Summit Trail Fire Morning Update, August 1 (Summit Trail Wildfire)
Inchelium, Wa. – Changing weather conditions may moderate fire behavior on the Summit Trail Fire today as potential rain and thunderstorms move into the fire area. Accompanying those storms will be erratic and gusty winds, which could bring gusts of up to 40 mph. Still, with temperatures expected to be 10-15 degrees cooler today than yesterday, fire crews are anticipating diminished fire activity in certain parts of the fire, which will allow them to continue their work to contain the fire as small as possible. Where direct line isn’t feasible, crews are scouting and establishing contingency lines to both the east and west of the fire, with both hand crews and heavy machinery working in cooperation to establish these lines.A majority of the fire’s growth yesterday, just under 2,000 acres, occurred to the northwest; overall containment remains at 12%.Structure and contingency groups near Twin Lakes are building containment lines and strengthening defensible space around...

Elbow Creek Fire Daily Update - August 1, 2021 (Elbow Creek Wildfire)
Wallowa, OR – The weather system expected to cross over the Elbow Creek Fire did arrive last night, but the predicted precipitation amounts did not. The fire area received 1/10 of an inch that was expected to receive up to ¾ inch. Some areas south of Wallowa received as much as one inch of rain. Cub Creek 2 Smoke Outlook for August 1, 2021 (Cub Creek 2 Fire Wildfire)
Fire Brisk winds from the NW yesterday led to growth on the Cedar Creek fire in the area of Thompson Ridge to Gobblers knob, current size is estimated at 45,719. The Cub Creek 2 fire is 54,858 acres and 24% contained. Intermittent rain, cooler temperatures, and higher humidity give the firefighters some good opportunities for progress fighting these fires although poor visibility may make for limited ability for aerial water drops.Smoke Air quality remains very impaired throughout the Methow Valley and smoke has now traveled south to affect Chelan, Wenatchee, and beyond. The Okanogan Valley is not getting a break from the smoke either as fires in Canada and on the Colville reservation mean smoke comes their way no matter which way the wind blows. Smoke accumulated throughout the Columbia Basin overnight and most monitors east of the Cascades are showing impaired air quality. Areas that have avoided smoke impacts thus far in the fire season are now experiencing impaired...
