Summit Trail Fire Update for August 24 (Summit Trail Wildfire)
Inchelium, WA – The Summit Trail Fire was started by lightning on July 12 and is burning on the Colville Reservation approximately 17 miles west of Inchelium. Firefighters are using direct handline, dozer line, and defensive burning tactics to minimize fire spread. Steep, rugged terrain continues to challenge crews working across the fire area. Yesterday, cooler temperatures, higher humidity and scattered showers assisted firefighting. On the south and west portions of the fire, crews continued with mop up and patrolling containment lines around the fire perimeter. The overall tactics for the eastern perimeter focus on using heavy equipment to install direct fireline and engines to mop up. Yesterday, feller bunchers and dozers were used to clear Hall Creek Road, west of Tungsten Mountain and to build containment lines from Onion Ridge to Elbow Lake Road. Mack & Bulldog Mountain Fires Update 8-24 (Mack Mountain Wildfire)
Kettle Falls, WA – Firefighters made significant progress yesterday, taking advantage of cooler weather and reduced fire behavior. On the Mack Mountain Fire, crews completed the contingency line connecting Deadman Creek Road and Albion Hill Road. On both fires, the construction of direct containment lines along the fire’s edge is not possible due to the steep and inaccessible terrain. Firefighters are building indirect containment lines where terrain and access permit, usually at some distance from the fire’s edge. Additional work is underway to build contingency fire lines, which can be used if the fire escapes these primary direct and indirect lines. Today crews will continue to reinforce fire lines around both the Bulldog Mountain and Mack Mountain Fires. Firefighters will scout locations for direct line and areas to connect fire line to the 800 Road. Brush chipping projects on the 320 Road will continue. Work continues to the south of Mack Mountain Fire to connect a...

Summit Trail Fire Update for August 23 (Summit Trail Wildfire)
Inchelium, WA – The Summit Trail Fire was started by lightning on July 12 and is burning on the Colville Reservation approximately 17 miles west of Inchelium. Firefighters are using direct handline, dozer line, and defensive burning tactics to minimize fire spread. Yesterday, cool temperatures and high humidity resulted in minimal fire activity across the landscape, allowing firefighters to build containment lines directly on the fire’s edge. Crews used a “skidgine”, which is a hybridized logging skidder and fire engine, to improve containment lines west of South Seventeenmile Mountain, northeast to Grizzly Trail Road. Tree fallers improved roads by removing hazard trees along Hall Creek Road. Crews with heavy equipment were deployed to the northeast of Brush Mountain to shore up containment lines into Sugar Lake Road. On the...
