Chetco East Zone Daily Update, Josephine County, September 17, 2017 (Chetco Bar Fire Wildfire)
The Indigo Fire (784 Fire) was active again yesterday, expanding mostly to the west, reaching 578 acres. This fire is located midslope along the west side of the West Fork of Indigo Creek and has not crossed east into Josephine County. Fire crews are building containment lines by widening and removing brush along existing forest roads on both its east and west sides. Although there is a significant amount of heat and burning potential present, the Indigo Fire’s activity is expected to diminish due to cooler, wetter weather starting today. The Chetco Bar Fire is currently 189,562 acres (same official size as yesterday) and has reached 43% containment. The most significant portion of its East Zone activity was within the horseshoe bend of the Illinois River at the north end of the fire. Saturday, September 16, 2017 https://www.facebook.com/EagleCreekandIndianCreekFires2017/videos/124461938211322/Good morning, Rick Miller with your morning update. Per some requests I'm going to start on the east side and move to the west, so, starting out here on the Hood River Valley. The fire yesterday did do some growth mainly on the face of the Gorge out here. Our folks continue strengthening our indirect line if we need to burn it out to keep it from getting into Hood River. That was really successful. One thing that you'll see is that there is some pink up here on Mt. Defiance. That was yesterday when we had some clean air, we used a fixed wing to put some retardant around it to take sure that that infrastructure stays intact. So the fire continued to move, not greatly, but it did move all day yesterday and through the night over here on the east end, mainly in the Lindsey Creek area and it has come just a little further to the east. We did have a division and folks working...
Daily Update 9/16/2017 (Miller Complex Wildfire)
Miller Complex Fire Update Sept. 16, 2017 NW Incident Management Team (IMT) 9, Brian Goff, Incident Commander Current Situation: The Miller Complex has grown slightly and is at 59% containment overall. Increased fire activity in the vicinity of the Middle Fork of the Applegate River and below Whiskey Ridge, produced increased smoke over the surrounding area yesterday. This increased activity was the result of continued low fuel moistures and a dry, cool front which passed over the complex allowing the fire to burn more actively. Firefighters continue to work hard to meet objectives using the resources available with safety as the top priority. Today, crews are expecting normal temperatures with dry conditions and the potential for active fire behavior in some areas within the perimeter. This could result in increased smoke in the vicinity of the Abney Fire. Fire behavior remains consistent with weather and environmental conditions and is expected to creep, burn and in some...

Norse Peak Fire Update, Saturday, September 16, 2017 (Norse Peak Fire Wildfire)
Date Started: Aug. 11, 2017, Cause: Lightning; Acreage: 52,502 (Norse Peak), 3,739 (American), 56,241 (Total); Containment: 12%, Structures Damaged or Destroyed: None; Injuries: 3 (Minor); Total Personnel: 635; Fire Resources: 17 Crews, 24 Engines, 4 Helicopters, 2 Bulldozers, 10 water tenders.Fire Summary: The Norse Peak and American Fires main influence has been both fuel and topography dominated. Fire travels along the ground looking for fuels to ignite. One of these major fuel sources are the many dead and down trees. Other fuels consist of grass and shrubs. The standing trees are mixed, large, densely packed conifers. Single or group tree torching remains a threat due to the number of tree branches (ladder fuels) being heated and dried by the surface fire. Once the lower branches catch fire, the fire can climb up the tree to the upper story foliage jumping from tree to tree. The forecasted weather is for cooler temperatures and higher humidity which will slow the fire’s...
