Middle Fork Complex Smoke Outlook Report Aug 26 (Middle Fork Complex Wildfire)

August 26, 2021 - 10:38am
Fire and WeatherThe Middle Fork Complex is now at 16,950 acres and is 10% contained. The upper level disturbance moved through yesterday, bringing westerly winds, cooler temperatures and a bit higher humidity overnight. Winds are expected to be from the east/southeast until mid-morning, then west/northwest for the remainder of the day. Fuels are dry, and drought conditions have pushed live fuels into dormancy, adding to the fuel load. Fire can be expected to creep through large fuels with occasional flare-ups where fuels have been preheating. Single tree/group torching is possible. Fire behavior will be fuels driven, and can be expected to increase in activity where winds and slope align. Today, burning operations will continue in the northern extent of the Gale/Nine Mile Fire to reinforce control lines. Mop-up operations continue on the Kwis Fire.SmokeAir quality in Oakridge and Cascara is registering Good this morning. There is a band of smoke caught between inversion layers at...

Middle Fork Complex Update for Thursday, Aug 26 (Middle Fork Complex Wildfire)

August 26, 2021 - 8:56am
WESTFIR, Ore. – As alternate and contingency lines are completed, firefighters are using ground and aerial means of ignition to strengthen and reinforce them around the Gales Fire footprint.Specially-equipped Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS)   or drones – can be used to strategically ignite vegetation, collect infrared images that show the location and intensity of fire activity, and for real-time reconnaissance of terrain too rough or otherwise dangerous for firefighters on foot.UAS pilots are highly trained and work as part of the overall aviation operations on an incident, just like helicopters and air tankers. Unauthorized use of a UAS interferes with aerial operations causing manned and unmanned aircraft to be grounded. Remember if you fly, we can’t!On the Kwis Fire, crews will mop up the fire line to a 100-foot depth around the fire boundary to ensure containment before the incident is returned to the Willamette National Forest’s...

August 26 Daily Update (Bull Complex Wildfire)

August 26, 2021 - 8:38am
Great Basin Type 2 Incident Management Team #4 Bull Complex Fire UpdateThursday, 26 August 2021 Contact Fire Information:  971.277.5075 or 2021.Bull@firenet.gov https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/7773/ #BullComplex https://www.facebook.com/mthoodnf or https://twitter.com/mthoodnf Yesterday, the Bull Complex grew approximately 300 acres.  It is progressing in a slow and steady manner, which allows fire managers time to develop and implement plans for containment in areas where the probability of success is higher and it will be safer for firefighters to work along the fire perimeter. On the southwestern portion of the fire perimeter, near the headwaters of Humbug Creek, firefighters continue to light small strategic fires parallel to the main fire to lower intensity and slow the fire’s progress towards desired containment lines along the ridge that divides the Mt. Hood and Willamette National Forests.  The fire is approaching these containment lines.  Once firefighters gain...

Middle Fork Complex Smoke Outlook Report 8/25 (Middle Fork Complex Wildfire)

August 25, 2021 - 11:07am
Smoke cover helped moderate fire activity yesterday, but it also hampered air quality. Firing operations along the north end of the fire contributed to smoke accumulation, along with the smoke generated by fire activity in general. The effect was smoke continuing to accumulate in valleys through the day until late afternoon, especially in the Cascara and Oakridge areas. Air quality registered Hazardous for a few hours in Cascara, Oakridge saw Very Unhealthy. We expect similar conditions to develop today. This morning’s inversion will keep smoke fairly settled in valley bottoms again today, particularly in the vicinity of Cascara. Best to get your outdoor activities completed before noon.   Fire and Weather The Middle Fork Complex is now at 16,527 acres and is 10% contained. Temperatures are expected to be a bit cooler today, with slightly higher relative humidity. It will be a tad windier, but likely not enough to move smoke around much. Fire activity was moderated yesterday due...

Lakeview, OR- Containment on the Patton Meadow Fire is now at 70%. Crews are gridding the fire’s perimeter and increasing the rind by digging out and applying water to hot spots. The majority of containment efforts are along the north perimeter of the fire along Cottonwood Road. Several additional crews have been assigned to accelerate the mop up activities in this area. Fallers are working ahead of crews to remove hazard trees for the safety of hand crews performing mop up operations.Along the west, south, and east perimeters, mop up efforts continue further into the black to meet containment objectives. Crews continue to grid the green to locate any spot fires outside the fire perimeter. In areas where containment is complete, efforts are ramping up to remove hose lays and repair areas impacted by fire containment efforts. Unneeded equipment will be hauled off the fire line. As the firefighting effort winds down, more crews will be demobilizing and heading home or onto other fire...

Middle Fork Complex Update for Wednesday, Aug 25 (Middle Fork Complex Wildfire)

August 25, 2021 - 9:40am
WESTFIR, Ore. – Resources across the Middle Fork Complex shared a moment of silence Tuesday morning in memory of fallen firefighter Frumencio Ruiz Carapia. “The wildland firefighting community and our partners mourn this loss,” said Incident Commander Brian Gales of Northwest 13 Incident Management Team. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.”  Ruiz Carapia died Monday afternoon after being struck by a falling tree while working along the eastern edge of the Gales Fire, according to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office.  A swing shift was added yesterday to take advantage of cooler temperatures and higher humidities for strategic ignitions along the northern edge of the Gales-Ninemile Fire. Warmer daytime temperatures and lower humidity stimulated interior burning in the Tiller, Black and Fall Creek areas Tuesday, which is expected to continue today.  Safety: Archery deer and elk season begin Saturday, Aug. 28. A large part of McKenzie Unit 19 lies within fire...
