Effective September 22, 2017 at 12:30pm, level three evacuation notices were downgraded to level two for the Boulder Creek and Salmon La Sac areas of the Cle Elum Valley. Due to the future potential of fire activity increase, and hazard trees which could impact the Salmon La Sac road, the road barricade staffed with security personnel will remain in place just north of the French Cabin Creek/FR 4308 Road junction of the Salmon La Sac road. Fire fighters continue to secure this piece of fire line perimeter of hazard trees and improve depth in mop up of the fires edge in the vicinity, so public traffic exposure increases risk to them when working along this stretch of road. For that reason there will continue to be limited traffic access (area landowners only).

Approximate Fire Size: 48,668 acres Approximate Fire Containment: 46% Summary: Fire activity has been minimal due to cooler temperatures and rain. Over the last four days anywhere from 3.5” to 6” of rain fell over the fire area, with heavier rains over the western portion of the fire.Current activities include resource and condition assessments as well as planning and implementing suppression repair efforts. Heavy equipment is on site to assist with repair efforts. Much of this work is dependent on ground conditions as there is the potential to do further damage if heavy machinery operates in extremely wet and muddy terrain. Meanwhile handcrews are “low stumping” and cleaning up large woody debris. Plans include potentially building hand line as a contingency closer to the fire’s eastern edge. Summary: Crews were back on the line Thursday, Sept. 21, evaluating and implementing rehab plans for the Spruce Lake, Blanket Creek and North Pelican Fires. Several excavators arrived at the Incident Command Post on Thursday and will begin work today repairing dozer lines as soil conditions allow. With scattered rain showers and high relative humidity (RH) levels reducing fire activity over the last several days, fire crews have continue to conduct patrols identifying areas for suppression repair while continuing mop up operations. Slash chipping and equipment recovery have become the primary focus of fire crews as they begin the process of returning containment lines to their previously natural states. Fire suppression repair is a major concern after every wildfire. Left disturbed, containment lines can affect natural drainages causing soil erosion, stunting natural vegetation recovery, damaging fish habitats, and reducing water quality. Repair crews work to limit these effects through a variety of techniques, including the installation of water bars. Water bars divert the flow of rain or run off and prevent the water from carving channels through the recently disturbed soil.
