Bootleg Fire Emergency Closure still in place for firefighter and public safety LAKEVIEW, Ore. – Area residents and visitors are reminded that there is an emergency closure order for the Bootleg Fire on the Fremont-Winema National Forest for both public and firefighter safety and travel or entry into the area is prohibited.   To provide space for wildfire suppression activities to happen safely, preserve access to firefighter escape routes if needed and to help prevent vehicle accidents, it is important to stay out of the area.   “Whether it is curiosity or getting ready for hunting season, we understand our area residents and visitors want to get back into the Forest,” said Forest Supervisor Barry Imler.  “We also understand and share the frustration of our communities on the east side of the Forest to not have access to loved local recreation sites during the late summer and fall for the second season in a row due to wildfire.”   The Bootleg Fire has created serious...

SmokeThick smoke settled throughout much of eastern Washington yesterday and especially in the Methow and Okanogan Valleys leading to widespread poor air quality. Today winds from the NW will develop in the afternoon moving smoke to the east and air quality conditions will improve for areas west of the fires during the day. Mazama, Pateros, and Chelan should benefit in particular. Warming temperatures will lift smoke so all should expect periods in the afternoon with somewhat better air quality. As there are any updates to fire progression or significant events, we will be releasing information on our Facebook and Inciweb page.  Today, the South Cascade Interagency Type 3 Team continues to mop-up and strengthen contingency lines. Containment is at 65%. Crews will remain vigilant as weather conditions change.  A south and southwest wind will be over the Willamette National Forest today, which may result in thunderstorms near the fire starting in the afternoon and lasting through this evening. There is a possibility of gusty winds more than 40 mph. The combination of this with low humidity will result in critical fire weather conditions for the area today. The threat of thunderstorms will end Tuesday when afternoon temperatures will warm to around ten degrees above normal. Overnight relative humidity will likely be lower over the next couple of days. There will be community meeting this Wednesday night at the Dayton Best Western Conf. Room @ 7:30 p.m. Lick Creek Fire: The Burn Area Emergency Response (BAER) Team has wrapped up their work on the Lick Creek Fire. Their assessment will be used for forecasting the preparation needs of the areas at greatest risk for runoff and flooding. This fire remains at 90% contained. Continued smoke will be visible as unburned pockets of vegetation inside the fire perimeter are consumed. Crews will continue to mop up pockets of heat interior and patrol until full containment is achieved. Green Ridge Fire: The fire continued backing slowly toward the Ladybug Campground holding within primary containment lines. The night shift focused on patrol and monitoring of the fire edge taking action where needed to accomplish containment.    Cedar Creek and Delancy Fires Morning Update August 2, 2021 Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest   Winthrop, WA — The Cedar Creek and Delancy Fires are burning on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest and public and private lands within Okanogan County. These fires are being managed by Great Basin Incident Management Team 1.   Fire Information Line: Cedar Creek and Delancy Fires: 509-557-0740 (8:00 am to 8:00 pm)   Fire Weather: Today marks the beginning of a drying trend. Humidity values will be 30 to 40 percent drier. In the morning winds will be light and terrain driven, becoming breezy in the afternoon, from the northwest.  Inchelium, Wa. – Firefighters are implementing a full suppression strategy on the Summit Trail and Chuweah Creek Fires. High humidity, a small amount of rain and relatively lower temperatures helped fire crews make substantial progress on the Summit Trail Fire yesterday. High humidities overnight allowed continued progress by night resources, particularly on the north and northwest edges.Crews are utilizing all opportunities to work directly along the fire’s edge. Mop up and reinforcement is underway to the west and on parts of the northern edge of the fire, while crews continue to deal with a few hot areas in the Beaver Dam Creek drainage.     News Release  August 2, 2021 Cusik, WA - The Molybdenite Fire is located about 9 miles Southeast of Ione, WA. It started on Saturday, July 31st and has burned approximately 60 acres of forested land.    Two Bull Dozers and eight hand crews continued to work on constructing containment line around the fire yesterday.   Two helicopters continued to assist fire crew efforts yesterday helping to slow fire spread and cool hot spots.   Safety concerns: Snags and overhead hazards. Including falling of small diameter cedars.   Road restrictions: Traffic will continue to be restricted to fire traffic only on all of FS 1936 / Paupuck Rd., FS 1935 / Harvey Creek just south of Hanlin Meadows to Sullivan Lake / Harvey Creek junction.   Today: Crews will continue to work on extending containment line around the fire and mopping up hot spots. Goal is to keep the fire east of Redman Creek, west of Mineral Creek, south of Stimson Private Ground and north of FS 1936.

Wallowa, OR – Reports from the fireline informed that substantial showers occurred throughout the fire. Firefighters used this rainfall to their advantage, continuing mop-up operations and holding the fire in place. The fire remains stable at 22,960 acres and an increase in containment to 78 percent.Today is the final operational shift for ODF’s Type 1 Incident Management Team 3, before the incoming Type 3 team assumes command tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. Today, the incoming team will shadow to help them better understand the current fire status and operations. Mop-up will continue across the entire fire, with the Elbow Creek Drainage, Grossman Creek, and Sickfoot Creek being prioritized. Contingency work along the 62 and 6222 Roads will continue. Dozers continue to straighten the ragged edge of the fire line on the east side for improved containment. If a spot fire were to start, or if the existing fire jumped the line, contingency lines are in place to stop its progression. Colville, WA: Yesterday: Alpha Division (north of Highway 20), having been turned back over to the local agency representatives for DNR, continued under a patrol status. No new hot spots of issues where discovered. Firefighters on Division Zulu (south side of Highway 20) continued with their mop up operations which included gridding the fire to look for hot spots and making sure everything is out and cooled off. Palm infrared tools are being used to point out any additional hot spots firefighters can’t see with the naked eye. Hose lines were laid on the north side of the fire. Containment was achieved for 85% of the 130 acres fire. All evacuation notices are lifted for the area. Today: Firefighters will continue to patrol Division Zulu and will continue securing the containment line on the south and north end.
