Jones Fire Update September 14 2017 (Jones Fire Wildfire)
Jones Fire Camp is completely moved to Dexter State Recreation Site. Access and use of the popular South Bank Fishing Area is closed. The closure point is at the existing entrance to the Dexter State Recreation Site off of State Highway 58. We would like to remind the public to expect additional fire traffic congestion in this area. The Team appreciates the public support for the firefighting efforts and the partnership with the Oregon Parks and Recreation and the surrounding communities. Cooler temperatures and higher relative humidity values helped firefighting efforts yesterday. Actions yesterday included numerous helicopter water drops on the active fire areas in the southeast corner. Work continued on the preparation of a contingency line in that area. Today’s cooler temperatures and higher relative humidity values will assist our fire efforts. Portions of the fire on the south and west side are in patrol and monitor status. Forest Road 1825 and containment lines to the east...
FIRE UPDATE: Thursday, September 14 (East Crater Fire Wildfire)
FIRE UPDATE: Thursday, September 14, 2017 at 10:00 am EAST CRATER FIRE INFORMATION: 509 395-3360 East Crater Fire (Indian Heaven Wilderness), Mount Adams Ranger District, Gifford Pinchot National Forest EAST CRATER FIRE: Low humidity and east winds on Wednesday helped fuel an increase in the size of the fire by approximately 20 acres, moving the fire towards the eastern edge of the wilderness boundary. Late afternoon helicopter water bucket drops helped checked the spread of the fire. Resources from the East Crater Fire also responded yesterday to a .2 acre fire near Eckhart Point, approximately nine miles northwest of Trout Lake off of Forest Road 23. That fire was controlled by early evening. Late Wednesday a six person engine crew and two fallers arrived to support the East Crater fire suppression efforts. Gusty winds this afternoon may push the fire towards indirect lines on Forest Road 6035, east of the wilderness. Fire managers have planned for this...
Burn Out Operations Near Herman Creek and Shellrock Mountain (Eagle Creek Fire Wildfire)
Burn out operations are beginning between Herman Creek and Shellrock Mountain. We'll be using aerial ignition, a tactic used in burn operations when it is unsafe to put firefighters on the ground. Plastic Spherical Dispenser (PSD) balls (about the size of ping pong balls) are injected with an oxidizing agent and ethylene glycol-based antifreeze that causes an exothermic chemical reaction at the time of release. This process provides a reliable auto-ignition with a consistent time delay, allowing the PSDs to reach the ground before ignition. In addition to helping keep our firefighters safe, PSDs are a valuable tool to straighten edges of a fire, provide additional depth in specific areas and are great for steep country where we want fire to back down slopes with low intensity.

Desolation fire holds through the night (Desolation Fire Wildfire)
Central Oregon – The Desolation fire stayed within planned containment lines through yesterday evening’s gusty winds as firefighters worked through the day and into the night to keep the fire north of Highway 26 and protect adjacent private residences. An overnight infrared flight mapped the fire at 1,568 acres and showed that most of yesterday’s fire growth occurred to the north and still within Mill Creek Wilderness. The fire is still 0 percent contained. A Level 2 evacuation notice remains in effect for residents in the Mark’s Creek area. The Level 2 evacuation urges residents to stay alert and be prepared to leave if the need arises. Around 195 firefighters are assigned to the fire and will continue working today on completing burnout operations along Forest Road 200, between the fire and private homes along Highway 26, with plans to continue northeast along Forest Roads 250 and 300 toward Cortez Creek. Crews with logging equipment will also continue working along...

HIgh Cascades West Zone update for Sept. 14 (High Cascades Complex Wildfire)
An Army strike team of 70 infantry personnel from Joint Base Lewis-McChord (WA) is adding its muscle to the prep work being done along forest roads around the Broken Lookout Fire. Work to be performed includes brushing, chipping and extending water lines to prepare for a more direct attack on the fire’s east-facing flank. To prepare soldiers for this type of assignment, the Devils Canyon (WY) Type 2 Initial Attack Crew was embedded in the unit earlier in the season. Helicopters will continue focusing their efforts in the Squaw Creek drainage, where northwest winds are pushing the fire southward toward Donegan Creek. The primary carrier of fire in this area has been “goat’s beard” lichen, which hangs from evergreens and is easily spread by light winds. On the Pup Fire, ground crews are working to reinforce Forest Road 6520 where a finger of the fire is moving south/southeast toward the Douglas-Jackson County line. Low humidity at higher elevations could affect...
Eagle Creek Briefing Transcript and Link to Video on Facebook (Eagle Creek Fire Wildfire)
https://www.facebook.com/EagleCreekandIndianCreekFires2017/videos/123400471650802/Video Briefing TranscriptGood morning, Rick Miller here with your operational update for the day. Yesterday was a pretty active fire day. And I'll start with the fire activity and where the fire ended up after yesterday's burn period and last night's, and then go into what we've done. The majority of the growth that transpired was out here on the east end, all within the kind of gorge steep sloped area yesterday. So the fire has made it into Lindsey Creek pm the east side and is perched up right above Shell Rock and was very active all day, most of the night, as well as it is backing down the slope toward Wyeth, if you're aware of where that's at. Fire has reached the power lines right above Wyeth as of about an hour ago [6:30 a.m.] and so the majority of the growth yesterday was all that country burning. Coming around to the south there continued to be some growth up by Wahtum Lake, pretty slow moving...
