The west side community meeting will be held today, Tuesday, September 12, at 6:00 p.m. at the Williams Elementary School located at 20691 Williams Hwy, Williams, OR 97544. The eastside community meeting will be held Wednesday, September 13 at 6:00 p.m. at the Applegate Valley Fire Station #9 1095 Upper Applegate Road Jacksonville, OR 97530. Current Situation: Team operations continue to meet fire objectives, adjusting plans based on available resources and changing weather conditions. Temporary trail and campground closure for Desolation fire (Desolation Fire Wildfire)

PRINEVILLE, Ore. – The Ochoco National Forest issued a temporary closure order today for a hiking trail and campground in Mill Creek Wilderness to promote public safety while fire crews fight the Desolation fire. The order temporarily prohibits public use of Wildcat Trail #833 and Whistler Campground. See attached map. The Forest will reopen the trail and campground to the public as soon as it’s deemed safe to do so. The Desolation fire is currently estimated at 300 acres in size, burning in patches of dead and live timber in the East Fork of Mill Creek drainage and running into parts of the 2000 Hash Rock fire. The fire was first reported around noon on Saturday, originating near the intersection of the creek with Desolation Canyon. Since then, the fire has grown northeast along the drainage toward Whistler Point, paralleling Highway 26 which is about 2 miles southeast of the fire. The containment line along Nelson Butte down to Lake Chelan has been completed. The structure group has completed work within the Canoe Creek area. Eagle Creek Fire Video Update for Tuesday, September 12, 2017Good morning, I'm Rick Miller Operations Section Chief on the Eagle Creek. Give you a quick update on what happenedyesterday, what our actions were and what the fire did. Starting on the west end the spot fires that are out here on the farthest west end, they look really good, no smoke, no movement, just continued to monitor them. Coming up to the Bridal Veil area we did do a burnout operation tying it back into the highway 84 corridor yesterday. That went well. Very successful. Coming east along the Highway 84 corridor everything looked good. There was a couple areas that we identified that we put some handline in and around. And right around the Bonneville Dam we went in and put some hand line in on a piece that was still backing down towards the interstate to cut that off.So all of that was looking really good yesterday. Smoke: Chetco Bar smoke impacts are expected to be moderate to heavy today with moderating fire behavior. Winds from the northeast will again push smoke toward coastal areas including Gold Beach, Brookings and further south into northern California. Highway 101 may see reduced visibility in some areas. Periods of Unhealthy air may again be experienced in coastal towns by this afternoon /evening. Inland, in the Miller Complex and Chetco Bar fires' smoke will influence Cave Junction, Grants Pass, Medford and other Rogue Valley communities with moderate conditions this morning. This is expected to worsen through the day, possibly reaching periods of unhealthy air. This is due to smoke from several regional fires impacting this zone. RIDDLE, Ore. – An overnight infrared survey of the burned zone of the Horse Prairie Fire highlighted remaining hot spots that will be worked on today by hand crews aided by water bucket drops from helicopters as needed. The fire size remains unchanged at 16,436 acres. Containment has increased to 60 percent. A community meeting about the Horse Prairie Fire has been scheduled for tonight at 6 p.m. The meeting will be in the Riddle Community Hall, 123 Parkside Street in Riddle. The fire site is about 15 miles west of Canyonville in Douglas County. The fire was discovered August 26th on lands protected by the Douglas Forest Protective Association. Some 72 miles of fire hose was installed all around the fire’s edges. This week, where water is no longer needed, those hoses are being removed, cleaned and shipped out for use on other fires. Hot temperatures and lower humidity were present in the fire area yesterday. Fire lines passed the test that these conditions presented....

The fire developed five small columns; two in Canada, one in the middle of the fire within an unburned island in the Wolf Creek drainage, one on the northeast edge near Remmel Creek and one on the southern perimeter in the Monument Creek drainage. Fire behavior in the Monument Creek drainage consisted mainly of slow runs up the canyon walls without a significant push to the south. Smoke Forecast Outlook issued September 12, 2017 Smoke: The day will start with smoke settling in the valleys due to lack of air movement in the atmosphere. Air quality should improve later this evening as a storm front moves into the area. Through the remainder of the week a continual improvement in air quality is expected. Fire: The Jolly Mountain fire is at 30,720 acres an increase of 1,288 acres. Active backing fire behavior with torching and short uphill runs. The Norse Peak fire is at 52,162 acres an increase of 2,165 acres. Fire behavior was moderate with single tree torching, backing and creeping.The Uno Peak fire is at 7,336 an increase of 100 acres.Moderate fire behavior with single tree torching backing and creeping was observed. Other: One more day of inverted temperatures and smoke trapped below the inversion. With approaching frontal system, smoke should be begin to dissipate.

Summary: At approximately 8:00 p.m., skies cleared and burning fuel pockets west of Herman Creek created an impressive plume visible for miles along the Columbia Gorge. The plume was caused by active fire, as light winds funneled up the Herman Creek drainage. With darkness and cooling temperatures, winds were expected to blow the fire back down the drainage across already burned areas. Containment increased to 11%. The spot fires on the west end have been secured. Last night, fire managers attended community meetings in Troutdale and in Cascade Locks. Teams shared current operational information and updated the community on evacuations and road closures. Resource information on the Eagle Creek Fire was shared with both communities and information officers were on hand to answer questions.
