Crews will continue to mop-up and look for areas to engage the fire to keep it east of the 36 Road. The night shift constructed indirect line from the 28 Road to Sycan River and prepared for a possible future burnout operation to prevent northern movement of the fire in that area. Bruler Fire Update for Sunday, July 25 (Bruler Fire Wildfire)

Sweet Home, Ore. – Firefighters continued mop-up activities near the Bruler Fire perimeter. Smoke decreased within the fire perimeter as interior fuel consume and reduce hazard, with only isolated tree torching well inside the control line. The helicopter was not used yesterday, as the fire activity remained low. The helicopter remains available for the Bruler Fire today. Containment is now listed at 44%.Today, firefighters will continue to improve established contingency line on the west side of the Bruler fire. Work will continue on the contingency line for the next few days, and will be near completion by Wednesday. As summer progresses, it is important to be ready for fire season. The two-day old, 50-acre spot fire east from the 6212 Road was active last night but crews were quick to respond. The spot fire is in mop-up status today. An overnight infrared flight over the fire revealed that the fire within containment lines is much less active than previous days.   The Sickfoot Creek area is a priority for today’s operations. Presented with several options in the difficult terrain in the area, crews are planning to go more direct here constructing line tight to the fire perimeter.  ...

Lick Creek Fire Update for July 25, 2021 (Green Ridge Fire Wildfire)

Patrolling and monitoring the fire perimeter is ongoing and smoke will continue to be visible as unburned pockets of vegetation inside the fire area are consumed. The Lick Creek Fire is now 90% contained.California Team 12, led by Mike Nobles, Incident Commander, will in-brief today in preparation of taking command of the fire Monday evening.  Command staff from the two teams will work closely together over the course of today and tomorrow to ensure a smooth transition.  After transition occurs, the Incident Command Team 12 will establish their Command Post in Dayton, Washington. Activity may increase with warmer and dryer conditions expected today. Yesterday accumulated smoke didn't completely clear out as anticipated when the inversion lifted. A similar pattern is expected today, with more smoke to start with. Expect overall conditions to be Moderate to USG in the forecast area. Elbow Creek Fire Evening Update - July 24, 2021 (Elbow Creek Wildfire)

 Wallowa, OR – The Elbow Creek fire has burned approximately 21,928 acres and is 25 percent contained. Overall, today was a successful day for firefighting operations. An inversion’s blanket of smoke suppressed fire activity and created ideal conditions for successful burnout operations from the crews. Efforts in the Elbow Creek area will continue to be prioritized, and slow burnout operations will be completed during night shift. Eric Perkins, Operations Section Chief commented, “We are very happy with where we are at.” In the southwest corner of the fire, a one-acre spot fire occurred, but was caught by a quick response from crews. Currently, the spot fire is being lined by a dozer with assistance from aerial resources. The east side of the fire continues to hold steady with mop-up operations in full swing. Fire Information: The fire is currently at 19,956 acres with 57 percent containment. The fire is burning in timber, primarily the understory, with leaf litter and brush. North of Hwy 138, fire activity continues to stay within the control line perimeter. Crews will remain patrolling the area and collecting equipment not being utilized on the fire. South of Hwy 138, on the west flank, firefighters resume patrol to ensure fire will continue to stay within containment lines. Along the southeast flank, good progress was accomplished during burnout operations which reinforces and strengthens control lines. Burning operations will resume today. Please be aware during burnout operations smoke may be visible to the public. Lick Creek Fire: Firefighters continue to patrol the perimeter of the fire looking for hot spots and mopping up as needed around the southern edge. While smoke may be visible for some time to come as pockets of vegetation well within the perimeter of the fire continue to be consumed, the depth of the containment lines allows space for remaining fuel to naturally consume without compromising the integrity of the line. Green Ridge Fire Current Situation: Hot Shots, Smokejumpers, and Wildland Fire Modules worked within the Wilderness connecting natural features with trail systems as fire lines and securing spot fires to the east and north of the fire. Air operations moved personnel as needed and dropped water or retardant to assist ground resources and keep fire spread in check. To the west, northwest, and north of the Wilderness roads are being prepared as contingency lines using masticators, dozers, and other heavy machinery. A spot fire outside the line in the Meadow Creek area grew to about 75 acres yesterday before firefighters, aided by aerial support, were able to contain it. Last night’s community meeting in Tucannon was well attended and participants were briefed on the current fire situation as well as the strategy for Green Ridge and Lick Creek Fires. Bruler Fire Update for Saturday, July 24 (Bruler Fire Wildfire)

