Lick Creek and Green Ridge Fire Updates – July 28, 2021 – 9:30 a.m. Tonight at 7:00 p.m. there is a community meeting at the Dayton Fairgrounds 5 N. Pine St., Dayton. Given stable internet service this meeting will be live streamed on the Green Ridge Fire Facebook page for those who cannot attended in person. If there are connectivity issues, the meeting will be recorded and uploaded immediately following. Please feel free to send in any questions through Facebook Live. Lick Creek Fire: The Lick Creek Fire remains at 90% contained. Continued smoke will be visible as unburned pockets of vegetation inside the fire area are consumed. Crews will continue to monitor and patrol the perimeter until full containment is achieved. Green Ridge Fire Current Situation: Recent burn operations were successful and provided a blackened edge of fire as an anchor point for crews to extend construction of containment lines along portions of the fire perimeter. Bootleg Update July 28, 2021   Location: 28 miles northeast of Klamath Falls, OR     Size: 413,400 acres Personnel: 1,924                                 Containment: 53%  (Klamath Falls, OR) – The west side of the fire received steady, light rain that allowed more direct attack on the fire’s edge yesterday and overnight. The rain significantly moderated fire behavior. Fine fuels are most affected by the moisture, although larger diameter fuels are still critically dry. Some isolated torching occurred yesterday in heavy fuels, but spotting was much reduced. On the east side of the fire, crews continued to mop up after the spot fire from yesterday. With the added moisture they have no concerns about that area today. The Oregon National Guard crews are working on the east flank of the fire area to secure the perimeter and put out any hot spots. Crews are completing lines on the fire perimeter near...

Elbow Creek Fire Evening Update - July 27, 2021 (Elbow Creek Wildfire)

Note: The fire will be providing one daily update each morning moving forward. Wallowa, OR – The Elbow Creek Fire has burned 22,790 acres and is 38 percent contained. More water tenders are being ordered to assist with mop-up operations. These will arrive through tonight and tomorrow. The Elbow Creek Drainage continues to be the focus on the fire. Burnout operations on the east side of the creek, that occurred today, are being monitored to make sure lines are secure. Further west, crews are still finding and catching small spot fires. On the north side of the river, steady development was made on contingency roads, specifically in the northwest corner. Crews will continue to work on the 62 and 6220 roads tomorrow. A hot spot was discovered and caught on the east branch of Sickfoot Creek on the south side of the Grande Ronde River. Crews also continue to monitor and mop-up the Duckworth Drainage. Bruler Fire Update for Tuesday, July 27 (Bruler Fire Wildfire)

Sweet Home, Ore. – The Bruler Fire did not experience significant fire activity yesterday. Firefighters made steady progress with mop up operations around the perimeter. The helicopter was not used yesterday, as the fire activity remained low. The helicopter remains available for the Bruler Fire today. Containment is now listed at 53%.Today, firefighters will continue to improve established contingency line on the west side of the Bruler fire. Mop up will continue along the fire perimeter and work on the contingency line will continue for the foreseeable future. Today marks the final day Northwest Incident Management Team 13 will manage the Bruler Fire. Control of the fire will be transferred to a Type 3 Incident Management Team from the Willamette National Forest. The team will maintain communication with the public through the Bruler Fire Facebook page, Inciweb and through the Sweet Home Ranger Station front desk. Fire Information: The Jack fire is currently at 21,881 acres with 59 percent containment. The fire is burning in leaf litter, timber understory and brush. Steep, rugged terrain continues to be a challenge for fire operations causing some areas to be inaccessible. North of Hwy 138, firefighters continue to mop up and patrol operations to maintain fire activity within control lines.Crews south of Hwy 138, along the east and west flanks, continue to secure control lines by patrolling and mop up. Preparation work will resume on the 4770 road along the east as a contingency plan. On the south end of the fire, firefighters are treating green fuels with water systems. With cooler weather forecasted over the next few days and as conditions allow, burn operations along the southeast flank will be conducted to remove heavy fuels. Wallowa, OR – The Elbow Creek Fire is approximately 22,790 acres and 32 percent contained. More firefighting personnel and equipment arrived today, filling all fire line resource needs.The Elbow Creek area continues to be the focus for firefighters. Crews continue to suppress spot fires in the area and tie a short section of containment line together. Tonight, the priority is finishing the last bit of burnouts.Due to the incredible work of our firefighters, fire progression has been stopped in the Sickfoot Creek drainage. The focus here will now transition to mop-up operations. To the east of Sickfoot, in the southern corner of the fire perimeter, a couple of minor spot fires were caught today. These have been taken care of but reminds crews to stay diligent, even in times of stable fire conditions.The conditions on the east side of the fire have not changed. Fire Information: The Jack fire is burning in steep, rugged terrain with some areas inaccessible to fire crews. Fire activity remains within the containment lines north of Hwy 138. Patrol and mop up operations will continue north of Hwy 138. The fire is currently at 21,609 acres with 58 percent containment. South of Hwy 138, firefighters continue to have success containing fire activity within the control lines along the western flank. Crews on the south end of the fire will prep control lines for possible burning operations and scout for alternative line. On the eastern flank crews successfully extinguished small spot fires near the control line and plan to improve existing handline along the Twin Lakes road. Bruler Fire Update for Monday, July 26 (Bruler Fire Wildfire)

Sweet Home, Ore. – The Bruler Fire received an infrared flight yesterday, showing the areas of heat within the fire perimeter. Firefighters were able to focus mop up on portions of the fire that registered heat. This tactic ensures firefighters are setting up the next incident management team for success. The helicopter was not used yesterday, as the fire activity remained low. The helicopter remains available for the Bruler Fire today. Containment is now listed at 47%. Today, firefighters will continue to improve established contingency line on the southwest side of the Bruler fire. Mop up will continue on the contingency line for the next few days. Experience has shown that homes with defensible space, free of flammable fuels, can often survive a wildfire.  Defensible space later offers firefighters the advantage of extra room to operate equipment to safely reach and extinguish any active fire.  Wallowa, OR – The Elbow Creek fire is reporting as 22,681 acres and 28 percent contained. More resources will continue to arrive through this evening and tomorrow morning.Another successful day on the line; all operations went according to plan. Primarily, efforts were focused on mopping up deeper into the fire perimeter and strengthening contingency lines around the fire. Last night’s burn out at the top of Elbow Creek was a great success. Smoke is visible this evening as some large pockets of unburned fuel consume within the Elbow Creek Drainage. The east side of the fire remains stable and continues to be mopped-up and patrolled. The spot fire that occurred multiple days ago remains in mop-up status as well. The same operational plans are in place for tomorrow. A fire behavior analyst joined crews in the field today to help evaluate operational plans for the Sickfoot Area. After assessment, overhead has agreed to continue to utilize direct attack up against the fire’s edge....

Fire Information: The fire is currently at 21,503 acres with 57 percent containment. The fire is burning in timber, primarily the understory, with leaf litter and brush. The Jack fire is burning in steep rugged terrain making some areas inaccessible to firefighters and resistant to containment. Fire personnel had another successful day of containing fire activity within control lines north of Hwy 138. Firefighters continue to patrol this area and mop up along containment lines where needed. South of Hwy 138, crews will resume use of mechanical equipment along the eastern flank to reinforce control lines. On the southeast section of the fire, firefighters improved handline within the Twin lakes area and will conduct assessments today to identify possible strategies to strengthen containment lines.
