6/20 and is 188,852 acres with 70% containment. Babb-Malden Fire Yesterday: Additional resources significantly increased containment efforts as a “surge mobilization” of cooperating agencies focused on extinguishing visible smoke and continuing mop up work around structures.  Today: Fire crews will mop up, watch for flare ups, and continue to strengthen control lines in an effort to bring the fire into patrol status. Fire management will return this incident back to the local fire district at 6:00 pm. Evacuation and Closures: Pine City-Malden Road is currently closed to the public from the west side of Pine City to the eastside of Malden. Babb-Malden Fire On September 13: Operations focused on extinguishing visible smoke and continued mop-up work around structures. Unique cooperation between state mobilization, fire defense committee, local fire crews, and state and federal partners, resources significantly increased by the addition of what is called a "surge mobilization." With the assistance of these additional forces, crews focused on the perimeter fire line; however, there is still unburned fuel inside the north end of the fire. Washington state inmate crews will assist with mop-up operations on the Spokane County side of the fire.
