Lick Creek Fire Update for July 23, 2021 (Lick Creek (Dry Gulch) Fire Wildfire)
Community fire information meeting tonight at Last Resort store and campground near Tucannon at 7 pm. Lick Creek Fire: Firefighters are focused on patrol and continue to mop up the southern portion of the fire perimeter. Pockets of vegetation burning further in from the perimeter may cause smoke, but this does not pose a threat to the containment lines. The acreage increase is due to interior burning. The footprint of the fire remains the same. Suppression repair will occur as resources are available.Weather and Smoke Information: A warm and dry trend will start today and is expected to continue through the weekend. Green Ridge Fire Current Situation: Firefighters within the Wilderness worked to extinguish spot fires and slow, or check, the growth of the fire toward the east. Helicopters dropped retardant to assist firefighters on the ground. Crews scouted road 300 towards the Slick Ear area and road 64 for possible containment lines. Location: 28 miles northeast of Klamath Falls, OR Size: 400,389 acres Personnel: 2389 Containment: 40% (Klamath Falls, OR) – The Oregon State Fire Marshall Incident Management Team has transitioned to working with Zone 2 on the north and northeast sections of the fire. Yesterday, the fireline into Long Creek was improved with hose lay and overnight firefighters were able to begin constructing direct line between Long Creek and Coyote Creek. Crews continue to work on the contingency lines in the northern portion of the fire above Sycan Marsh. Fire activity picked up in the eastern portion of the fire and spotted over Forest Service Road 2901. Last night crews and equipment worked using natural barriers and changes in fuel to contain the spot and protect the Summer Lake community. Bootleg Fire Information Media Inquiries: (971) 727-7255 July 22, 2021 Bootleg firefighters test positive for COVID-19 Lakeview, Ore.- Incident Management Teams are working closely with local public health and Oregon Health Authority’s investigation into several positive cases of COVID-19 among resources working on the Bootleg Fire. Nine individuals have tested positive. In accordance with protocols developed in partnership with the Oregon Health Authority for the 2020 fire season, individuals reporting symptoms and those who worked closely with them are tested and isolated until results are received. Those who test positive are quarantined away from the fire camp. Due to the number of positive cases, this will be reported to OHA as a workplace outbreak, and updates on the number of positive cases associated with this outbreak will be included in OHA’s COVID-19 weekly report, which is issued every Wednesday. Fire Update for July 22 am (Elbow Creek Wildfire)
Wallowa, OR – The Elbow Creek fire, now at 19,993 acres, is moving up the ranks in priority across the region and orders for crews and other resources are being filled. Twelve new crews arrived yesterday evening and the fire now has resources from Washington, Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, Michigan, California, Oregon, and Idaho. As additional personnel arrive more objectives are being met, giving firefighters the ability to plan ahead and make changes to suppression techniques. The most active area of the fire remains in the Elbow Creek Drainage near the confluence of the Grande Ronde River. This particular area is central to the intersection of several canyons that produce erratic winds from all directions. Steep slopes along Indian Ridge and Grossman Creek are challenging as firefighters continue to establish hand and dozer lines. Grandview Fire Update, July 22 Central Oregon – The Grandview Fire burning northeast of Sisters on private lands protected by Oregon Department of Forestry and the Crooked River National Grassland is now 95% contained at 6,032 acres. A Central Oregon Management Service Type 4 Incident Management Team under the command of Luke Garcia is now managing the Grandview Fire. Crews will continue to mop-up the fire perimeter until it is fully contained. This will be the last daily update until containment is reached. The Grandview Fire was reported at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, July 11th, burning on lands protected by Oregon Department of Forestry and on the Crooked River National Grassland. Green Ridge Fire Current Situation: Structure protection measures have been completed around recreation residences at Little Turkey Tail and the Godman Guard station. Road systems have been prepared for burnout operations to the west of the fire along the 46 road. From the Panjab area north of the fire, fireline and hose lays have been constructed, connecting fireline from Meadow creek drainage to the 4022 road north of the Wilderness. On the east side of the fire, in the Wilderness, firefighters are slowing the spread of the fire with aerial support. About 50,000 gallons of retardant and more than 30 flight hours with four helicopters were part of yesterday’s operations. Firefighters are implementing a strategy to the north and east of the fire that considers the highest probability of success given the current limited availability of the specialized resources as well as the terrain and burning conditions. Safety on Hwy 138: For the safety of firefighters and the public, please follow posted speed limits. Be aware of potential speed limit changes along Hwy. 138 due to increased fire traffic. Fire Information: The fire is currently at 19,643 acres with 55% containment. The fire is burning in timber, primarily the understory and leaf litter, and brush. North of Hwy 138, firefighters continue to successfully keep the fire perimeter within control lines. Mop up and patrolling of fire containment lines will resume. South of Hwy 138, crews along the west flank will be monitoring fire behavior to ensure fire remains within the control lines and will conduct burning operations where necessary. On the southeast and east portion of the fire, crews will work with heavy equipment to prepare control lines for potential burning operations. This lightning sparked fire was reported as a small smoke, white in color, and estimated as a ¼ acre in size on Fuego Mountain by the Spodue Fire Lookout Owen Fabrio-Emanual. The smoke and fire grew rapidly in intensity. Owen stated, “The fire behavior was extreme within five minutes of the first report. The fire had jumped into the crowns and trees began torching within the first 30 minutes.” Owen had reported multiple other fires since he started his lookout duties this June but he could tell that this fire behaved different than others.
