Evening update 9/14/20 (Cold Springs Wildfire)

 Omak, WA – Today the crews made additional progress on the fire line. They continued to secure the northeast portion of the fire, worked in the mill area, and secured in from the containment lines. There are several areas of the fire that are in patrol status and those areas are looking good. The repairs to fencing and roads that were damaged during initial attack are being looked at and repaired. Crews will continue assisting the power companies with hazard trees near the power lines to make their work areas safe. Commissioner of Public Lands Hillary Franz visited the Cold Springs Fire command post in Omak. The Commissioner met with Tribal, Federal, State and local officials.  Los dos incendios Pearl Hill y Apple Acres están casi contenido después de muchos días de luchando estos incendios.  El humo pesado está haciendo sombra sobre los incendios y el compartamiento de los incendios es mínimo.    Impactos a Estructuras:  Los bomberos locales han protegido 100 casas directamente entre el área del incendio.  Además, más de un mil de  casas son protegido porque los bomberos se pararon el adelanto del incendio.  Hasta ahora, 26 estructuras son quemados pero los oficiales continúan a evaluar la situación   Recursos:  Mientras una esfuerza de los bomberos han retenido aquí, muchos bomberos y equipos están siendo reasignados a otros incendios o a sus hogares para descanso.  La prueba Covid-19 están disponibles para los bomberos y para las seguridades des sus familias.   El Clima: La calidad de aire sigue estando gravemente afectado por humo que viene de los incendios en Oregon y California.  Aire peligroso a salud le queda en esta...

             Thielsen Fire Update September 14, 2020   Overview: Tuesday, September 8th, 2020, at approximately 8:30 AM, firefighters responded to a wildfire in the Mount Thielsen Wilderness. The fire began in the tree line near the Pacific Crest Trail within the Diamond Lake Ranger District. The east wind event caused the fire to run northwest and jump Highway 138 E. The Southern Area Incident Management Gray Team arrived Saturday, September 12th, to transition command from local resources on the Umpqua National Forest and give local units time to rest so they can respond to new fires. Current Situation: Due to current weather conditions and smoke inversion over the local area, fire activity has moderated and has provided firefighters a great opportunity to gain ground in preparation and containment efforts.  Fire Summary:Last night an infrared flight was able to capture the fires hot spots. Today crews will focus on extinguishing those as well as focusing on mop-ping up around the perimeter. “Everyday we’ll get a little deeper and a little deeper into the fire's perimeter” states Operations Section Chief, John Pelliser. Yesterday we did not get the wind event that forecasters predict-ed. But nonetheless crews are working hard to reinforce lines and secure areas with a lot of heat. Today’s forecast calls for a Red Flag Warning from noon to 9 pm today. We will be holding our third Facebook live virtual community meeting tonight at 7 pm. Both the Pearl Hill and Apple Acres fires are approaching fullcontainment after days of firefighting effort, recently aided byshading from the heavy smoke layer. Structure impacts: Since the Labor Day fire start, localfirefighters have directly protected about 100 residences fromburning within the perimeter of these two fires. The overall firesuppression effort kept an additional 1,000+ homes from harmby stopping the advance of the fire. To date, 26 residential andcommercial structures have been verified as burned by the fireand additional assessments are underway. Resources: While a sufficient force of firefighters is beingretained, many firefighters and crews are being reassigned orsent home for some well-earned, if temporary, rest. Springfield, Ore. –“Big iron stops fires, reinforced by the precision of crews digging hand lines,” said Jason Pettigrew, Operations Section Chief on ODF Incident Management Team 3. This describes a good part of the suppression strategy being taken on the Holiday Farm Fire. The fire team is using bull dozers and other heavy equipment to construct control lines across large portions of the fire perimeter. Where the ground is too steep or rocky, fire fighters build hand lines to stitch together a solid perimeter of control lines. Structural crews continue to mop up hot spots around homes.   Solid work by fire fighters combined with favorable weather conditions have led the Lane and Linn County Sheriffs to lower the evacuation levels in several areas. PNW Incident Management Team #12 will be holding a virtual community meeting on the Gifford Pinchot Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/GiffordPinchot on Tuesday September 15 at 5:00 PM. The meeting will be streamed via Facebook Live on the Gifford Pinchot Facebook page.The team will be giving an update to the current situation of the fire, as well as the current and predicted weather, fire behavior, and the leader’s intent from the incident commanders. Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs P-515 & Lionshead Fire Update – Monday, September 14, 2020 – 9:00 a.m. Weather and Fire Behavior: Today, the dense smoke cover will begin to disperse, continuing through the week as the area experiences a transition in weather. Slightly stronger southwest winds are expected along ridges and in valleys, which may align with terrain to contribute to fire movement. Temperatures will remain in the 70s, but with higher relative humidity levels of 25 to 35 percent. Very active surface fire is anticipated along the northern perimeter of the fire with torching and spotting likely. Some precipitation is expected later in the week.  Current Situation: On Monday morning the Evacuation Level for Sidwalter Flats has been raised to a Level 2 - “be SET to go at a moment’s notice.” Also, Simnasho residents are in a Level 1 - “be aware there is a fire in the area and be READY.” The priority on the Lionshead Fire today is protecting life and...