Sweet Home, Ore. – Firefighters have added hose around the perimeter of the Bruler Fire. Work progressed on the alternative and contingency lines yesterday. Firefighters worked on adding direct line on the northwest side of the fire. The helicopter was not used yesterday, as the fire activity remained low. Containment is now listed at 25%.Today, firefighters will continue to add to established contingency line and will conduct additional cold trailing and mop up activities. Masticators and bulldozers will strengthen control lines around the fire perimeter. The Willamette National Forest issued an order yesterday banning the use of campfires within the forest boundary. The fire ban includes fires within established campground fire pits. Additionally, the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) has banned campfires east of Interstate 5 on all ODF protected lands.  Location: 28 miles northeast of Klamath Falls, OR     Size: 401,601 acres Personnel: 2224                                 Containment: 42%  (Klamath Falls, OR) –Yesterday, fireline construction progressed north from Long Creek toward Coyote Creek. The day shift was able to hold the fireline from the 400 Road to the south despite some active fire behavior that was pushing to the north and west. Night shift was able to work the area between Long Creek and Coyote Creek and construct direct fireline with dozers, hand crews, and hose lays. Crews continue to clear roads as a contingency plan above Sycan Marsh. Firefighters addressed spot fires on the northeastern flank and struggled to hold them. Burn out operations were performed from the 36 road to remove available unburned fuels to contain the spots. Elbow Creek Fire Evening Update - July 23, 2021 (Elbow Creek Wildfire)

 Wallowa, OR – The Elbow Creek fire is estimated around 20,810 acres and remains 20 percent contained. As the fire moves away from structures, Oregon State Fire Marshall (OSFM) task forces and overhead have begun being demobilized. Approximately 900 personnel remain assigned to the fire.Firefighting efforts in the northwest section (Elbow and Bear Creek area) continue to be prioritized. The Bear Creek being referred to is NOT the main Bear Creek drainage out of Wallowa. Today aerial resources deployed bucket drops to assist the Rogue-River Interagency Hotshot crew as they constructed hand lines to pinch off the head of the fire. A dozer line is being constructed on the ridgeline above the fire in this section, as well. A large smoke column, visible from the fire area, is occurring due to unburned pockets within the fire perimeter.The fire has not crossed Sickfoot Creek as crews work diligently to tie in and secure containment lines. Wallowa, OR – The Elbow Creek fire is now 20,810 acres and remains 20 percent contained. Close to 900 personnel are currently assigned to the fire with resources from Washington, Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, Michigan, California, Oregon, South Carolina, and Idaho. The most challenging area remains the confluence of drainages merging with the Grande Ronde River. Firefighters are being supported by several helicopters in the Elbow and Bear Creek areas as they work to pinch the fire off with the construction of hand line. Crews continue to tie in and secure containment lines in the Sickfoot Creek area. Dozer and handlines get stronger daily and firefighters are hopeful to secure the area today and transition to full mop-up operations. Sweet Home, Ore. – Firefighters have made progress in completing the alternate and contingency lines around the Bruler Fire perimeter. Sprinklers are effective and are reducing fire activity along the fire perimeter. Containment is now listed at 20%. Today, firefighters will continue to add to established contingency line and will conduct additional mop up activities. Fire Information: The fire is currently at 19,949 acres with 56 percent containment. The fire is burning in timber, primarily the understory, with leaf litter and brush. North of Hwy 138, firefighters will resume operations of patrolling and mop up. Crews may be falling any existing hazard trees (snags) along the control line for safety measures. South of Hwy 138, along the east flank, crews will continue to use mechanical equipment and handline crews to construct and improve control lines in the Twin Lakes area. On the southeast flank, burn operations will begin. In addition, fire crews will scout for alternate locations for line construction.
