With the weather forecast this week it is unlikely that there will be new ignition of pile units on the northern half of the forest. Emigrant Creek Ranger District is going to attempt ignitions in Curry project area today. You may continue to see smoke from pile units lit over the past couple weeks. If the forest were to proceed with lighting additional units, it would occur in areas where previous ignitions have occurred. This will be weather dependent.

The Miller Complex experienced significant rainfall on Thursday, with amounts ranging from 0.87 inches in Dutch Creek to 1.21 inches just south of the fire in California. Winds that peaked Wednesday night have gradually diminished but the rain is continuing today. Moderate to strong and gusty south winds will begin coming from the west-northwest this evening according to the National Weather Service. Locally heavy precipitation may occur this evening and tonight. Steep areas that have been burned severely could possibly experience debris flows. Snow level will remain around 4500 feet. Freezing temperatures will be experienced at the ridgetops all day; lower elevations will reach 45 degrees. Ridgetop winds will be WSW 10-20 mph with gusts 20-30 mph. Several crews and engines were demobilized today. Others were assigned to maintain a safety standby with a 2-hour call-back requirement as fire supervisors survey the effects of the storm on roads, fire-damaged trees, and the (previously)...

The entire fire area received over an inch and a half of rain by the evening of 10/19 with more forecasted through the weekend. The rain will help to extinguish the remaining areas of heat scattered within the perimeter of the fire. However, fire officials will continue to monitor the fire closely as the thick canopy in some areas could shelter heat sources allowing them to pop back up when the area begins to dry out. Firefighters and equipment are returning to the field after a day of standing down for safety concerns due to the weather. The Chetco Bar Fire transitioned from a Type 3 to a Type 4 organization this morning at 7:00 a.m. After a day of working closely together to ensure a smooth transition, Type 3 Incident Commander, Kris Schroeder, handed command of the fire to Type 4 Incident Commander, Rich Reneau. All pertinent field personnel and equipment will remain in place and continue to mop up and monitor the fire closely, work on the Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) identified projects, grade roads, and finalize any remaining suppression repair work. Fire officials flew the fire yesterday and observed minimal fire behavior. The Wheeler Creek drainage was producing some smoke from leaf fueled smoldering ground fire and one small smoke in the Mt. Emily area was seen. Today, firefighters will work to extinguish areas of heat and remove hazard trees in the Wheeler Creek drainage, along the FR240 Road.
