Grandview Fire Update, July 20, 9am (Grandview Wildfire)
In coordinated effort, the Deschutes and Jefferson County Sheriff’s offices have lifted all evacuations around the Grandview Fire area. Sisters, OR – The Grandview fire remains at 6,032 acres. Containment on the fire is now 72%. Fire crews working inside the fire line are pushing mop up toward the objective of 300 feet. Crews are hauling fire hose back to camp, leaving the main hose lines in place for use as ODF IMT 2 plans to hand over command to a type 4 team on Thursday. Snags are a continuing concern around the perimeter of the fire and felling crews are working to remove them to reduce risk of hazards to the other crews and the public. As containment on the fire grows, we would like to thank the public for remaining vigilant and for obeying forest closures put into place on the Deschutes National Forest and the Ochoco National Forest Crooked River National Grasslands. Bruler Fire Update for Tuesday, July 20 (Bruler Fire Wildfire)
Sweet Home, Ore. – Mop up work continued yesterday around the perimeter of the Bruler Fire. Firefighters continue to engage the fire more directly where possible. Containment is listed at 10%.Fallers have completed work on the north side of the fire, removing hazardous snags that pose a direct threat to firefighters on the ground. This will allow engines to engage heat sources with water. This work will move to the northwest side of the fire today. Today, firefighters will continue to activate sprinklers around the Bruler Fire. Additional hose, pumps and sprinklers will be added to the fire for the next few days. Masticators are working on the south side of the fire to improve the 1152 road for the incoming heavy equipment. Location: 28 miles northeast of Klamath Falls, OR Size: 388,359 acresPersonnel: 2,250 Containment: 30% (Klamath Falls, OR) – For ten days in a row, extreme fire behavior in the afternoon and evening has resulted in firefighters moving to safety zones. Yesterday evening, parts of the fire received a trace amount of rain from thunderstorms in the area. The main Bootleg Fire merged with the Log Fire as anticipated. Fire activity in this area was moderated by smoke cover decreasing fire intensity, so firefighters took advantage of conditions to improve the northeastern firelines. Toward the east, significant fire movement resulted in the fire spotting over Forest Road 28 (Trunk Road) toward Summer Lake. Updated Bootleg Fire Map July 19 (Bootleg Fire Wildfire)
Overnight the Bootleg Fire saw a significant increase in activity and acres burned. The predicted high winds and low humidity associated with the Red Flag Warning contributed to the increase in fire activity. Due to mechanical issues, the Infrared (IR) Flight was not completed but fire managers and geographic information system specialist have worked to ground truth firefighter inputs and satellite data to produce an updated perimeter for the fire. The new acreage is estimated at 343,755 and containment remains at 25%. Red Flag Warnings for high winds and low humidity are in place again for Monday, July 19th and the potential to experience another day of large fire growth is possible. IR Flights are one of several data tools used to build map products for wildland fire incidents. Wallowa, OR – Two days of fire growth not previously captured by infrared mapping now shows the fire at 16,432 acres. Containment is estimated at 10 percent. The arrival of Oregon Department of Forestry’s Incident Management Team brings in additional overhead capacity and firefighting resources. There is a total of 343 firefighters and overhead personnel on the incident with additional crews on order. Crews continued to manage northside lines of the fire perimeter successfully. Growth occurred on the southwest side with winds out of the northeast pushing the fire through the canyons. Steep and rocky terrain continues to be challenging in the canyons of the Grande Ronde River. Lick Creek Fire Update Jul 19, 2021 (Lick Creek (Dry Gulch) Fire Wildfire)
Current Situation: The fire perimeter to the north and east, along the South Fork of the Asotin Creek and Peola road is contained and remains in patrol status. To the southeast, established fireline was wind tested by strong northern winds picking up embers from some trees torching on the interior of the fireline. Crews continued to maintain and improve fireline in that area and will patroll during day and night operations. Firelines near the Cloverland snow park area and Forest Service road 43 continue to be improved and are on track to be put into a patrol status soon. The southwest line of the fire also received higher winds during the night creating spot fires that night crews were able to contain. Fire Update: Monday, July 19, 2021 SAFETY on Hwy 138: For the safety of firefighters and the public, please be aware of increased fire traffic and follow posted speed limits along Highway 138. Fire information: The Jack Fire is currently estimated at 17,994 acres and is 50% contained. North of Hwy. 138, Along the northern flank, firefighters deepened the control line, and will continue mop-up and securing line. On the eastern flank, crews will complete burnout operations for increased depth of fire lines. Fallers are removing snags and at-risk trees to make roads safe to travel and crews continue to monitor fire behavior along North Umpqua River. South of Hwy 138, firefighters have prepared control lines and burned vegetation to create a secure control line on the west and southwest flanks. Grandview Fire Update, July 19, 9am (Grandview Wildfire)
Sisters, OR – The Grandview fire acreage remains at 6,032 acres. Containment on the fire is now 57%. Crews are pushing mop up from 50 feet to 100 feet or more inside the fire line. The goal over the next few days is to remove all heat at least 300 feet from the fire’s edge. Searching for lingering heat is done by carefully searching in grids, finding hot spots in the ground, and cooling them. Each grid is searched several times to ensure that all heat is gone. Team 2 successfully conducted an incident-wide simulated Incident Within an Incident, followed by a safety stand down to allow crews to discuss and review the safety protocols for rapid response to aid an injured firefighter. Bruler Fire Update for Monday, July 19 (Bruler Fire Wildfire)
Sweet Home, Ore. – Firefighters took advantage of the light winds and relatively high humidity to remove fuels around the Bruler Fire perimeter. Mop up work continued along the south side of the fire. Sprinklers were strategically placed along the west and east side of the fire to aid in suppression of hot spots. Containment is now listed at 10%. Fire activity increased on the northwest and southwest corners of the fire yesterday. A helicopter dropped water on the fire to prevent it from escaping control lines. Additionally, a small spot fire was controlled outside the fire perimeter. There was active fire all night on the southeastern corner. A fire slop over across the 28 Road is estimated to be over 2,500 acres in the Elder Creek area. Special Update: Firefighter reported missing, found alive and well (Bootleg Fire Wildfire)
A firefighter became separated from his crew while working on the Bootleg Fire in Lake County yesterday, July 18th. The incident occurred when the fire crew was working on containing spot fires in the Happy Camp area. Crew members reported the individual as missing at 6:30 pm. The Zone 1 Incident Management Team immediately initiated a search mission. Incident aircraft and other resources were dispatched to help with the search. An incident helicopter spotted the firefighter at 8:20 pm but could not locate an adequate landing zone. Another firefighting crew joined in the search and located the separated firefighter. Lake County Sheriff’s personnel also responded to the area and assisted with the search operation and extraction of the individual.
