  Cub Creek 2 Fire Evening UpdateJuly 17, 2021 EveningOkanogan-Wenatchee National Forest  Fire Information Line – (541)-670-0812 (8:00 am to 8:00 pm) Winthrop, WA — Cub Creek 2 – Extended attack of the Cub Creek 2 Fire continued today with retardant drops from large air tankers, water scooping/dropping planes, helicopters with buckets and various ground forces of hand crews and engines.  The fire burned vigorously throughout the day on Washington Department of Natural Resource and Okanogan County Fire District 6 protected lands and also the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest.  The majority of the left flank of the fire is lined with dozer line from the heel of the fire to First Creek Road which ties into Forest Road 140 leading to Buck Lake.  The north flank remains unchecked at this time.  The northeast flank is backing down toward West Chewuch Road where it had crossed north of the junction of the East and West Chewuch Road to Heaton Homestead.  The fire is also...

  Cedar Creek and Delancy Fires Evening UpdateJuly 17, 2021Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest Fire Information Line - Cedar Creek and Delancy Fires: 509-557-0740 (8:00 am to 8:00 pm) Winthrop, WA — Cedar Creek and Delancy Fires are burning on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest in very steep and rocky terrain in heavy down fuels.Cedar Creek Fire is burning south and west of State Route 20. The fire is spreading very slowly in all directions. On the eastern perimeter, the fire has established itself on the eastern side of Cedar and Huckleberry Creeks confluence where a hotshot hand crew continues to slow forward progress using helicopter water drops. Today, the fire moved two-thirds of the way up the western slope of Sandy Butte. Firefighters have identified primary and contingency options for stopping spread of the eastern edge utilizing indirect line, natural features and re-established dozer line. Goddard Road Fire #GoddardRoadFire   7/17/2021 9pm Update   Fire activity has overall reduced throughout the fire, with some isolated areas still being fairly active.  Aerial support focused on higher activity areas on the southeast and northern flanks of the fire.  Minor spotting occurred during shifting winds on the northern flank, but were identified and lined.  Crews will focus on strengthening lines throughout the night and conduct burnout operation on indirect line, where unburned vegetation exists between the line and the fires edge.    Fire activity will continue through the night and torching of trees or active flames may be visible within the interior of the fire.   Crews have begun to map the fires edge in attempt to measure an accurate size of the fire.  The fire is over 300 acres in size.    Evacuation levels will be reevaluated tomorrow morning.   #WaWildfire

Cub Creek 2 Fire Update July 17, 2021 3:00 pm The Cub Creek 2 Fire started at the hairpin turn of Cub Creek Road and the Chewuch River. The fire burned actively into the late nighttime hours. Retardant from very large air tankers, water scooping/dropping planes, helicopters with buckets and various ground forces of hand crews and engines initially attacked the fire.  The left flank is lined from the toe of the fire to the First Creek Road which also ties into Forest Road 140 leading to Buck Lake Campground.  The north flank remains unchecked at this time.  The northeast flank is backing down into the West Chewuch Road; it had crossed north of the confluence of the East and West Chewuch Road to Heaton Homestead.  The fire has spotted east of Boulder Creek Road and is burning towards the north. CHUWEAH CREEK FIRE UPDATENORTHWEST INCIDENT MANAGEMENT TEAM 12Incident Commander: Bobby Shindelar July 17, 2021 8:00 AM Operations Today:  Firefighters continue to make good progress on the Chuweah Creek Fire, which was started by lightning on July 12 and is burning east of Nespelem. Yesterday, lower temperatures and a reduction in wind gave resources a chance to make progress on securing line around the fire.Crews will focus on the southeast corner above Cache Creek Rd. to find a direct route to attack the fire, as well as the northeast corner, working north along Keller Butte Ridge to halt fire progress. An aggressive approach will be taken today during both day and night shift in anticipation of an increase in temperatures and the potential for thunderstorms early next week.   With better mapping, the acreage on Incident 90 (Central Peak Fire) is estimated to be approximately 213 acres. Information Update - 8:00am (Goddard Road Fire Wildfire)

News Release  - July 17th, 2021 Rice, WA:  The Goddard Road fire was reported on July 16th, at approximately 1:43pm near Goddard Road and Orin-Rice Road.  The fire is about 1 mile northeast of Rice and 11 miles southeast of Kettle Falls. Fire behavior was very active during the initial growth of the fire, driven by topography and winds, quickly spreading the fire to the northeast.  Stevens County Fire District 12, along with mutual aid from other Stevens County Fire Districts responded to the fire, along with DNR, Federal Agencies, as well as Stevens County Sheriffs.  Fire bosses, helicopters, and retardant drops from tankers aided in slowing progression of the fire, allowing crews to begin establishing line.  A level 3 evacuation was issues for Goddard and sections of Pleasant Valley Road.  A level 2 evacuation is in effect outside of this area.   Fire behavior calmed into the evening and night.  Crews, working through the night, were able to establish indirect dozer line...

17 June Summit Fire Update (Summit Trail Wildfire)

INCHELIUM, WASHINGTON – The Summit Trail Fire started on July 12th 17 miles west of Inchelium after a lightning storm moved through the area. This morning California Interagency Incident Management Team 10 assumed command of the fire with Incident Commander Daren Dalrymple.  Yesterday crews made progress securing the heel end of the fire and started building containment line along both the south and east sides. The fire became more active in the afternoon, and a spot fire occurred ahead of the fire on the northwest side in a clear-cut area.  Today the control objectives are to keep the fire north of Bridge Creek Highway, east of Bridge Creek and BIA Road 1125, south of Lynx Creek, and west of Twin Lakes. The priority is on the east side of the fire to limit fire spread into the Twin Lakes area making sure completed line is in place.  California Team 10 is managing two additional fires near the Summit Trail fire.   Cedar Creek and Delancy Fire UpdateJuly 16, 2021 MorningOkanogan-Wenatchee National Forest   Fire Information Line: 509-557-0740 (8:00 am to 8:00 pm) Winthrop, WA — Cedar Creek and Delancy Fires are burning on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest in very steep and rocky terrain in heavy down fuels. Cedar Creek Fire is burning south and west of State Route 20. The strategy of containment is to use indirect tactics and construct containment lines in areas with high probability of success.  Heavy equipment is continuing to deepen the prepared containment line along State Route 20 and treat fuels from the roadway. Dozer containment line constructed from other previous fires at the toe of the slope will also be opened and prepared as indirect line.  Firefighters are scouting other indirect line opportunities in the Sandy Butte area along the ridge and near Wolf Creek.
