Fire Update for Sunday, August 22, 2021 Fire Information: 503-867-7924 Overall Objective: The Rough Patch Complex and Jack Fire are being managed under a full suppression strategy using containment and confinement tactics to minimize fire spread to prevent loss of valuable resources. Leaders’ intent is to not allow the fire to progress to the west and to protect private structures throughout the fire area by using the PACE model – Primary, Alternate, Contingency and Emergency control Lines and to keep the fires as small as possible while working toward full containment. Middle Fork Complex Fire Update – Saturday, August 21, 2021 – 9:00 am In preparation for transitioning command of the Middle Fork Complex on Sunday morning, Pacific Northwest Team 3 is working closely with the incoming Type 2 team (Northwest Incident Management Team 13) to share information about fire suppression strategy and efforts that have taken place over the course of the past weeks. Kwis Fire: Continued good work has brought the Kwis Fire to 90 percent containment. Firefighters continue to hold containment lines, and mop-up and patrol is ongoing. Crews remain vigilant, monitoring areas where smoke is visible from the large trees, stumps, or downed logs that are burning well within the perimeter. Residents can expect to see smoke for several days, even weeks, depending on weather. Lakeview, OR- Wildland crews on the Patton Meadow Fire are focused on completing burnout and mop up operations. Favorable wind conditions overnight allowed crews to make good progress on burnout operations on the fire’s north end, while the west, south, and east perimeters of the fire are focused on mop up and reconfirming the extent to which the fire has been completely extinguished within the fire’s perimeter.A detailed explanation of the burnout operation process was covered in last night’s Facebook Live Information meeting. Smoke DiscussionToday, cloud cover and cooler temperatures will continue supporting reduced fire activity and smoke emissions. West of the Cascades, Good air quality is likely for locations around and in between Eugene, Springfield, Cottage Grove, Lowell and McKenzie Bridge. Some haze may be present in the afternoon but won't have any major impacts on the forecast. Communities around Oakridge can expect overall Good air quality conditions with periods of Moderate possible throughout the day. East of the Cascades communities around Bend can expect Good air quality with short periods of Moderate possible midday into the afternoon. La Pine, which has been consistently under heavy smoke, should see some relief today. Overall, La Pine and surrounding areas will have Good air quality early. Bureau of Land Management Amends Emergency Closure to Open Scaredman Campground Roseburg, Ore. – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Roseburg District has issued an amended emergency closure on BLM administered-public lands near the Rough Patch Complex Fire. The reduction in the closure area to the Francis Creek road restores access to the Scaredman Recreation Area and Campground. The Scaredman campground will open on Monday, August 23, 2021, for reservations through Recreation.gov. Affected Area: BLM road 24-1-26 (Francis Creek) from the junction with BLM road 25-1E-31 (Canton Creek Road) North to the Roseburg District Boundary in Township 24 South Range 1 West Section 1 will remain as closed. Forest Road 28 is temporarily impassible (Devil's Knob Complex Wildfire)
Forest Road 28 is temporarily impassible between Dumont Creek on the south and continuing north to the 2719 road. This is due to debris rolling out from slopes above and damage caused by the Smith Fire. Umpqua National Forest crews will be working to clear the road as soon as possible. However, an estimated time for reopening is not yet known.The roads and area otherwise remain closed as part of the Forest fire closure, except for residents and landowners who have legal access. Skyline Ridge Complex Update for Friday, August 20, 2021 (This will be the last regularly scheduled update for the Skyline Ridge Complex. Additional updates may be released as needed). CANYONVILLE, Ore. – Early Friday morning, ODF Incident Management Team 1 transitioned command of the Skyline Ridge Complex back to a local Type 3 organization that is being led jointly by the Douglas Forest Protective Association and the Bureau of Land Management. This local Type 3 organization will oversee the efforts on the Skyline Ridge Complex from this point forward. The fire camp that was located in Tri-City near Exit 103 has been closed and the resources that remain assigned to the Skyline Ridge Complex will move into the fire camp in Milo that is housing resources for the Devils Knob Complex.
