General Information: The Arizona Type 3 Incident Management Team (IMT) arrived on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest yesterday to manage two (2) fires located in the Gilbert/Upper Twisp River area, approximately 21 miles west of Twisp. Cougar Creek Fire - Entiat August 1, 2018 (8:00 a.m.) Acres: 803Containment: 0%Location: 20 miles northwest of EntiatStart Date: July 28, 2018 (7:21 p.m.)Cause: Lightening Current Activity: The Cougar Creek fire is located 20 miles northwest of Entiat. The fire continues to burn in heavy timber, snags, and logs in steep inaccessible terrain. Yesterday, crews continued building containment lines around the fire. Crews also are working to improve the existing lines from previous fires in the area. Crews have been monitoring the fire from viewpoints and tracking fire behavior. Forecasted winds are expected to push the fire to the south-southeast. A Type 1 Incident Management Team has been ordered and is expected to arrive later in the week. Last night, crews were sent to the Navarre Coulee fire to support local agencies with initial attack. Crews, engines and overhead worked through the night assisting the local agencies. The fires are approximately 2 miles apart in steep and remote terrain with no occupied structures being threatened at this time. There are no evacuation levels currently in effect. Chelan, WA – The Chelan Hills fire is located east of Highway 97, south of the Beebe Bridge. The fire has burned in grass, short brush, and wheat fields. Some structure were reported as damaged. Sunday, crews investigated to confirm any damages. Participating agencies in fighting these wildfires include the Bureau of Land Management, Douglas County Fire Districts 1, 4, and 5, and Washington State Department of Natural Resources.The Chelan Hills fire has burned 1,842 acres, is 97 percent contained and has 244 personnel currently working the fire. Although some internal burning continues within the containment lines, the fire has not grown in size. Three strike teams of engines and fallers continue to work within the fire area. Firefighters are falling burned and dead hazard trees. Hazard trees create an immediate danger for anyone in the area. They can also fall over, rolldown the hillside and start new fires. Upriver Beacon Fire UPDATE July 21, 2018 8:00 AM Northeast Washington Interagency IMT Type 3, Team #2 DJ Greene Unified Incident Commander Spokane County Fire District #9 Division Chief Nathan Jeffries Unified Incident Commander For Immediate Release Spokane, WA, - Firefighters are on the fire line for one last patrol of containment lines this morning as work wraps up on the Upriver Beacon Fire. Firefighters will have completed mop up work 300 feet around all structures and 100 feet in around the entire fire perimeter. Camp Sekani and Shields Park Climbing Rocks are now open. The parks department is advising citizens to stay clear of the areas of the parks that have burned for their safety. All previous evacuation orders have been lifted. There are no road closures. Upriver Beacon Fire UPDATE July 19, 2018 0800 Hours Northeast Washington Interagency IMT Type 3, Team #2 DJ Greene Unified Incident Commander Spokane County Fire District #9 Division Chief Nathan Jeffries Unified Incident Commander For Immediate Release Spokane, WA, - Overnight, utility crews from Avista and Inland Power made good progress in repairing infrastructure that was damaged during the first hours of the fire. Firefighters also worked overnight to strengthen containment lines and identify hot spots. Today crews will be out on the line and will focus on areas of the fire that had been previously unsafe to access due to power lines that were down. As of noon today the Level 1 advisory for Burch Mountain (Sunnyslope) area will be rescinded. The Burch Mountain Road remains closed at the end of the pavement. The Level 1 notice for the Swakane area will remain in place until further notice.
